It dosent matter which way you put them in, the solenoids are kinda like a resistor.

Just got my K80f a couple weeks ago. The Fadec is different from the pictures in the manual. Can someone tell me which way to plug in (polarity) the fuel switch and the starting fuel switch? The Fadec I have is the one where the connectors are on on top rather than the side. The RPM sensor and thermocouple plug polarity was explained in the manual, but I could not find anything about the fuel switches.
Thanks for the help.

Hi to you all from cold and windy England,I need some advice.I am not new to turbines,my usualy weapon is a Wren 54,but I decided to buy a K80 kero engine....fantastic I thought............
rather than put it straight into a model I made a nice test stand to run her up on..........
now the fun starts, are both the kero and the gas Fadecs the same...?
the label on mine says Gas and Fuel...so logic says plug the fuel solenoid into the fuel port and the kero solenoid into the gas port....yes ??
primed the pump, purge air from the lines.......connected the lines to the engine and yes I did make sure I had them the right way round, 4 mm tubing from the fuel solenoid.......and 3 mm from the kero solenoid....
set the radio....and all ready to go............kept the fire extinguisher close at hand just in case.....
Inititiated the start....engine started to spool up ,grin appears on my face.....a little though to myself....why bother with gas...this is great.......
THEN....A FIREBALL ERRUPS..FLAMES AND FUEL ARE POURING OUT THE BACK....QUICK BLAST WITH THE EXTINGUISHER AND THE FIRE IS OUT.....cooled the engine down, cleaned up the fuel now soaking my test bed and went in doors while I stopped trembling.......
waited and hour...double double checked everything........initiated another start and BLAM....ANOTHER FIREBALL,FLAMES AND FUEL FLYING OUT THE TAIL PIPE....ANOTHER RAPID SHUT DOWN....A BLAST OR TWO FROM THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND AGAIN SCARED TO DEATH........
so now I am wondering why I bought a K80...never any problems with my Wren........
So I now go through everything with a fine tooth comb hoping something simple is wrong..........what I have found is that only fuel port on my Fadec is working...there is no power from the gas port,I have swopped the soleniods over thinking one may be faulty but no...the gas port is dead........
I took the fule lines off the engine to do a test........both with a start sequence and with a pump prime test...the gas port is still deal....I swapped the soleniods over ...but still only the fuel port drives the pump in any situation........the manuel I have to say is somewhat lacking when it comes to the kero start engine.........
My though is that I have a faulty Fadec...I am certainly not going to try a third start and risk damaging the engine
all thought and comments welcome...before I call the dealer.........just glad I hadnt put in the model...I would be very unhappy then...not too happy now...but am sure we can solve the problem.....
Please help....Adrian

hi
welcome from cold and windy England
I need help
I normally fly a Wren 54 with absolutely no probems,I decided to by a K80 kero start....fantstic or so thought
I made a nice test stand for the engine rather that fit it straight into a model.......
read the instructions book...not a great deal on the kero engine...but never mind.....
checked and rechecked all the fittings and plumbing................
first question are the Fadec for the kero and the gas the same......mine is labelled Gas and fuel.........so by logic I connected one solenoid to the fuel port and piped it to the fuel inlet on the engine with the 4mm line
so by default I connected the other solenoid to the gas port...used the 4 to 3mm coupling and connected the 3mm line to the kero inlet....
checked again everything was correct........disconnected main line while I primed the pump and purged air from the system........
set the radio.....r.eady for blast off....little did I know this is exactly what was about to happen........
initiated a start.....engine starts to spool up and a big grin appears on my face...thinking...who needs gas...kero is the way......
THEN ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE...I HAVE A FIREBALL AND NEAT FUEL POURING OUT OF THE ENGINE............A RAPID SHUTDOWN AND A COUPLE IF BLASTS ON THE EXTINGUISHER SANITY RETURNS,I COOL THE ENGINE DOWN AND THEN MOP UP THE WET FUEL NOW ALL OVER THE PLACE.
I leave thing for an hour or so...clean everything, double doulbe check everything just in case I missed something...yep everything is correct.......so I try another start.....SHE STARTS TO SPIN UP......GREAT I THINK...THEN BLAM....FLAMES AND FUEL POURING OUT THE TAIL PIPE AGAIN.....ANOTHER HASTY SHUTDOWN,AND BLAST OF THE EXTINGUISHER.......
LEAVE THINGS TO SETTLE AND I GO BACK LATER TO TRY AND SEE WHAT IS WRONG....I have never had this with any of my other engines....(all gas start)
check absolutely everything.........as a test so as not to pump more fuel into the engine I disconnect the fuel lines....and do a pump test......fuel only comes out of one pipe...hmmmmm...swap solenoids over...only one emits fuel...try the same test with a start sequence.........THE NETT RESULT IS THAT THE PORT LABELLED GAS IS DEAD.....I tried both soleniods in both ports ...there is only power going to the fuel port......
so if there is now power to the gas port(kero) how did the engine manage to start......and once she was spooling up why was so much fuel being pumped in the engine couldnt cope resulting the the fireball....
I assume the engine is fine,so must concled my Fadec is shot...........
I would appreciate any thoughts and advice people can give...shall I just get a new Fadec
regards

Something definitely is wrong to cause the massive flooding, possibly a shorted out ECU. I would suggest to contact the dealer to troubleshoot further.
Good Luck,

Thanks for the help with the fuel solenoid polarity. I was kinda of figuring that the polarity may not matter since every other port has the polarity marked except for the solenoids but I wanted to make sure I did not break something by reversing the polarity. I found this manual and found it very helpful: http://www.espiell.com/FAD10.pdf

Not realy at all. When it was a EDF there was 4lb haging off the back of it. I just used a 5000mha lipo for my ESU batt and put it all the way in the noise. She was dead on 13 1\8 .... Out to the field i go....

hi
does any one know if the gas start and the kero start Fadecs are the same,it seems that some people have the gold ,aluminium cased models on both engines and yet some people are getting the new Fadec with all the plugs in the face of the unit with their kero start engines....is there different settings or softwear in the kero start version......

BILLDSRC, I noticed in your photos that you placed your fuel filter between your header tank and the fuel pump. Everything I have read said that the fuel filter should go after the fuel pump before the fuel solenoid, the thought being that the fuel pump can produce tiny debris that can clog the fuel solenoids.
Any thoughts here on the forum as to the proper placement of the fuel filter?

Tom

I had 3 great flights today and the K-80f performed flawlessly!! Tons and Tons of power for this Falcon. The only thing that stinks is we ran out of good weather here in Ohio

I feel your pain. I just got my waiver, and I'm next door in Pittsburgh. Who knows if we'll even get to fly again before the snow starts falling.
