Congrats on the successful flights Helijet!

On a side note, is there any sound difference when you bypass???

My Flash should be in the states next week! Can't wait to get it in the bench. Now which engine, a 140 or a 170......decisions decisions....

I'm in the same shoes mths back, with I'm look at the 140rx
I found out I top abit more I can have a 180rx.

throttle control is a must.

Yes, the plane is significantly quieter with a by-pass, even just using the upper half only quietens it down.

I was surprised by how loud the P100 is - especially from behind while taxing but once in the air, the airframe combination with full bypass is quiet. I like the combination - well balanced.

Unless you're planning on breaking Shui's speed record a 140 will be plenty
I spent the weekend watching three UF being flown hard, P80SE, P120SE and P160SX and the P80 powered one even did a take off with brakes on.
Wouldn't hesitate to go with any motor in that range when bypassed. I like the fuel economy of my 160 though!

I was impressed with the P80 performance, it was faster than I thought it would be. I was going to put a Merlin 140 in mine but after seeing that I'm going to try it with my M100 out of the Bobcat first and when I get bored go for the 140

In regards to a 180RX, it is same size, and weight as a 140. Costs a little more, and gives more head room for take off and verical. I know of two who are planning this when the engines become aviailable. Short supply. Possibly in a few weeks. 180 with throttle control, vs Full throttle from take off to downwind for landing. Have the resources, its a no brainer. Have options when you want them. Flight times really shouldn't be affected if the throttle is mangaged to the same flight pattern as with a 100RX.

I tell you I am using one in my ultra lightning...no doubt it will fit and fly perfect..its he fuel econemy...I bet 4 or 5 minutes will be it...my lightning is almost empty at 8 minutes... I guess you can lower the thrust down to 30 lbs or so ...

basimpsn,

Could you send me the full resolution pics of your Flash? I have the Blue Angels coming but can't find any good hi-res pics!

Thanks!

Normally I am a big fan of overkill when it comes to more power, but honestly you aren't really gaining much by installing a 160 size or bigger turbine into the Flash. Unless you want to spend an extra $2000.

With the K140 mine will take off in 250-300' at 1/2 throttle and then will accelerate vertically out of site from slow flight. A friend has one with a P160sx in it and it is no faster on the straight and level nor acceleration.

I am most likely going to do the K140 over the 170. I have been running Simjet 3000's and LOVE THEM. Best spool time I have seen. Now my friend has installed a K140 on a Boomerang and I love the kero start. The spool is slower but I think I am going to like it due to simplicity. I will fly it over the next couple weeks and see what I think.

The factory set acceleration rate is a little slow, you can fine tune that and set to half expo and it will spool up pretty good.

Yeah I will mess with it. Is the ECU menu similar to the Gaspar? Or is it totally it's own animal like JetCat?

Not familiar with the Gaspar units, I believe they are Xicoy. I know Jet Centreal uses the dame fadec, very easy to use.

Ok perfect. That the same fadec that my Simjet uses. I like the interface on this a lot. The JetCat confuses me. :-)

On my last flight from start up to shut down with an 8 minute flight ( timed from takeoff to touch down ) the P100 used 2.14 litres about 72 oz ( .47 gallon )

i flew mine with 120sx.. to me was perfect..8 minute flights plenty of full throttle and plenty for landing.. i wouldnt put anything bigger then a 140 myself...though if someone wants to go 180 then it will be interesting ....
