while we wait for a new expansion pack that hopefully will have the blade400 id like to edit one of the existing helis...most probably the voyager 50 electric... to closely mimic the blade 400. is there anyone who has done this? will the expansion pack that came out for the pre 1.1version that included a trex450 work with the new version? maybe i could go that route also? $13.00 for one heli from the pack...not exactly a bargain but.....you do what you have to do.

Hey leadtongue,
I bought the hanger pack after upgrading to 1.1. I actually deleted and reinstalled the the whole thing. While I'm not sure if that is an actual requirement, it worked well for me and now I'm up and running. I've been told that realistically the Trex 450 flies very similar to the B400, which I hope is the case since I have a B400 and am practicing on the Trex on FSOne. I have been watching the forums for a while and Scott is a wealth of knowledge. The mods below are a combo of Scott and Kraig's input. Using these, the Trex flies much better and more realistic than the heli after fresh install. And it does fly very similar to the B400.
Thanks Scott and Kraig, you guys are awesome.
Also, the head setup on the B400 (can't speak for any other helis, since I don't have experience with them) is VERY important. I found out the smuck who set mine up didn't do it right, changed it yesterday morning, what a difference, much more stable. It was so off, even one of the flybar paddles had a -3deg angle, no wonder it wasn't flying very well.
• Under Aerodynamics I made the changes to Rotation Damping: Roll: 0.100, Pitch: 0.100, Yaw: 0.100
• Under Main Roter I made changes to Blade Rotational Inertia to 0.0028
• Mass: empty weight 1.8
• Aerodynamics: aerodynamics reference area .2
• Tail Rotor: Solidity: .25
• Tail Rotor: Overshoot time constant: .002

Hi Scott and JS,
I think onboard video is a problem if you have it, from when I was researching which sim to get. I remember reading something about how CPU's that share memory for video processing don't play too nicely with high memory users like flight sims. That said, it's funny that your other ones don't have issues with your setup. I have a laptop that I run FS One on that has a switch to let me choose between the GeForce 7400 card and an oboard video (I think that's what it's for) so I'll try to switch back & forth to see if it makes a difference on that machine at least.

Sorry I can't relate that back to how more responsive you want the FSone model to be. Also I don't own a BCX so I can only help you in regards to the FSOne model. We re talking about the counter rotating heli, right? There a few adjustments you can make to modify the model, but it'll never be as agile as say the Blade CP Pro model. Just give me an idea how much more agility your looking for in the model and I'll try to explain the fields you can try to change.

Okay Turok007,
After way too many permutations, I've come up with three changes that should make the CX more liveley.
First you'll have to make a copy of the CX, name it anything you'd like, click on the copied CX and edit:
1. go to the aerodynamics tab and in the Aerodynamics Ref Area (sq. ft) change the unit of measure from 5 to 1
2. go to the main rotor tab and change the Blade Solidity from .067355 to .09
3. go to the coax rotor tab and change the Blade solidity from .067355 to .09 (same change as the main rotor)
Go fly and it should be nimbler... but it is limited.
Good luck
Scott

That looks really nice.
I tried that a little a year ago. I'm not artistic though. I removed the forward swooping swirls from the wings of the ShowTime so that everything was sweeping back only. And I changed the Skylane scheme to look more like the 40 size Great Planes ARF of the Skylane.
To do a good job takes some skill and proper software, but the paint schemes are otherwise easily accessable in FSOne.

Yeah, I had thought about doing it for a while I but never took the time to figure it out. Now that I have I want to do some nice ones. I just slapped this one together last night quick. I didn't have any of my regular brushes loaded in Gimp so I couldn't do any thing fancy.

Just find the .tga file in the graphics folder and edit it with a program that will edit .tga files. Like Gimp. I would assume Photoshop would do it also but I don't know, never used it. Resave it as a .tga

To do my very simple paint scheme edits, I just used Windows Paint and used a free utility called "Image Magik" (yes spelled with a "k" ) to convert between BMP and TGA formats. It's a collection of command line programs (for example: "convert image.bmp *.tga" and vise versa).

Hi Katman,
I think I saw one of your quick works of art on the RCG post. Can you tell me what brushes you use and where you found the patterns that you used? It looked pretty nice. Regarding the trading of setup information for aircraft, the answer to your question is yes it can be readily shared. The sharing of setup and tweaks for the Rex-450 heli is an example. There's probably a setup file for each aircraft that be copied across just like the images.
Thanks,
Dave

There is no repository, but you can read up on how to modify an existing design, resize it, or change some other characteristic...
http://www.inertiasoft.com/fsonefaq/index.html
You'll have to read through the FAQ's to find info about resizing. Then just a few posts ago there was a discussion about repainting planes/heli's.

Well it is unfortunate, but I can only assume that the process is complicated getting the physics correct, but I really have no idea.
About the only thing you can do is take an existing model, get it close to the correct size and get the power equipment dialied in. Lastly repaint it to look like what you want. It is far from ideal.
It would make sense from a marketing perspective to put out the Horizon models in the sim, but I'm guessing there's some snag preventing them from doing this.

what they need to do is tell everyone. that more add on discs are on there way or tell us the sim is dead in the water so we can move on to something else. instead of flogging a dead horse.
