Is there any problems related to running the Jetcat P120 with a single channel as opposed to using the AUX channel setup?
Are there any things I must know before do teach to my radio? When I read about teach RC in the manual it says to place AUX channel in run or shutdown position etc., but if you aren't running the AUX channel how do you set it up?
The reason I'm trying to do this, is because I'm using a Futaba 9C radio and I'm running out of channels. Rudder, elevator, aileron, flaps, throttle, speed brake, retracts, brakes. I'm using two channels for stabs, so I need to free up another channel.
Setting up the failsafe is going to be fun too, but thats another post I guess.
Would it it be simpler to just buy a JR 10X and set it up the normal way?
Thanks Dan

Dan,
I have a P60 with ECU ver 5.0 on single channel ops without a problem. I simply follow the instructions in the manual. Be sure to set your endpoints in the throttle channel to "75" on each side first. I use the switch on the TX face that is the inner one from the left side (not at home so I check what letter it is).

Dan, I've done single channel and dual channel. The only advantage I saw with dual channel is that on dual channel shut down, the engine goes to 55K Rpm for a few seconds before it turns off bringing additional cooling air into the engine before shutdown.
You can do that with your left thumb on the throttle stick and save a channel.
There are some toys to play with on dual channel with smoke, but not at all neccessary.

Dan,
I believe if you just disconnect the AUX channel the Ecu will automatically change back to single channel mode. I have a 9C and run in single channel mode, it works fine. If it doesn't automatically switch back you can press the "Limits" key and scroll until you see "AUX-channel", set this to "Not use" and it will be in single channel mode. Then the only difference is you will have to raise the throttle slightly for a few seconds before lowering the trim to shut the motor off. This will simulate the auto shut down sequence and allow the motor to cool before shut down.

I am using in the Roo a futaba 7 channel rx and using the jetcat single channel operation I
can have all the features needed in this plane. I even have a mix in the 3-position switch to shut down the turbine, like the 2 channel operation. You also have the auto-cooling feature as cited above ny Kfalcon. this is a nice way to go if you want to use a 7 channel receiver or if you want to add a smoke system using a 8 channel Rx.

As stated above, just unplug the aux lead and relearn the rc and you will be fine. Make sure to set your failsafe up prior to learning the rc. With the 9c the failsafe setup is different than with the jr series of radios. It is actually different for each one of the futaba radios in thier line up. Give us a call and we will walk you through the failsafe setup.

I used single channel ops on my P-120. I used the GSU to determine what throttle setting gives me approx 55k rpm for cool down. (it turned out to be four clicks up from idle on my 10X). When I'm read to shut down, I just push the throttle up four clicks from idle and wait about five seconds, then shut down the engine.
I recently set up a 9C on a P-80 for a friend and we had to reverse the throttle channel in the radio so the pulse width would go down with low throttle. After that, the fail safe set up was virtually identical to the 10X.

I have a 4.9 ECU with the blue heat shrink wrap over it.
I think when it comes to setting all this up properly, I'll call John Redman and learn how to do it right.
The manual shows you how to do teach RC for duel channel ops, but does not say if it is a different procedure for the single channel one.
Thanks Dan

Only downside on the 9c single channel ops is that the trottle trim is digital, so if you must do an emergency shutdown you have to wait for it to beep down. The 10X of course has manual trim on throttle. Just my 2 cents.

The best you can do on the 9C is change the amount of trim for each click. At the max setting, you can move through the full range of thottle trim in just six clicks.

I use the throttle cut option on my futaba and set it to snap roll switch, pull this switch when main throttle stick is at idle and turbine cuts straight away no fiddling for trims and waitng for trim to come down.
