Paul, Model 100? I'm no expert but I'm not familiar with the M100. Most if not all are either M200 or M220. You want the M200 and NOT the M220 (until someone hacks it too)
Kelly,

Yep, Model 100. I didn't even know to check that at the time. After I got it, I read deeper into the links on how to hack it and saw one that said this model can't be hacked. It's an early version and kind of rare, according to the post. Naturally, I got one! I was hoping that this model had been hacked since that was posted.

EDITING

Firstly can anyone advise on editing the AVI videos that result? The standard MS Movie does not seem to read them.

Secondly the Pincushion is beautifully balanced as regards light and dark. Mine comes out very dark when used in bright sunlight. Did they shroud the lense or do anything in the electronics to get such a good result?

Hi Henry,

Windows Movie Maker reads the avi files just fine but you must have the DivX codec installed which is available at:

http://www.divx.com/

If you are taking video outdoors in the sunlight with the sun behind you and you are getting inferior dark video then something is wrong. OTOH, if you are facing the sun then that sun orientation could cause the darkness. BTW, much of the Pensacola PinCushion video was shot in very poor (cloudy, very little sun) light conditions and I had to contrast enhance many of the video clips that went into the production especially from the second day of flying. However, the entire Lake Wales video was shot in excellent lighting conditions so you should be able to compare the two videos to get a good idea of what you should expect.

FYI,

Gordon

Fantastic Advice

I have done as you suggested and I am thrilled with the result. Thank you very much indeed.

There is of course a huge snag with this little gadget. It is so simple the rest of the family can use it and they do. If I chop it up and put it in a plane, there will be a riot! I shall have to devise a little quick release cradle to mount it in the model as planned. Has anybody else had any ideas on this?

I have the fix for you on this one. Buy more than one and tell them to keep their hands off yours. Seriosly though, I bought 2 of them, my boy got his hands on one and now he has one of his own and I still have 2 for myself.

Can someone tell me how to get the driver to work?
I've already jumper the resistor ("not initialized " on start-up menu)
I got the usb plugged into the computer-it makes a tone when I plug it in- The Saturn program does not "see" the camera

Pretty sure it's a driver not being seen.

Glad to hear you got it and thanks for your prompt paypal payment.

I used the USB cable with LED on your setup. The LED would be a good indicator of proper connection with your PC.

If you have any questions with the setup do not hesitate to ask.

Best Regards

Ben

When I installed the ops software it did not automatically pick up the device driver and I had to do that manually afterwards to get it to work. Right click on My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager. Then, if you see any yellow question marks then you are going to have to manually install the device driver. I don't remember the exact steps but it isn't very hard and you can find more info here:

http://camerahacks.10.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=1969

The name of the device driver file that you want to install is libusb0.dll.

BTW, all but one of my cams were 3.62 versions which require the short and if your cam is now reporting as "not initialized" then you have successfully completed that step in the process.

Gordon

I hate it when I find out about things like this late in the game... stumbled into this thread a few nights ago and decided I'd like to give it a try. So, yesterday I make the one hour drive to the nearest CVS only to find out that they didn't have the camera in stock. Seems there are a few others here in Oklahoma that also know about this little mod [&o] I usually make that trip twice a month so the CVS is now on the "Must Stop and See" list, maybe one of these day's I'll get lucky.

Hi Ben,
Can I get a cd with all the files I need from you?
I'm having trouble getting the computer to see the camera.

Jake,

You can get the files on line at:

http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...kage_id=163302

Click on "quickinstallv2.13.zip".

If you have problems with it working then you probably need to manually load the device driver as I described three posts previous to this post.

Any player will play them such as Windows Media Player or Real Player. However, you need the DivX codec installed which is available at:

http://www.divx.com/

You can also edit the movies and put clips together for a complete movie production with Windows Movie Maker (free with XP) or other products such as Roxio's Videowave.

Just curious if anyone else is having trouble with Putfile.com. For the last four days I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to upload my first CVS camera video to the site. After reading their forum, it appears many others have been having trouble. Suddenly, all of the posts, including mine, have disappeared (and I was civil). If the problem is on my end, I'd like to know, but I'm getting no help from Putfile.

Thanks,
Paul

I scored 10 CVS cams today. They are all FWV 3.4 that requires no hardware hacking (very rear to find). I have to drive 80 miles one way to get them and would be more than willing to share it (without any mods) to anybody interested. Send me PM off line if you want one.

Regards

On a recent trip I, too, scored some version 3.4's----Look at the back of the package in the upper left hand corner on one of the cams that I bought. What are they going to do to anyone that has these to sell at other "outlets" ??? Once I buy the damn thing it's mine to do as I please....I guess CVS is discovering that there are many of these cams not making it back to them....And another thing---Look at the caution warning at the bottom of the package....High Voltage?!?!?!?!? PAAAAAALLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZ!!!!!

Did you mean "no software hacking"? When I think no hardware hacking, I think "you don't need to add a usb attachment to download the videos". Maybe I'm thinking all wrong. On the ver 3.4 you still need some way to download the videos. You just don't have to worry about bricking your camera while trying to short some resistor or hacking into the software, right?

I have three ver 3.62's and one ver 3.7 camera, but I've not had time to mess around with them much. Work getting in the way of my fun [&o]

Hey Steve---I'll answer since Ben isn't online----If you have any other version other than version 3.4 you do have to make a HARDWARE hack by shorting out a component on the circuit board. This can take anywhere from a few minutes to hours depending on your luck/skill. The hardware hack enables you to use the Saturn Tools software to download your videos....Do yourself a BIG favor and get a version 3.4----I made a brick out of one of my cameras trying to do the hardware hack---There went $32.50 down the drain!![:@]

You still have to solder up your pigtails to the camera to enable to use to camera with your computer and in your plane.

If you have any more ???'s just put them here. Look over all of the posts from beginning to end in this thread...I know there's a lot of reading but it will give you an understanding of how everything works. Take a look at Gordon Dickens video of Pin Cushion Goes to Lake Wales in this thread---It's a beauty made with SEVERAL cams in the plane!!!![8D]

Ben

just found this trend very interesting , i live in uk and i want to try this in my helicopter , would you be able to make one for me , with your instructions , cd and cable
i been reading rotor world magazine , one of them made this by placing a bar to hold the camera and it works great . i dont know a lot about computer and cant understand all the terms that everybody used . i want to make it simple for me to understand . i know this one can be powered up using the rx . can i use this in my tmaxx rc car too?
probably i want something that i can use in general so i can swap them (hopefully i can fit back the original casing and use aa battery ,but still can download it into my pc for editing . i can pay you all the cost and shipping through paypal .

thanks
