yes, the weight.
I see that you have the scale gear, so I guess that will add a bit more weight?!?

The scale gear is 1800g so I guess it adds around 0,5kg over the standard gear. But I have not seen the standard gear so I don't know the weight.

Some photos of my Hawk shot at german semiscale-jet-masters. (over-)powered with a jetcat P160 and controlled with ACT S3D 2.4 GHz.

See us at JetPower!! (look for at the ACT-Tradeplace in the main-tent).

My Hawk has the sports gear.

Yes, it's perfectly powered by a P120

Dave

Do you have any of these in stock and more importantly how much? or do I have to go through the usual Comp ARF rigmarole of getting a quote etc.

Sno

I put three tanks on top of the fuel tank. They are BVM 4204's with two linked for gear. The tank supplied in the CARF air kit goes in the cockpit floor.
(The two bolts are for the wing, stored on Model Aviation Products 4mm tube clips)

Hi Dave,

Compliments to you on your nice Hawk and build job. Could you kindly elaborate on the performance with the 120sx you have in yours with a full load of fuel for take off on grass ? (I believe you mentioned fly off grass once in a while)

All out full throttle performance and speed compared to say your Flash or a Bandit arf? I realize its a scale type jet, but would like to have your opinion on the speed comparison if you will.

Any others who are up and flying there Comp-arf Hawk please feel free to chime in here.

Thank you much, Dan

Dan

Thank you, it's getting there!
Performance is more than needed (even for power craze Americans I think!) on Grass it will take off in 150ft in calm conditions, 100ft in some wind. Landing is the same! I used half of our 300' strip last weekend without any effort to nail the numbers. The wing is such that take-off distance is less than a P120 Flash (we fly 8 from the same site!) it's weighs a simular amount, but with much more wing. Full of fuel (3.2 ltr) it will climb strongly at 40 degrees from TO, but we are + 300 ft ground level and coolish. I have hundreds of Flash flights (I love it) but the Hawk is a heart breaker on looks and flying. Slowest KE flight I have ever seen with a Jet.
Speed wise I have not flown it full chat sports jet style, it looks so wrong, but in the interest of the design I let a throttle bender pal of mine fly it to see if it held together at VNE and yank! It did!! I guess it was a little slower than a Flash, defo less than a Bandit 120! It's way way too fast for scale, I'm flying 12 minutes and still landing with 750-950ml of fuel! It flies so slowly it's enjoyable doing it!
I would plump P120SX every time with this plane, I have P160SX's sitting there but feel no need at all to fit one. The basic design has won 2 JWM in a row so I'm sure it's good

Hopefully will get a video in it's finished "tweeked" state soon.

Sounds really really nice ! Thank you for that detailed response Dave, just what I was looking for. I take it that your sport landing gear is holding up and absorbing the landings nicely ?

I am probably going to go with the black color scheme which I really like, but just not sure on the visual of black on a cloudy grey sky day.

Look forward to all the great input on this fine machine - video would be awsome !

Sorry missed your reply, no stock in UK as normal with CARF, I can order them in as I have with two customers. You can then collect from me.

Dan, yes German made gear, struts and wheels! It's the same leg I have on my Flash, which has been flying on grass for 2 years plus. Only thing I would like is a stop on the mains as you can get the doors to hit the ground!
My buddy Trevor Skedge has the black 90th scheme which will fly soon, with his eyes we will find out if it's a problem. We have a few grey skies here to test this to!
Get one, you will really like it!

Another grass field day with the Hawk, unfortunately the video guy did not turn up, so Rob Westwater took some shots between flying his Harpoon II and Spark.

First flight I did a few low passes...this one the guys say the fuse fins were in the grass a 1/2 second after this shot!
Like I said great model

Another CARF Hawk is ready for testing, expertly built by one of the M&R team for Trevor Skedge, who built a new house and didn't sort the workshop first! I know I know

Decals from Taylor Made powered by an old P120 and sporting new JR DSX-12 radio it's ready for Abingdon
