I would like to use an A123 battery for my K-80's ECU power but Barry has told me that the K-80 ECU requires 7.4v (2 cell lipo) which makes a 6.6v (2 cell) A123 too small and the 9.9v (3 cell) A123 too much. I have looked for some kind of voltage requlator that would reduce the 9.9v to the correct 7.4v but have not been successful in finding anything that would work. Short of custom building a device, does anyone have a suggestion or know of something that would solve this problem? Thanks
No issue using 6.6V LiFe (A123) battery with the Xicoy ECU. Low voltage on this engine is 6V and LiFe packs maintain 6.6V throughout the discharge cycle.
Feel free to use the 6.6V A123 pack!
I would assume this might be a problem when running kero start that the burner requires 7.0v to 7.4v.

Thanks Todd and Barry for your suggestions.

Todd, I failed to mention that I have the kero start model and, if it needs a higher voltage, as Barry said, I don't think the 6.6v A123s will be sufficient.

Barry, How many amps does the kero start pull? Would this 10A BEC workrather than the 20A one you suggested:

Ah, yes... May be an issue with the Kero version. Will test today on 6.6 and 9.9V to see what the best solution will be.

Gents,

Obviously I'm missing something.

1. The pump has a Deans plug. What does it plug into?
2. What does the ECU battery plug into?

It appears I need a Y-harness that I don't have. Does anyone know the wiring diagram with the pin-outs?

Chris, did you get one of these???

On mine harness as shown, the deans plugs into the pump. The two wires unconnected there wire up to your ECU Bat. Now mines a propane start so if yours is kero, the wiring may be a little Diff.

I didn't. Bought the engine NIB, but not from Barry. I can easily make it. As long as the pin-out marked on the ECU is correct.
Mine is Gas too.

Thanks for quick response. I'm heading to Radio Shack.

Chris Call Barry
at www.Kingtechusa.com I am sure he would send you a Wire lead. Just let him know it is the Battery/Fuel pump lead you need.

Chris, I will be in and out today because I'm setting up/building a jet for a freind so if you have the plugs and need to pin-outs let me know and I will break them down for ya. That way it will save a few days waiting for one. I can do a closeup of the Mutiplex plug wiring and that will get you straightened out.

YepThats the way the pinouts on mine are. The two pump leads to the outside with plus on the left and the Bat leads in the two mid Pos with plus on the inside left. Thats with the Multiplex plug key up like you have it. Those two middle leads for the Bat, I wouldn't hurt for you to ohm them or I can do it on mine to find out if they are tapping the upper or lower pin on the multiplex. In fact on the harness (Which you don't have) I may have to do that for you if you can't trace those back to the ECU.

Chris, I checked my harness and On mine, the two mid wires for the ECU Bat are picking up both the upper and lower center Mutiplex pins.

You da man! Thanks. I'm treating the middle pairs like one pin each. In other words 4 wires to the plug as 1-2-2-1.

You got it. Like the red left bat wire on your drawing goes to the upper and lower pin. LIkewise, the right black wire from the Bat goes to the upper and lower as well. At least now thats the way it is on my harness. Rather than Ohming it out, I just pealed the shrink back and looked first hand. Make darn sure you put shrink wrap on each one to keep them Sep.

I don't know what it is with people keeping the cables (I bought mine used as well). I got one to that was missing the rpm cable from the turbine to the ecu + shut off valve etc..

I put mine in a shockjet and have a few flights on it now. I love how quick it starts on regular propane, no more powermax!!!

Jon, Your right. The K-80 like the Reg propane. I'v started mine and ran it a MIn on the test stand but so far have not put it in a jet. I already had three going and just have not built anything to put the K-80 in. But it is next. I think I will have to buy a upgrade pump though. Stock pump that came with it is not 100%. on mine.

Barry got me a new cable for $20. I was getting frustrated for a bit as there was always something going on.. (not barry's fault although they lost my reg info, lol). Missing cables, broken plug, missing shut off valve etc.

But now I'm very pleased with the K80. I believe that I have the flightworks pump. The acceleration to me seems to be as good as on the super bee. I'm hoping that I can use the propane on my other turbines as well and completely get away from powermax!

Jon, I have about one case of powercell left that I have to use on a "whatsit" turbine but after that, I'm green can propane all the way. Barry is good when it comes to keeping things going. I'm hoping he has a Flightworks pump he will sell me here in a few.

Come on in here and tell us how things is going Chris!!!!!

Hi ! I have a Kingtech K80, and performed my firs turbine flight today! I'm from São Paulo city Brazil!
Check out the videos.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9c_retqYapQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hs-6SrVoRBs
The turbine is excelent and I'm very happy with it!
But i the temperature probe is always like 15 celsius degres hotter than the ambient temperature, in another topic someone talked abou re-calibrating the probe? How can I do this? Or I just leave the way it is? It's my firs turbine, and I don't know if it's normal.
Like, today was 20 degres and the term prob show like 34 degres. But the engine was running very good!!!!!!!
Thanks for the advise, and sory for my english, but I hope you can understand!

Mega, thats close enough that I would leave it alone. Barry may say diff but if it was mine, I wouldn't touch it. All mine run a little hotter than the ambient.

Congrats on your maiden Megafly, Hooker53 is right, that 15 degrees is about 2.5% difference at 600 C towards the conservative side, so you engine is fine.
