Hi Amir, this is the setup I got on mine.
Elevator: 60mm / 40% expo
Aileron: 30mm / 30% expo
Flap: 65mm (MAX) / No elevator mixing
Rudder: Get as much as posible without bending the surfaces to have good knife edge flying.

Adil,
Is the smaller F-4 going to make an appearance at Florida Jets?

Not sure on that. I am not planning on bringing the one that I have as it is rough and not painted etc. Anton may bring up some stuff so maybe

Hi Guys,
Michel: I am assuming your Throw numbers are total travel (end to end)????
I noticed my flaps were moving when i pull on them ..so I just checked and noticed that my phenolic horns are cracked. I did something maybe I shouldnt have done and decided to use ball links since I wanted to use JR 1.5" aluminum servo arms. SO anyway right now I have to replace the phenolics. I am wondering maybe its a good idea I should double them up like in the sport jets. I was wondering if anyone has noticed unusual wear or other problems with their phenolics and you think I should definitely double up the phenolics or its totall unnecessary?
Thanks guys,
SM PHANTOM RULLLLLES....

Hi Jason, the throws are from neutral, meaning elevator is 60mm from neutral to up.
Regarding your horns I just sent you an email, let me know if you get it.

Hi everyone,
Regarding the flap movement issue, I did replace my control horn with one cutout of .125 CF plate and its rigid as can be. However it didnt fix the problem. When I investigated more, I realized that the movement has nothing to do with the servo arm or servo issue, It is actually the hinge surface at the hinge line. The hinge line is on the servo side, opposite of the aileron which is away from the servo side it can result in hinge line surface to flex. I can easily move my flaps as far as 1 inch up and down (total) with exerting about 4-5 lbs of force.
I have not maiden the jet yet and wanna make sure I dont crash it. IF anybody else has seen this issue on their SM F4, could you please let me know if its common and could it cause a problem. I have attached some photos so you can see the hinge line on the flap. Maybe Anton or Li can comment on this. If there is a way to reinforce the hinge line, can you make some suggestions if its necessary.
BTW, on the throws, I am only getting about 45mm total travel on the elevator. Its not possible to 60mm each direction. plate intereference. (which is about 13 degrees up and down)
Thanks
Jason

Here is the response I recieved from Mr. Li Kai which demonstrates the solution for this issue if any one you having this problem. I thought its an elegant solution and I should post it for all the SM F4 pilots to see. Thanks againg for speedy support from Skymaster crew, and Mr. Li kai.
I will make the modification and will update you guys as to the performance improvement.

Hi Jason, I recently built a BVM King Cat and the diagram as you posted is exactly what BVM has you do on the elevator of the King Cat. Seems to work well and I have not had any problems. Thanks for this post, I should be getting My SM F4 in 3 weeks, after their new year.

Just to clarify the "spoilers" issue a few posts ago:
I googled and found http://www.modelsbuzz.com/forums/gen...hantom-ii.html that roll control is different from what we normally are used to. When commanding a left turn the right aileron drops down, lifting the right wing, but on the left wing the aileron goes UP only a few degrees, instead a spoiler pops up. In effect dumping lift on the left wing thereby dropping it, plus creating more drag to slow the wing and pulling the plane's nose left helping for a coordinated left turn.
In no way the spoilers could be raised simultaneously to act as "flight spoilers".
Already the P61 Black Widow had primarily spoilers for roll control.
A B747 flies with spoilers (assisted) in roll controll too, but they double as flight and ground spoilers.

Gentlemen,
I have attached pictures of how my exhaust nozzle looks like. I am still in doubt if this is ok. I have started and reved up the turbine a couple of times, when its back to idle, the under tail and stabs do get warm. you can still touch it. probably about 80-90degF. However I have not maidened this jet yet and dont know how hot it gets in flight or will it be cooler. I am wondering if all you guys can check this photo and compare to your plane and let me know if you think it is ok or I shouldnt maiden it. What would be the fix if needs be. I am thinkin of removing some of the Plywood flange in the bottom and drop the nozzle down abit.
Also notice from the picture, thats the max up stabilator I am getting. If it turns out not enough, what is the best way to increase the travel, remove material on tail or somebody has better suggestion?
thanks for the help,
Jason

Hi Jason
your pipe looks OK don't give it any more down thrust as it will make it very unstable in the air with power on and you would run out of elevator, dont worry about the heat it is not an isue as for elevator travel you can dremel out a bit to give it abit more travel
around 50 mm each way is fine
what turbine are you using make sure you have 30lb plus hope this of some help to you
regards

Jason,
You don't need anymore elevator throw if the plane is balanced as per my measurements. I put over 50 flights on that plane and never ran out of elevator on the flare and had plenty to pull it around the turns even at full throttle.

Hi All,
Could anyone of you lucky owners of the SM F-4 post some underneat pics of this model. I am realy interested in this kit but the few pics I saw of the bottom of this model are not so convincing, the underside looks very clean and smooth.
Thanks
Mario

Hey guys,
Please tell me the smaller version is still in the works. I inquired about it at FJ's and no one knew anything about it. Did I talk with the right people or has it been placed on the back burner?

Mike the smaller F-4 is still in development. No specific release daye has been given though.
Mario the under side of the F-4 has the same detail as the rest of the model. All panel lines and rivets are there. I will try to get some pics of mine this weekend.

Hi Joseph,
Happy Easter. With the smaller F4 version in the pipe line I do not know if I should go for the big brother or wait a bit longer.
