Yeah and Colt is better than Bushmaster, RIGHT. Im sick of this crap. Every time someone comes to market with anything in this jet forum someone crys foul. Engines, planes, before its over they will be crying foul on brakes " or have they already done that". If you want it buy it, if you dont then dont. "plane" and simple.

Anyways, back to the subject of the hawk with a turbine and not who made or copied it. SNJ, are you almost done with the plane. Post some pics with the turbine installed. And let us know how it flies with the JJ 1400.

I have one of the AMD/KMP Hawks also. I like it. It is what it is and worth the $450 i paid for it.
I am repainting it , so i glassed the wing and added 4" carbon fiber strip around the center of the wing.
The power plant I am installing is a RAM 500, which i received today.
I cant wait to finish it

Wow, I did not know my comments had started a chain reaction.
My idea is simple. If AMD is making the Hawk, then they should not say "designed by Larry Wolfe" or "Jet Hangar Hobbies" all over the stickers as shown on SJN's picture and not pay the designer for using his name. Maybe they are the OEM, but the designer's name should be the protected right. It's like buying knock-off CDs or designer clothes, fashions in Asia. They all sound the same and the quality are the same, like my secretary's LV purses from Asia. Ask the designer of the Hawk and see if they were paid for royality for using their name.
I just hope that we all buy from the original designer. The OEM company can sell planes at lower price because they do'nt pay design and development cost. I just want to address the significance of buying the reall stuff.

I bought mine on RCU from a guy selling stuff for his brother in IRAQ.
I had bought this plane before i knew about the History of the Hawk problem. The only reason was the price the looks and the fact that is was an ARF. Kind of a fast way back into turbines.

Ok, so it doesn't seem like I'm a poser, I'm posting some pics too. BTW the KMP comes with retracts for $599 and I can guarantee that there quality is "better" than the original JHH kit, the others I cannot vouch for, if there are a total of 4 kits manufactures out there I would be kind of leary of buying the cheapest one on the market.
Anywayz I also repainted mine to a T-45 scheme (my brother is in the Marines), and its not totally finished yet, still have some more painting left to do, but I do have my turbine mounted, its the FTE-500 (same as ram), however I have not mounted the solenoids, ecu, or fuel pump. The FTE is bigger than the wren, I'm just a little worried about fuel tank space, but I think I can make it happen. Right now mine is at 11.5 lbs with the turbine, all servo's, batteries, and reciever so I'm hoping to end up at around 12.5lbs. Besides the 6 in wide Carbon Fiber I also upgraded all the pushrods to 4-40 rods. Here's a couple of quick snaps that I just took.

Hey Russ,
Why don't you and Justin mosey over to the Corvette Plant around shift change time and suggest how much better we would all be if 'Vettes were copied and produced in China by Wuling or Changan and sold at 1/2 price.................I'm sure your liberal international trade views would make quite the "splash"!

Looks good mugenkidd.
Do you have alot of downthrust from the engine when mounted on top of the engine mount ?
Looking into the rear end of mine you can see the engine mounts are far from centered in the DF thrust tube.
Ive been looking at some Turbax 45 pics, and it looks like the mounting flanges on the DF unit are not centered in the 9 o-clock, and 3 o clock position. ??
Im going to shim the mount up on the lower side of the mounts in my jet, and install the engine on that.

SJN, the weird thing is that our planes have different mounting systems, the DF mount on mine and the JHH one I had is right behind the intake ducting, or right in the "front" part of the hatch area, and the mounts that I have my turbine mounted on I installed them myself in the fusalage they are part of the turbine installation kit from JHH. Yours appears to be factory ready for a turbine! From what I recall it was fairly centered with the fuse, but I would be more concerned with the centering on the turbine thrust tube, mine is just about perfectly centered with the turbine tube. I would say test fit everything first including the turbine thrust tube before shimming just to see. Please keep us posted and I'll do the same.

Thanks Michael
But just look at the first pic....there is no way that the turbine will be centered if I install it as it is
But the angle is all right. If i lay a carbon rod on the engine mount passing through the duct, it lies parallel.
But the engine will have to be lowered.

BTW if you are only a satisfied wren customer. then fly your engine and be happy. No one is asking you to buy anything or fly anything else.

Gees....I take a couple of days off and find three pages on a thread I want to follow (I have one of JHH's Hawks).
One thing that no one seems to ask is why JHH discontinued importing the Hawk.
It's documented that things were going out the back door.....but how about the other issues? I have seen early editions, and flown Larry's original prototype with a .48 (NICE!!)...I've seen mine, and some even later versions, and when you look at the rear end you can see the differences. Now if the difference is visible to the eye, hopefully the hardware (stab joiner/pivot) was changed too....gee I like slop (on som of the later ones I've seen...) Would I sell one with my name on it with a known problem?....(Not in our land of lawyers!)
Manufacturers change things all the time to maximise production benefits....but not all the changes are good (remember the *brand-deleted* pickup's that burst into flames?
I've seen stuff in these three pages talking about how to get the best deal.....sure, and I've got some illegal copies of CD'c and DVD'd made in Asian countries that I'll pretend to sell you, and that the Fed's would like to catch *us* selling do to their illegal nature.
My two cents: If you've got an original JHH, or a copy, and you like it and it flys well.....go for it! Just remember that the intellectual material could have just as easily been yours. Are you going to support someone stealing your name/reputation? Would you knowingly support/sell a product that has factory changed issues imparting possible contol issues........ask your local surgeon about that one!
My last two cents....Why do several of the posters feel it necessary to slam/bash/be derogatory ...Please grow Up! We all want information, not diatribes!

Got the tail glued together....
I opted to install the elevator servo further to the rear for better acces if I have to get to it.
The stock location was behind the former in an upright position.....witch I did not like. Now it is more direct.
I also installed the rudder servo directly into the stabilizer. The plans call for a torque tube system. I wanted a more direct link here too, without any slop.
The wings are ready for some glass, or carbon fiber. I will install a single servo til actuate the flaps.

Hey SJN
Show us pics of how you installed the rudder servo. I like the mods you used on the rear servo and will do the same to mine.
I have notice a diff from some wing pics and my KMP hawk wing. The flap servo's are in pockets under the wing like the alieron servo's.
Also I am going to fiber glass my wing onto the fuse.

Chris, I cant realy take any better pics of the rudder servo.
I have "glued" it in with some RTV. It is sandwiched in the fin, and will go nowhere. I have had great succes with this method on other models.
Its located right above the elevator servo.
If you look closely on pic number 4, you can see the bottom of the rudder servo....
Any pics of yours ?
