I'll use my camera to record some snow runs with my MT2. It is brand new, and have basically ran 2 tanks of gas on idle and 1 tank at mid to medium range throttle.

you mean the spider gears? you should not have to replace them. just the final gear (big one) and the gear which sits inside the final gear. make sure you shim them correctly. did they come with shims?

If you want the manual to the 18ss (which uses the hardened gear set) go here

If you jump the MT2 with a 2 speed your spurs are going to look like this most of the time.

and whoever stated that anything with a 2 speed will spank the mt with a single speed lies. Here is a vid of me beating my brothers Mammoth ST with a 24.7 motor and 2 speed with my MT1 with OS CV-R and 2WD so I couldn't even get on it as hard as I could have. He might have beat me if we had a longer straight to run.

i said the ****savage xss will beat a mt2ss****

the savage is bad and has a 2 speed which is prolly were u saw it

it has mass torque and high speed..especially when u hear the 2nd gear kick in ur mt's finished

if ur running a single speed mt2 ss

and the savage comes with a stock 2 WHICH CAN BE UPGRADED TO A 3 SPEED

the savage will blow the mt2

also how often do u see a big block with 39,000 rpms? 4.6 cc you would think would have in the lower 30's to upper 20's in rpm status so thats a plus the k4.6 is hpi's best motor in my opinion

has a claimed hp of 2.9@35k rpm

Is there such thing as a 2 speed transmission for the MT2? i just bought mine yesterday and have not even broken in the engine yet, but im reading reviews saying that any nitro vehicle with a 2 speed will work the MT2 over... so i was wondering if there was such an upgrade? Thanks.
Also, I have never seen the Savage X SS in action but from what I hear I would agree it would probably spank an MT. If you ask me, the MT 18ss isn't all that great. The motor isnt that powerful. The 18ss truck itself is awesome though. The motor in the X ss kit on the otherhand is awesome. My buddies 18ss can't touch my MT1 with the CV-R in it.

46u would be the guy to chat to about this. He has both I believe.

Well, all i know is that i owned an ofna pirate 10 from ages ago, and it was a good 4 years old... and with the stock hyper .21 engine it came with and a single speed tranny i beat a revo, savage, Tmaxx with no problem, i clocked my pirate 10 at 97km/h on a 4 km road in front of an 89 toyota 4runner. That's why i wondered about the MT2 with the .15 engine... if the MT2 cannot reach 90km/h i shall through the biggest engine that fits in it so it can.

I think you have a few options if you want to reach that speed. With every option you'll need to have 18ss spec drive train.

First would be running an OS .18 TZ motor. That should be a direct bolt in to the MT2. I'm not sure what gearing it will take to get it to 55mph (90kmh) but it should do it. I'm not sure if the motor has the torque to run REALLY tall gearing to get to that speed. From what 46u has said it has A LOT of power. You could run a 2 speed to give you that lower 1st gear ratio and then use 2nd gear for your top speed.

Then of course you can run a big block but you'll need a big block conversion. These motors will have enough torque to turn over about any gear ration you can manage to fit into the truck. I'd say you could get to 90kmh with a single speed if you want with a big block.

Yes you can use these on the stock rims...or any 2.2inch truck wheel for that matter.

Well, I have never actually raced my MT2 vs my XSS, however I think it would be an interesting test. You're right, the K4.6 motor is absolutely crazy...amazing torque, awesome RPM for top-speed, it really is a killer. However with the .18 CV-R in the MT2 and the tuned pipe AND the fact that it is quite a bit lighter, I reckon it would have a decent chance....

Just from a comparison on how they drive and since I have driven both cars, this is what I would reckon would happen in the drag...

- Off the mark, the Savage would rip the MT2..I mean the thing can pull wheelies on command!
- However I reckon the MT2 would claw it back in the mid-range and would close the distance when it reaches its high RPM, however the minute the Savage hits 2nd gear, the MT2 would be history....

I really want to have a drag between them, however I'm only got one transmitter at the moment. Am going to buy a second one and then I can test this...

Hello people. A few pages back I posted that my MT2 RTR was making a strange noise and that when I went to start the car with the pull start, the car would lunge forward (the wheels were turning when I was pulling the pull start).

Well, tonight I have pulled it apart and have found the problem. My question to you guys is, what did I do wrong?

Here's the gear on the clutch bell:

I took this apart about two weeks ago just to take a look at the clutch, I probably didn't put it back properly because as you can see the gear has eaten into the clutch bell.

This is the gear: Melted!

And here's the clutch, which appears to be a-okay.

I know I've obviously done something wrong, i.e - I've put the gear back in incorrectly, but I'm not sure of how, so if any of you can enlighten me on this, it would be much appreciated.

I don't believe you've actually done anything wrong. I have seen this happen before on an MT2 - the clutch bell breaking in two! The stock bell is pretty weak and won't take a lot of abuse...perhaps if you've had your gear mesh a little out, this may have put some pressure on the CB casing and caused premature wear....

Since the stock bell is now history, I would recommend upgrading to an HPI Heavy-duty steel racing clutch bell (vented) w/ball bearings....
