Very impressive Tam, and for me to say that about a dust buster is really something. You need to put the wing fences on to improve slow speed stall handling.

Thanks Ali,
I missing one wing fence in the package. That is why I didn't put it on.
But on landing mode. I had crow set up. That really stable the slow speed.
You were right about the Hawk doing EDF when we discuss as CA-Jets.
Is a clean effecient airframe.
Now I can fly it 6 minutes in tight circus. I need to learn how to fly scale. Somedays you had to show me Ali.

Hi Tam
I am more than happy to teach you to fly scale. In fact I will teach you to fly anyway you like. Just send the tickets over. Anytime in October is fine!
I understand that Crow will help but trust me so will the fences. I am sure also the fences will help in normal flight as well as slow speed flight.
The same applies to the ventral fins. The reason why I say this is that I have recently flown two comp-arf hawks. One had ventral fins and wing fences fitted. The other had neither. The difference in the way they flew was really quite dramatic.

Tonight I'll glue the fins on and and duplicate the missing fence.
If this Hawk flew by you. It will seal the deal with all the interested buyer in the Electric forum.

Tam,
November hey??? Sounds interesting, but I bet good money on the fact that you wont have that Hawk by november! LOL Shame as I would love to fly it.
Let me know what you notice when you glue the fins and fences on..
Also did you have any change in trim with power?
Regards Al

If I sold this one. I'll built the next one.
No trim at all with the power.
But I find it need more down elevator inverted.
So I might move the C.G farther back from 190mm.

Mine at 190mm does nice inverted loop...not C of G.
Thrust line on my Hawk is being changed, little more down thrust needed.

I'm building the Hawk in the Swiss schema but I'm not sure if I have found the most correct colours.
Can anyone confirm that my suggestions are correct or not?
BS=British Standard
-Light Aircraft Grey BS381C colour 627
-Signal Red BS381C colour 537 and the
-"Trainer Yellow" colour nr ?? for the leading edge, ving/rudder

Thanks, I know. Just ordered decals from him. But I will use paint I know from earlier, thats why I gave it a try here.
You said you will change the thrust line on your Hawk. I suppose that involves raising the turbine a bit an also the pipe in front?

Only removing plywood packing, I will mount the turbine on the rails and try. So yes, raise the front of the tube around 6mm from where I am.
My very early kit the elevator servo plate is lower than later kits and restricted height option, hence the packing plywood.
If you place a straight edge across the wing seat, my purple Jetcat 120 cover is flush now and will be 6mm higher after the change.

Hi, Question were is the tunnel for the aileron ext. wire . I can't seem to fine away to run the servo extension without cutting into the main spar ??? Also looks like I have only one wing fence ?? any info. on the angle for the fuse. vanes (fins ) seems to be left off the instructions.

The aileron wire runs down the wing infront of the spar and passes through in the wing centre section. I'm guessing you have an early kit and there should be vertical slots in the wood spar, mine came through these slots.
The fuse and wing fence detail will be on a photo sheet to go with the manual, I apologise it's not complete. The angle is not critical, I looked at FS Hawk pics, it'a around 20 degrees out on each. The missing fence is a packing error, contact your rep and he can get another sent. I made my missing one from the scrap material.
As Paul's photos, I flew the Hawk again today, both at Chalgrove and after a 50 mile rush at our local club Bar BQ on a grass 90m strip. The Hawk easily took off and landed in 50m max! This is with a P120, it really does not need more.
I finally got something in the cockpit, it's a cheat but looks ok in the shots!
Model now has the turbine mounted on the factory rails and if anything I would flip the mount over and mount the turbine/tube higher in the fuselage. My turbine purple cover is now 7mm below (higher) the wing seat and could go more, hence flipping the mount. With a strong turbine the model climbs under power. Flown at scale speeds it trims OK.
I nreally love this model and everyone who see's it wants one!

Does the Hawk have closed wheel wells? reason I ask is that those doors would not last one landing on our sheep patch so it would have to fly without UC doors, this could build up the pressure inside the wing and cause delamination of the foam core as it has on some other composite airframes.

No, but you could have the gear doors close up and down and then it would not be a problem! It lands sooo slowly gear is never going to be a problem with this aeroplane

The first kit run was quite small, Trevor Skedge bought a Hawk a month back and his is a later kit with moved elevator plate and full packing list. The turbine tanks are coming through, I had one for another customer last week and that includes all the mounting plates.
Do it!!
