UPDATE I have finished installing all of the radio and accessories for the turbine and I will have to add weight to the nose to make it balance. I decided to extend the front of the fuse 3.5" to allow the batteries to be more forward to balance. I believe this is because I added 2 servos IN the horizontal stab for the elevator, 2 more servos in the booms for the rudders and 2 flaps between the fuse sides and the booms in lieu of the underfuselage air brake. I hate to add lead to any AC and it is easy to add fuse length to this design. SO if anyone is building one of these definetly extend the fuse from the beginning to aid in balance. I will post some pics soon of the redone version!

MAN will soon publish an article of the Eagle VII, and probably publish updated plans too. So I'm waiting a bit

Geh,
I have the plans, the wood, and the engine. Just waiting on my ecu to come and trying to finish up some woodworking projects for everyone else. Once that's done I'm starting on it. What are you using servo wise? Also, did you glass it, or is that just monokote covering? I'm saving some cash for the servos and need some suggestions. I'm looking forward to building this beauty.

It is just monokote over a well sanded structure. I built the plane all in 1 piece and it is very strong. The servos I used are: 2 JR digital wing servos buried in the horizontal stab for the elevator, 2 Futaba digital wing servos for the ailerons and 2 JR9411sa servos for the rudders. For the rest, I used futaba s3001 and s3004 for the air controls for the gear and flaps ( these can be any small servo). The hinges are heavy duty CA ones and I used twice as many of them for each serface as in a normal plane. I also sealed all of the hinge lines with either blenderm tape or clear monokote. The flap design you see in the pictures in my innovation and I don't know how they will work yet. If they cause too much of a pitch change then I will leave them closed and install the speedbrake system as per the plans but enlarge it as the construction article says. I had problems balancing the plane due to the extra weight in the aft ( 4 extra servos+ flap install) and I added a 3.5" extention to the front of the fuse just forward of the canopy to allow battery placement farther forward, even with this I have 2 oz of lead ( actually a 2 oz fishing weight) forming the nosecone! The plane overall is not too heavy though

I had my first flight today... AWSOME FLYER... fast and very groovy.. only had to do minimal trimming. For the next flight I will reduce aileron throw and increase elevator. otherwise a very impressing plane in the air, flies like it is on RAILS!!!!!

Geh3

Congrats on your successful maiden flight !
Did you get to deploy your design of flaps, how did they work ?

Yes the flaps worked OK but I didn't have a lot of elevator control at landing speed to make the nice kind of landing flair that I like , for one reason, I forgot to flip the switch to get elev high rates, on the next flight I will do that, if that doesn't work, then I will add 0.250" or 0.300" to the trailing edge of the elevator to get a bit more reaction there. The thing is quite fast and very groovy, the ailerons are very effective, almost too much, you can do very fast rolls. Here again, for my next flight I will reduce the rate a bit and increase the - expo on these.

UPDATE you can now get a kit version of the EAGLE 5 from PRECISION CUT KITS, it's now listed as available. This can easily be converted to the newer long nose version + the long nose + canards.
Otherwise as is it , it flys GREAT

Have you flown/landed it with the flaps down and High-rate elevator yet?

flown it with flaps down but not with the elevator mods yet. I increased the width of the elevator by 0.30" and added some more to high rates, need some good weather to try this

I flew it three times today, The elevator mod and also moving the CG back 1/16" really made this plane perfect to land. It now is easy to get a nice langing flair with the nose high and it easily lands on the main wheels. I will have a video posting showing this soon. The next thing I need to do is increase the rudder throw a bit so I can get better knife edge... GREAT PLANE.. it is awsome to see it take off and go totally vertical

YEs it is a lot of fun to fly, it looks like some sort of "secret weapon" as it zooms overhead. I have no idea actually how fast it goes, someday I will have this checked by a fellow modeler who has a precision radar gun + he can also record the sound as the model passed by and then plug this into a software program that calculates speed by doppler shift.
The WREN turbine in this plane operates flawlessly and I would certainly recommend it to anyon ein th emarket for smaller turbines.

Hey It 's sleek as hell, no doubt this thing must be very fast ! It sure looks like it has plenty of power.
Control surfaces looks pretty responsive and crisp.
Did you use the airbrake during these landings ?

Yes I put the flaps down right after I lower the landing gear usually on the downwind leg, the do slow the thing down nicely and with a slightly larger elevator, it flares for landing nicely. It is a fun plane, someday I will have the speed checked by someone with a radar gun or by doppler sound shift... there are guys in my club who do that

Geh3,
you mentioned earlier about extending the elevator. Did you actually do it? If so how much did you add. By the way nice vids of your Eagle.

Yes I extended the elevator about .300" or so and I increased the throw on high rates.SO now when I fly, I take off on high rates, switch to low for flying, then go back to high for landing. I also moved the CG back about 1/16 to 1/8". This now allows the plane to land with a nice flair and slower that it did on the first flight. This plane is a lot of fun and always draws a crowd. I don't know what it's actual top speed it but it BOOKS! and it will go straight up with a full fuel load. The plane is quite stable.. and I also have a better video of it on YOUTUBE AND you can get a laser cut kit of it from PRECISION CUT KITS

Here is the best video link that shows what the plane can do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wqa8NJ6v68c
