It came out to exactly 4 lbs 8 oz.
I got several more flights on it today and am seeing a few differences from it and my Top Cap.
The main one is its more stable in high alpha or 3D flying.
Example, Elevators (the maneuver) on the Top Cap are good but there is a little wing rocking on the way down. On the Sledge its very stable all the way to the ground. I landed out of a few today. It sets up with a high sink rate and at about 20 feet if you add a little throttle the sink rate slows as the nose picks up. Very little aileron is needed to keep it straight. As the sink rate slows and the nose picks up it will land out of it fairly easily or, you can add a little more power and transition into a harrier. Once its in a Harrier you can steer it around really well with the rudder. It just needs a little opposite aileron to keep it from rolling out.
Another difference is that the ailerons in general are a little less effective on the Sledge. I think they are a little smaller than the TC's. I have mine moving as far as they will go without the inside corner hitting the fuse at the extreme deflections.
Hovering the Sledge is easy. It will TR at a pretty good pace if its tilted on its back just slightly.
I have been trying to do High Alpha rolls with my 29% Edge since I started flying it a month or so ago. They never seem to look right. The Sledge does them easily. (And they look correct.)
So far I really like this plane. I will post more when I fly it some more.

Great reports Wayne, thanks.
Almost done with mine - just waiting on gear.
Where did you put the CG? Also did you put any right thrust in?
Thanks, can't wait to get mine in the air...

Bob,
My balance came out just behing the secondary spar. Maybe 1/4 inch or so behind it. Feels good right there. It may move it back a little when I put the CF gear on it. Probably not enough to hurt or help it.
I didnt use any right thrust. It could probably use a little but I wanted the motor mounting flanges to sit flat on the beams.
I should have my CF gear and my graphics early this week. I'll post a new pic when they are on.

You just bought yourself a week delay on Top Cap progress.
At this rate you'll be flying an e-powered parachute at the fly-in.
My CF gear showed up today also. Of course, I am out of town till Wednesday.

rpsmithii,
I was noticing in your Sledge picture. I would could out some wholes in the ribs. You could save an oz or 2.
Anyway, somebody needs to post some more video of this plane flying. So I can convince my self I need another plane.
I love funflys. but I am getting enticed by 1/4 and bigger.

Agree - and I thought about it. I did elminate some sheeting across the entire wing to secure the servo and looks like to act as a spar, instead I built a cage for the servos. I also have done some nipping tucking here and there to save where I can.
Hope to have it in the air this weekend. I fly with some pretty accomllished flyers so they will really put it through it's paces. Thus, I'll post a flight report and video.
I, for one, am interested to see if building this plane has any advantage over buying say a CG Extreeme 3d which is what I'm expecting/hoping becuase I'll have a lot more in this plane than one of the ARF's time and cost wise.
Kit is consistent with what I've read about Morris kits.
Got a bunch of broken triangle stock. They sent me the wrong servo from what I ordered. The wood was singed from laser cutting - like a blowtorch hit it. And some of the stock isn't shaped as per instuctions. Some pieces were broken. They only sent me one pull-pull harware kit etc.
The first call to them about the trailing edge stock was replied with "So?"
I'm on 2 calls and 2 e-mails to try to get the other issues resolved.
I really hope this thing flys better then any thing out there

Welcome to Morris Kits...
When I ordered my Knife I was shorted wood, pull pull stuff, decals and more... When I called them they said, "we were out at the time." No we will send it when we have the stuff or sorry for the goof or anything. I ended up spending about another $12-20 buying the stuff they didn't put in the kit. It was my first kit from Morris and quite possibly my last even though their aircraft have a great reputation...

That's odd
I have currently three Morris kits. One TopCap, and two Sledge 540's (only one of the Sledge 540's is mine, the other belongs to a friend who want's it built for them). All of these kits were bought within one week of each other.
I was missing the hardwood for the motormounts from the TopCap kit. One call and they sent a replacement out. They also called me back about 30 minutes later and asked if I got the hatchcovers for the Sledge kits. They said that some of the kits were accidentally shipped without the hatchcovers. Both of the Sledge kits I have, had the hatchcovers.
So far, I've gotten good service.

No. My receiver is in the front part of the wing and my battery is in the rear part.
I guess my CG will move a little bit farther aft after I get the CF gear put on it tomorrow.
