These nitros can get very tricky to figure out sometimes. I have been running nitro for a few years now and I have my cars mastered but as soon as I get something new it seems like it has its own personality its weird. I get the savage xl today and im keeping the mt2 im so happy the wife is not tho lol

Congrats on the new XL!
I have an assload of tips for you to bulletproof it some.
If I have time tomorrow I will put it all together and shoot you a PM.
But before you even go out to break it in make sure you rig up the engine protector!
I scratched the hell out of my sweet looking 5.9 head on initial tuning after break in.
There was no wheelie involved!!! I blipped the throttle and it was on the lid, with no lid....[:@]

Here's my vid for the engine protector installation.
I'm sure HPI is still sending out the X ones that are too short.

Just charging up the camera pics will be up soon!!!! The truck has one galon of fuel through it he blew the engine and hpi gave him a brand new one after some fighting its still in the box I think I might do some port and crank work to it before I even put it in because snow is going to fly here soon....... a friend of mine has a savage flux hp that he's upgrading I might try to buy his engine and put it into the mt2 just for the hell of it. I really want to get that mt2 going soon either nitro or electric.

Slayer, is that engine protector plactic?

Yup, I forgot you said the XL was used.[&:]

Did you get all the spare parts that came with the XL new?
If so there should be a spare body mount that you can flip upside down to make the rear of the engine protector fit on the longer XL.
The XL should have come with 14mm and 17mm wheel hexes to fit different wheels.

Also comes with diff shims that you will need if you shim the diffs, I HIGHLY recomend shimming the diffs!

Here's the roll bar set.

The body mount is the center bottom of the tree in this.

My XL has become a paypal dispute that is escalating. Luckily its covered by paypal. On a positive note, based on the tracking my second CEN is coming on monday and I have my first one almost ready to drive.

Its sad that the season is ending. Once again I didn't get enough fuel burned.

He shipped it with fuel and coffee and they wouldn't ship it and he has been unresponsive lately. I kind of don't want it now, I have the two CENs, an MGT and bought a nice FLM mid tank savage that long plates that is pretty slick. Plus my X is pretty much brand new so three savages is a bit much. I havn't driven a CEN yet but its one huge beast.

The MT2 is for sale but I don't know if I should sell it as a roller and the engine separate since its brand new and even has the seal on the head.

I know a good seller who has some wicked savage stuff for sale and his prices are good and he is very honest if anyone is interested.

Why would he ship it with coffee?
What engine did you have for the MT2?

He is a coffee brewer and sent me the wrong paypall address three times so he threw coffee in it to make it up to me. I think it sent off a red flag for drugs.
The engine is a G3 - I sold a new one a few months ago and got 90 bucks for it. I have about 2/3 of an MT2 in brand new parts as well and am going to put them up on ebay. The MT2 has new diffs so I was thinking of selling the engine, diffs and the rest of the truck as a parts lot versus the whole truck but have to look at prices to see what its worth.

Yea Im sure thats exactly what happened. That combined with customs.
You might want to try listing it on here too and see if you get any takers before paying the ebay fees

I will try on here but havn't thought too much about it because I have been distracted with work and rebuilding the four trucks that came in recently. Sadly, the MT2 was built brand new in the beginning of the season and didn't have a litre of fuel run through it (with my firestorm G3 engine). I don't really get worthwhile use out of a truck before I move on to something else. I need to be more loyal. I can't see it being driven with the growing fleet and have to cut some loose.

Looks cool. I agree that aluminum knuckles is the way to go and am putting them on all my RCs. No sway bar? I have them on my mt2 and like it. I may try to adapt them to my firestorm.

Now...... whats the next rc that im going to get......... I want something bigger then the savage xl but at the same time dont want to go gas powered like the baja whats bigger then the savage? or is it worth it to go bigger? Do any of you know if you can put a 2 speed pinnion gear on an electric engine? Sorry if thats a stupid question lol I know nothing about electric rc's lol

The HPI Savage 5T or a 1/6th or 1/5th Savage conversion are the only things bigger than the XL non gasser that I know of.
Other than the XTM Monster MT.

I don't know if the Savage 5T is going to be sold in the U.S. tho.

The only truck bigger then the savage xl that I know of is possibly the CEN MT. That savage 5T is only available in Europe though you might be able to find the TVP's and shafts to convert your XL...
Dan4Lc on here sells the KM Baja 5T for a nice price. Hes still testing and posting his findings but it looks good so far.
As for the electric motors, with the new brushless motors there is no need for a 2 speed pinion. Plus with the reverse capability it wouldnt work anyway. I just picked up a Redcat Aftershock 8E with a brushless motor and the power is insane.

Hly crap!!!! that savage is insane looking!!!!! I think it needs a bigger engine tho that looks like the 5.9 right? Now that I have the new savage the weather went to crap..... I want to break it in but I dont think im going to be able to till spring. Slayer I made that engine protector work just how you showed it I took apart the engine and sealed it all up I was going to port and polish it but I think im going to see if the power is enough for me untill I go and do that. When I had it apart it looks like they did do some performance work to the engine from factory just like the os 18 tz. I was going to go bashing today but the wind is gusting up to 45 mph........ I dont like the look of the savage 5t with the body on just like I dont like the slayer or slash.......

I thought I saw the engine protector on there.

Yes, that's the K5.9 in the Savage 5T.

The XTM Monster MT is definitely bigger than the XL.
My friend that owned the LHS had one for his Girlfriend to drive and it seemed like a decent truck.
The body on the XTM covers the bumpers on the XL with the XL body on the truck...

CEN GST 7.7 specs-
Length23.1in. (587mm)

Width18.4in. (467mm)

Wheelbase:15.63in. (397mm)

Ground Clearance:4 in. (111.8mm)

Suspension Travel:5 inch

Savage XL specs measured by me-

LENGTH - 23.5"

WHEEL BASE - 15 1/2" AT AXLES (tires are 7" so 22 1/2" frt. to back w/tires)

OUTSIDE OF TIRES - 17 1/4" WIDE

RIDE HEIGHT - 4" @ CENTER / 3 1/2 @ SKID PLATES

STOCK BODY HEIGHT - 11" ( 9 hole adjustments up to 12 1/4")

So I think with some 40 series Big Joes the XL would be just as big as the GST.

Purple alum is looking good Keith![sm=shades_smile.gif]
