My buddy dropped off a CD load of pics from yesterday so one last time with the still pics of my Hawk. But you gotta admit he took some great photos! Interesting that most of the good ones were close in slow flight with the flaps out.

Nice pics, I like the white outline on your canopy (like the full scale one). Did you paint it or is it vinyl?

The probe is the cats meow Alan. The field is Radio Control Flyers Unlimited at Woodward Reservoir near Oakdale, CA. It is a wonderful field. I am also a member at Woodland Davis but the two fields are pretty far apart. The white canopy frame outline was masked and painted. The center hoop is white plastic sign material stuck on with a strip of clear double side tape.

Way back in 2009 when I started this thread I mentioned a CARF Corsair also arriving...well 5 years later its finally "nearly" ready! Long story and a road trip its back for me to sort out the final details and set up. It was painted in Poland!

Yes very well weathered! The guys did a great job, I'm very happy with the painting. Lots of other things to sort out though!

Mike, very happy with the job they did.
Yes, Moki 250. JR XG-11 DMSS. Its got the D&L wing fold and gear and that's been the biggest pain, think we are on the 5th set of drives.

Sweet, makes me want to get started on my Petrausch Fw-190. Why is it so hard to get the big warbirds together? 5 years!
Ronnie what up?!

5 years is a long story, it was "MIA" in Poland for 3 years! Though my employee took nearly 3 years on a composite P-51...but he has the attention span of a flea ;-)

I've been working on the flap covers, and I just thought that the aileron linkage needed a cover to, so I made one (actually two...)

Its shaped balsa glassed, then the balsa routed out. Its been primed and sanded, but it still needs to be painted, obviously.

On the main gear doors, I've seen a few that had problems closing in flight because there wasn't enough leverage for the cylinders. to fix this, I made my own replacement forward hinges. The lever arm where the cylinder attaches is longer, and angled more downward to maximize leverage of the cylinder. The 1 1/2" Robart cylinders have plenty of stroke to close them with the longer arm.

The hinge method is completely stock and required no rounding of the door edges or fiddling with the door seats. The trick was to move the hinge line far enough inboard and to remove the green foam where the hinge wire sets so that it is right under the wing skin.

I posted before how I cut a larger hatch to get at the landing gear screws. It made installing the landing gear with proper blind nuts MUCH easier.

Having done so, I wanted to see how difficult it would be to make the outside doors actually operational. It turned out to be fairly easy.

The outer doors are hinged to the hatches I cut out and the entire assembly screws into blocks on the wing skins so that they can be removed to service the gear.

There is a tapered plywood piece glued to the back side of the middle gear doors that push the outer doors open when the gear come down. The outer doors rest on this piece when the doors are closed.

There are two small rare-earth magnets embedded in the outer doors and the tapered plywood piece to hold the outer doors closed when the gear is up.

There is an elastic cord between the middle doors and the outer doors that holds the outer doors against the middle ones when the gear is down and pulls the outer doors closed when the gear goes up.

Nice Details Bob, can't see the pics in your last post, I'm very interested in seeing how you did the small outer doors. I still have mines unused with the idea of making them functional.
Thanks!

I uploaded the pictures again. Curious, the pictures showed up when I first posted them and they actually showed up when I "edited" the post, but they were gone when I saved it.

Anyway, I deleted them and re-uploaded them. We'll see if this holds...
