I have a really old P-80 that is looking for a home. I would be suprised if it pushes out any more than 18lbs. Would this be enough to fly the Flash?

What is the performance like compared with the Kangaroo/Rookie on P80? I know they are completely different models but it would give me a rough idea whether my P80 would be enough for me in the Flash.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get more ooompph out of the really old P-80s?

It should fly really nice on a P-80.My flying with P-120 is mostly on half throttle.

If you go to the Comp-ARF website you can download the Flash manual. There is a photo of the fuselage tank in the manual.

Hey guys,

how much fuel does the flash carry, and can i have some pics of the fuel tanks ?

is the wing tank an option or a must? is there another (large) tank in the fue ?

please advise.
As for my Flash, it's got a P80 in it, and I get around 8 minutes with about 1/2 inch of fuel left in the fuse tank and the stock hopper is full sitting next to a BVM UAT that is also full. So, even with 8 minutes (more than enough for me) you've still got enough fuel for a few go-arounds. I thought about buying the wing tank, but honestly I just don't need it.

Also, with my P80 and 100 degree Phoenix AZ weather, I use about 300 feet to take off with half flaps. I could probably get it in the air earlier, but it looks more realistic with the steady TO.

I've been thinking a bit more about getting one of these and have been considering engines and fuel tanks. It sounds like my P80 would be ok but it seems to me that with just the fuselage tank there is not quite enough fuel for my liking. However I don't really need another 1.4 litres as carried in the wing tank.

I was wondering how much spare room there is in the wing tank bay. Would there be enough room to split the wing tank in two (or have custom ones made) and use half for fuel and half for smoke fluid? Which would be the best way to 'halve' the tank (i.e. lengthways - 2 tanks side by side / widthways - one in front of the other)? Would there be enough room to fit the additional pipework of a second tank?

Mine came out at nearly 24lb's with a Jetcat 120, Behotec retracts, x2 Sanyo 2400 Nicads and a 3700 NIMH for ECU. I used these batteries instead of lipo's, as I knew I would have to add nose weight too compensate the engine. As a result of this, I did not add any nose weight. I would'nt worry, with that engine, a couple of pounds wont make much difference. It sounds a perfect set up too me.

I used LIPOS and made a removable shelf that fits way up front + still have room for the air tank, only needed 4 oz to get it to balanced... using a WREN SuperSport, flies GREAT overall weight is 18 lb!!

Thanks Ian,
I think the extra 2lbs I have is due to the jet 1A landing gear, I was told that these are heavier than the Behotec. I am just a little concerned that the field that I fly from is big enough to bring her in on. A bit different to the boomer XL i fly there.

If your field is grass, you will be happy with the JETA1 gear, the BEHOTEC ones from CARF have a habit of snapping the 6mm pins on anything that is slightly rough like most grass fields. I have a set of trailing link struts on mine that really cured this problem!

I don't have the wing tank fitted .. the SS is not a thirsty engine I get 8-9 min flights + I removed the brakes to save weight + I'm using all Lipos for power that also saves weight My plane stops quite quickly on our grass fieid

BVM makes some neat little clips for this purpose, go to the BVM website and search under "accessories"

Learn to land properly guys

or alternatively buy a couple of these wing skids -

http://www.ripmax.com/CAT2006/2006-252.pdf
or
http://www.flairmodels.co.uk/Accesso...tive/skids.htm

Cut of the two 'prongs' and attach to the bottom of the tailplane with servo tape.
