Here is a video link to my first flight with smoke installed. Unfortunately there was no cameraman so it's just a locked off tripod shot. More to come...

After a following this thread silently for a couple of years I decided to contribute something from my third build of this great plane. I compiled it into a PDF so that it wouldn't turn into a million posts. Post any comments or questions.

Atomicx,

Really really nice job on yours mate! i like the colour scheme too.

You have now set the benchmark for me in regards to the equipment layout in the cockpit. I like how your packs are setup so that they are also removable from the model for charging, real sweet setup.

Also, how have you found the Trex 600 boom for strength?? that might just be the perfect solution for all of us chasing a carbon replacement boom Trex parts are a dime a dozen and available everywhere so anyone can get to them pretty easily. a LHS up the road from me who only does chopper parts (Align specialist at that too) has the 3k ones ion stock for $38 USD.

Thanks

dave

Thanks Dave. I'm glad you like it!

The Trex boom has been plenty strong and very rigid. Iglued to each former with hysol. I think it's less than a quarter of the weight of the aluminum one.The unfortunate thing is that thediameter is a fair amount larger so it requires some mods to get it in. It's also a couple inches longer which requires boring outanother former on each side. I had to open up the retract area a bit to get ateverything. This is why I have aluminum plates around the mains.I wanted something a bit longer so that it would connect fully to the landing gear formers so this worked great. Ilooked everywhere online and actually found a perfect fit but it was over $100 USD. I picked this one up for under $40 USDand have been very happy with it.

Congrats Derrick - Nice job. The GPS is a clever touch. I understand about the airspeed. My Kingcat went 198 with a P120 in just a slight decent. Nice looking Falcon as well. Did you have any problems getting the correct CG?

By the woy folks - The fuel tanks Derrick makes and sells are excellent.

Thanks for the comment booker-RCU !!

I have sold 44 tanks as of today and everyone seems happy and no returns for leaks....THANK GOD >...

I had no problem with C.G. everything was planned out....so it was perfect.

Going to put a Titan SE on it to see what kind of verticle I can get.....should be exciting !!!!!!!!!!!!

Airplane flys great. Tires wonthold air and they come off the rims. Maybe the plane is too heavy for those type of tires. I did take them apart a couple times to see if there was something assembled wrong......looks good. I do see where some redesign could make them better.

The main struts need to be redesigned. I only have 5 flights on them and they are worn out! Shoulder bolts should have been used! I am going to order the solid tires from dreamworks tomorrow!

Anyways, my Falcon is awesome. I didn't think it would fly so great !!

I pulled it hard today in turns...tracks fine !!!

I flew it very high....no bad habits at all !

Thanks sweetpea01!

Derrick, nice performance! I hadn't considered the Falcon breaking the 200 mph speed limit. Very cool! I did seea youtube videoofaguy with a Titan ona basicFalcon,I almost felloff my chair laughing at how fast it came off the deck and went straight up. After that it was just a couple of specs flying by in the video. How much fuel do you carry and whatare your flight times with the P120?

I have a Titan SE lying around ......going to try it on the Falcon........see what kind of vertical I get with it......Should be exciting !!!

Derrick.

Atomicx Can you give me details on the Trex Boom that you are using? Maybe a pic or part number so I can try and find one around here. Thanks George

You just need to ask for a Trex 600 carbon replacement boom. Here is a link to one place that sells them and where you can get them from in the US, but Trex's are highly popular choppers and many LHS stock parts for them.

http://www.heliproz.com/prodinfo.asp?number=386097

I See now that the internal size of the tube is 20mm and the external is 21.5mm[:@]. Can't be bothered chopping into the wings if i don't have to...

Thanks

dave

This is where i am at with my Falcon,

Going to be using a Wren Mk 2.5 manual start. I have knocked out the formers from the fuse. and drilled the anti-rotation pin holes in the fuse. I also poured CA into all the areas i could reach in the wings.

I found a 2.4lt (81oz) juice bottle for my fuel tank so that should give good flight times. i will just have to heat the back end of it a little to get it over the main spar but other than that, it fit's fine in the fuse.

I have also included a pic of the hinges i am going to use on the flaps to make sure i have full travel available. these are the same as Dreamworks sells, but at half the price!! from hobbycity.

thanks

dave

Dave, it seems that you have read this thread right through, which is no small task! Yours will be very similar to mine which weights 13lbs dry and has great vertical performance with my PST600. My fuel tank is even the same, useing the Berri juice bottle. What retracts and legs/brakes did you decide on? It would seem that you can either go for the complete rebuild with extra weight or keep it light with only the required strengthening required. Either way results in a great economical sport jet.

hi guys. the falcon 120 can handle a wren 54 turbine.a p60-70 and afew others. must go over all joints and formers as they use ****ty glue. a few mods is needed but over all very nice plane to fly. don't put too big turbine on it or it will fly too peices if you giveit some neddies. one person has a couple of them and he strips the covering off the wings and fibreglasses them he does a very nice job. they will land at near walking pace he has about 20% flaps first stage and about 45 on final stage.
i am not a rep but i say what it is at

two reason for down thrust

1: don't burn tail feathers if have a wet start

2: if go to full throttle it will climb

Hey mate! these little beasties seem popular with the aussie pilots!!!

Yeah i read the whole thread!! almost twice through all the post becuase there are so many good ideas/experience here. it does take a few days and some tired eyes to get there!

Still tossing up what to get in terms of L/G, and i have even emailed airpower directly to see if they could match/beat the dreamworks price, but no response after the initial enquires.... I just am sturggling to pay top dollar for retracts when this is effectivily a cheap option to get into jet flying, ultimately i would love to get my hands on a second hand set, but i would have to get pretty lucky for that to happen. either way, it will probably not happen before christmas at this stage.

Still waiting on TBM to come back with the shipping price for my servos which are also holding me up.

Thanks

dave

Dave

Have you tried the Digitech site for retracts?

Also you don't have to use fancy hinges to get full travel on the flaps, put the left flap on the right wing upside down and visa versa, this will give you the correct profile for CA hinging and 90 deg travel.

Mike
