Hi Ricardinho,

Are you the gentleman that is bringing the Hawk to Farview next Sat. for the the maiden flight? If so I talked with you briefly with Albert yesturday about your Hawk. You showed me a picture of it on your phone.

No I have the L-39. My buddy Albert is the one with the dragon. Jim also had a dragon. He was the guy set up by you with the green one.

On grass it takes 60-80m (180 feet!) at just above sea level

hello all did the maiden this weekend and all went pretty good. the plane flys very easy and nice. heres the problems. lost the gear doors on the first flight.. landing gear was very hard to get working right. had to go inverted to get the gear up. on my fifth flight had to do a belly landing because one gear got stuck. well figured the problem out . my friend george on here had a hawk like mine and had similar issues. the brass pins on the cylinders were binding on the side of the retract mount causing to get stuck. had to do some mods to the retracts to finally get them to work correctly. mine has the smaller cylinders with the newer lighter wheels. anyway i can pump them up now to 100psi and cycle them 6 times now.. big time diffrence. before lucky to get two cycles at 140 psi. anyway no damage on the belly landing..thank got... the plane is awesome and flys very well . mine is nose heavy but no issues. the landings are very predictable. sink rate is very nice and smooth.. want to thank everyone on here especialy dave wilshire who i think i drove crazy with all the questions.. thanks again...ricardinho

Pat,
You did a fantastic job with the hawk. Especially the belly landing. Maybe Eddie will post a pic of the out come of that one...
Now I know I want one.

Your questions were minor compared to some of my customers! Well done on the flights, It does land nicely. You are right there are some units where the brass slider is longer than the width of the frames, I have seen that also on some sets. You must trim the wood parts to remove the step which is part of the jigging process

Not sure if Erwin has been away, send me an email and I will forward it on to him...I have 3 email addresses for him for different times of day and week ;-)
[email protected]

I'll get on it. AirTech Germany have undertaken to replace all cylinders, I know a lot have been sorted in Europe.

The deal is you send the small ones back. I think a couple of early people had new Cylinders first and never returned the old ones...

We realise it is a pain, but once done it's a different flying experience...all joy

Inconel,
Beautiful airplane, nice job on the detailing.
I'm curious if the wing 'fences' come standard on the C-Arf Hawk? I've seen the larger fence (outboard) on several examples, but not the smaller inboard ones. Did you add those yourself?
Regards, Jim

Jim

He's added them. They are not part of most Hawks they modelled

I've just got one of these and wondering if anyone has used a single servo on elevator. ie. JR 8711. The manual calls for 2 8411's or 8711's. 1x 8711 has as much power as 2x 8411's. It could save considerable nose weight. I have one 8711 on the elevator of my 1/5.5 skymaster hawk with no issue and it's just a smidge smaller than the carf.

Sorry if I missed this earlier in the thread but, a quick look and I didn't see any discusion of it.

I wouldn't. The reason for two was not servo power, it was for resistance. A single servo gear play, output spline play etc. I was worried about resisting flutter. Really 2 x 8711 has proven itself perfect and nose weight is not an issue.

I have the small cylinders on my gear and the same retraction problems. My Comp ARF rep is getting me replacement cylinders but they are not free for sure. I have to pay for the cylinders.

My opinion is Comp Arf is ultimately responsible for selling a gear system that does not work properly with their plane. They should provide at no cost and work it out with their vendor (Erwin).

Erwin is telling my rep there is nothing wrong with the size of the cylinders. Yea, I am sure they might work at 200 psi!
Mine don't work at 150psi.

My Comp ARF rep is great for handling this.

If you order a Hawk, insist it comes with the large cylinders.

Who is asking you to pay? I have not charged any of the UK customers and my understanding is that its the same there.

Only the mains need changing, the smaller nose is perfect.

jeff so tell me when you pump up to say 130 psi you cant get them to cycle one time. i had a problem in the beginning with mine also. the brass pinns where binding on the side of the rtract mount cousing them not to work freely.. take out the unit and inspect very well.. i dremmeled mine down a little. now i can cycle my gear with 65psi... i was also quick to jump on the cylinders until my friend found what was going on... let me know...what exactly yours is doing....pat
