What do you guys think about RX set up? This is what my options seem to be:

I want to run crow so ideally this is what I would want:
Ch 1 - Throttle
2 - L - Elevator (Or combine L/R Elevator on one channel and mix Rudder and NWS)
4 - R - Elevator
5 - L - Aileron
6 - R - Aileron
7 - L - Flap
8 - R - Flap
9 - Rudder / Nosewheel steering
10 - Gear
11 - Brakes
12 - Smoke

In order to do this I would need a 12 CH Rx. Here are the options for that:

1. Powerbox Royal Spektrum 12K DSMX - $850 (STUPIDLY Expensive)
2. AR12200 12 Channel DSMX Cockpit - $639
3. R1222X 12-Channel DSMX Receiver + 2 Sahara Regulators + Switch - $430

Or I can use a 9 Ch RX with a Powerbox

Ch 1 -Thottle
2 - L/R Elevator
3 - L - Aileron
4 - R - Aileron
5 - Rudder / Nosewheel Steering
6 - L/R Flap
7 - Gear
8 - Brakes
9 - Smoke

In order to do this these are my options:

AR9210 9CH DSMX PowerSafe Evolution + Matchbox Twin Pack - $510 ( Minus Matchboxes $400)
R922X 9-Channel DSMX + Powerbox Competition 40/24 = $570 I like this one because it allows servo matching for the Elevators and flaps eliminating Matchboxes.
R922X 9-Channel DSMX + 2 Sahara Regulators + Matchbox Twinpack = $420

I like the AR12200 12 Channel DSMX Cockpit - $639 because of it's simplicity. All in one package and reduction in wires.

What do you guys think?

Because I use 7955's I just programmed them all and y'd the elevators and flaps. I used the behotc brake/gear valve that came with the gear which works good and keeps things simple. I have my steering on a seperate channel so I can trim the steering independant of the rudder. still stayed under 10 channels.

That would allow me to use:
R922X 9-Channel DSMX + 2 Sahara Regulators + Switch = $350

Or

AR9210 9CH DSMX PowerSafe Evolution = $400

The 9210 would be the least amount of wiring.

That's pretty reasonable. Any reason to want a 4 x remote antenna setup over the 3? This is my first venture into 2.4 with composite.

IFlyEm35,

This is what I would do (and I am doing...)

Using a 1221 RX, SmartFly EQ10, and 2 A123 batteries you can do the following:

Ch 1: Throttle
Ch 2: Right Aileron
Ch 3: Right Elevator
Ch 4: Rudder
Ch 5: Gear
Ch 6 (aux 1): FLaps. R flap on channel A, L Flap on channel B
Ch 7 (aux2): Left Aileron
Ch 8 (aux3): Brakes
Ch 9 (aux4): Nose Wheel Steering
Ch 10 (aux5): Left Elevator
Ch 11 (aux6): Smoke
Ch 12 (aux7): Gyro gain

Using the EQ10 you can do all of this easily and with flaps you can reverse a sub-channel within a channel. You can also set up end points independantly for each servo within a channel. No need for regulators or match boxes. Honestly, if you are not using a EQ10, you are making more work for yourself.

We have well over 1000 flights on the exact set-up and have had ZERO issues.

The PowerBox Sensor switch handles that.

Actually i did have to do some service work on that model at the weekend, the underside was just as neat and everything was easy to access after the removal of just 6 screws. So i guess Sverrir has the best of both worlds. I can't stand a model that has everything bear on top of the tray as it' always looks a mess, plus any fuel splillage is on top of everything making it difficult to clean properly.

Is it better to run smoke in the wing thank and fuel in the saddle tanks? Vice versa? Doesn't matter?

Suppose it's down to personal preference, but the logic is that the wing tank connection is broken every time the model is disassembled with the potential for air leaks whereas the saddle tanks are never disturbed. I have my timer set for 7.5 mins from wheels up to down and can land with anything from 3rd full fuz tank to just 1 go-around left depending on throttle use. I use a 140 and from what I have seen it pushes the UF around as fast as most 160's

Comp arf sells conformal saddle tanks for the UF. I run the main and conformals for fuel and the wing tank for smoke.

Finally test flew my Ultra Flash 2 weeks ago, very happy with the aircraft and its performace, got total of 4 flights so far . Ultra Flash has Jetcat P80se, JR 8411 all around. The aircraft flies plenty fast with P80se, had no issues pulling out of sight verticals!!!
Landing was very predictable.
Here are some pictures!!
