I have read all these posts and others and i am in the CCTV / Security business. but i still ordered my camera from the Shulman site.
i just cant be bothered to go through all that "hacking". For the extra $ you get a professional product with a warranty, not a hacked together mess

You can pay who you want for what you want. If you mean by "Professional" them doing exactly what myself, seanreit, ghostrider, etc. have done then yes it is professional. They are hacking and soldering the same camera everyone else is, but it is your money so spend it how you see fit. Can you please tell me what kind of warranty you get with the camera?
Ghostrider,
Can you please tell me what kind of battery consumption you see from the camera. I was going to hook mine up through my receiver but thought it prudent to use a separate 4 cell battery for the camera. Interested in seeing what you come up with.
I am also working on a micro switch for my camera so I can start and stop the record from a remote location by hand. If I can get that to work then I am mounting a camera under the canopy of my hotspot and just drill a small hole to run the power, usb, and record switch through. I will post pics if I can get the remote switch hooked up.

I have not checked into power consumption but I strongly believe that my RX battery should handle it. I am using a high capacity battery for all my airplanes (5 pack cells) and could fly x3 b/4 charging. I will check into the consumption and advice you later. One nice thing about the setup is that you could use a seperate battery source for it. Just plug it into the 5v connector.
I am working on making the camera lense seperate from the setup (remote mount with pigtail) and would post pics as soon as I get it perfected. I fried one yesterday during my test run (lol) but heck I only lost $29.99.

Ghostrider,
Definitely interested in a remote lense setup. I know they have been talking about it on the camer hacking site but I don't think anyone has done it yet.
I did find on the site though how to create a remote record switch by soldering directly to the record switch itself. My hand is not that steady at soldering so I am going to have to enlist the help of a friend who does soldering small components for a living.

Another thing you can put together easily is the LED Lights for you jets. My friend Ben Burdin from Lima Ohio have perfected it and those that attended Hearts Of Ohio Jet Scramble or Spideman Jets at Winamac would attest to how great his system works. Just do an eBay search on 12 cluster bright LED bulbs on eBay and get your soldering iron ready and you could put one together easily. http://search.ebay.com/search/search...e=search&fgtp=
Heck this one is only $10.50 for 2 - 12 WIDE LED LEDS 3156 ULTRA WHITE LIGHT BULB BULBS http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-12-...06740036QQrdZ1

I was over in the Super Jet South Event thread when I came across a post regarding a micro video camera that David Shulman had in his bandit at the event. I guess there was alot of interest in the micro camera. Well they are selling the camera for 225.00 ready to go.
Well I have one of these cameras and it cost me only 50.00 to put it together. The little micro camera that the Shulman's are selling on their website can be had from CVS Drugstores for the low price of 29.99. You have to open the case of the camera and solder the wires to it to provide power and usb connectivity which should take someone with soldering skills approx 20-30 minutes. The software for downloading the video is shareware and can be had from several sites on the web.
Go to this site and you can read all about how to make the mods to the cameras and where to get the shareware drivers from.

If you want one but don't have a CVS near you let me know and I can pick one of the cameras up and ship it to you for the cost of the camera, shipping and packing materials. I don't want to make money off of this because I have used this forum to increase my knowledge from my fellow modelers and I have had fellow modelers send me things to try out before I buy, not knowing me from adam. So this is my way of returning the favor to you all.
Thanks,
Patrick.

I am confused. As Todd said early on this thread: don't you get a TX & RX with the Shulman set-up? The CVS thing just stores video for download after landing, right? Don't get me wrong, I would definitely take the do-it-yourself route, but it sounds like we are comparing apples & oranges.
Me and PulseJet Harry just bought a 380 line CCD 2.4 GHz with audio set-up from Walmart for $78. Works pretty good, but the range could be better.

Go to shulmanaviation.com and look at his main page. As you can tell the camera that he is selling for 225.00 are the CVS camcorders that we are all talking about here.

Could someone post a step by step on soldering and installing the software. Also, some instructions on how to take video, then download it to your PC? The website everyone is referring to is a garbled mess of bits and pieces of instructions? Also it's geared to the computer guys, not the average computer user.
Help please,
Chris

Wocket, nope!!! For 225.00 you get what I paid 25.00 for and spent 20 minutes laughing my ass off putting together, these things are the real deal, I've got almost 10 of them now coming up with all kinds of uses.
Chris, try this
No problem, but this work has already been done at that camera hackers site. It is easy to do it's ridiculous.
Between this thread:
http://camerahacks.10.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=621
And this thread:
http://camerahacks.10.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=1577
As for a picture of install of the USB cable,
Look at this gross thread:
http://camerahacks.10.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=1185 in that one, he is showing you literally if you had a stick with the USB wires taped on, you could connect it to the pins in the top of the camera, but it's better, to solder a female USB cable inside the camera and cleaner.

Mitty,
Don't blame Schulman for selling a product. You should thank him for bringing this to our attention and taking the time to do the work and sell a complete package. The price is and should be whatever the market demands.
You should be pissed at all of the hackers, myself included, for screwing up the business model of PureDigital. Technically, you are making money by not having to spend any getting your video processed.

Is there any way to move the lens to a 90 degree angle to the board? I see on the shulman cam they put a mirror on it so that you can keep the board flat when you mount it. I also noticed on the vids made with it they always point the cam to the rear of the plane, suppose this is because of the air trap created by the mirror...

Now I am more confused than ever! This thing?? http://www.shulmanaviation.com/Micro-Camera.html That's not the same as the CVS deal, right? BTW, I am still up here in Huntsville and there is a CVS pharmacy near by. A quick lunch time trip may be in order!

No, the link you posted is to a different camera. That's definately a wireless system. The cvs as you said is totally self contained. All you have to do with it is turn it on, put it on your plane, fly for a bit, land, turn it off then either watch what you recorded on the camera or download it to your laptop and burn a cd or dvd.... I have both styles now, wireless and self contained and the self is much easier with less stuff to carry etc...
