so i went to an actual dirt track today and found out that my truck doesn't have as much get up and go on the low end of the engine that i want it to. my question is whats the best set up for it to have great acceleration from a start(ex- comin out of a turn)? is it to have less teeth on the clutch and more on the spur gear or vise versa?

yes less teeth on the bell gear and more teeth on the spur gear.
But is it becasue the engine doesnt rev up ( geared wrong) or is it because the tires are spinningcoming off the corner.

if the tires are spinning a lot you can do a couple of things do combat this
1. put in a lighter weight shock oil this will allow the rear to squat a little faster there for transfering weight faster.
2. put on a little bit softer tires on the rear.
3. Or be smooth with the throttle in and out of the corner and not put so much throttle into in coming out.
Remember that if the truck cant hook up (spinning the tires) the acceleration will be very slow. You can have the best most powerful engine in the world but if you cant put that power to the ground then it's not worth having the engine.
But if try the gear changes and if the tires spin even more and the acceleration doesnt improve try some of these little tricks

sweet thanks for the tips i will try some of those. you wouldnt happen to know where to look for clutch bells would you. i looked at the place where i got the car and they already have the lowest amount of teeth on the stock bell. right now (stock) in the rtr truck i got, its running a 15 tooth clutch bell and a 46 tooth spur gear. is this an ok ratio?..should i try the other tips first before i go to switchin' the clutch bell?
and the truck is a xtm x-cellerator......and everyone who i ask says to look at hobby people where i got it and i have many many times. the dont offer near as much as i am lookin for.

i need some advice on this subject also.. I have a RC10gt and it has stock gearing and i would really like it to have more low end instead of taking a while to kick in ..
I want speed out of corners what gearing do you recomend??

ok first off rcdriv3r i dont think you could really get more bottom end then that at least on the clutch bell. You could try a much larger spur gear. you could try tower hobbies. But i tried tower and i could not find one. But if you can find a spur gear with a high teeth that will help a lot. But with a .18 i think with the gears the way they are you should have plenty of bottom end and i do mean plenty. Now that i think of it try to lean the bottom end out . It may be that the low speed needle is set to rich try leaning that out. Turn it clockwise 1/8 to 1/4 turn at a time. But the more i think about it i think that the low speed needle is set to rich
But im thinking the rear wheels are spinning to muchand this is an easy way to make this stop or atleast help put the rear shocks and if you have any preload spacers on take them off or put the shock colar up further. this will alow more squat for the rear and it will hook up better.
This lil trick will help. Put the truck on a table or something pick the rear of the truck up and drop the rear from about 3 to 4 inches above the ground then get down and look at the a arms in the rear. The a arms should be level to the chassis if there higher then that could be your tire spinnig problem. if there lower then raise the truck till the a arms are level. if it still does it then you wil have to try some of the other tips i posted earlier.
OK KEEP ON POSTING I WILL HELP YOU IF THIS DOES NOT FIX ANYTHING.

welcome to this site ok you can go on tower hobbies, they have two spur gear there on is a 66 tooth and the other is 64 i dont know what the stock one is if you could teel me i will try to help you out to. But i really need to know the stock gearing numbers to tell you which one to get. And try leaning your low speed needle to a 1/8 to 1/4 turn at a time

If you can afford going to a smaller size/diameter tire this will aid in acceleration. A different diameter tire will affect the rollout of a car. A smaller rollout ratio will give greater acceleration results.
Going with a lightened flywheel will also help acceleration. It will alow the engine to get up to speed faster. This will be a small improvement but it all adds up in the end.

I also just thought about this is your tires glued to the rims. If not the wheels will spin inside of the tires which will dramatically reduce acceleration. If there not glued this could be your problem just take some super glue (now some will say super glue is not strong enough) and apply it to the outside of the wheels and the tires and then wait for i don't know 20 minutes or so then try it out. I don't know how much power the engine on the xcellerator puts out but it's a .18 and it should have some good power if it's not the wheels spinning inside the tires then again try leaning out the low speed needle.
I hope we soon find out what we can do to get you accelerating faster soon
But i like this it makes me think (which i dont often do) lol

lol im glad my problems give people something to do
but ya the stock tires which im running now are glued and i got some other tires that i glued also, so i dont think its that, but thanks for lookin at this situation from all angles.

Check your slipper clutch as well, i was having issues with my rush, it simply was not hooking up on any surface. i then realized the engine was revving, but the tires weren't spinning. i took a look at the slipper pad when i got it back in the house, and it was completely glazed and worn down. i got a new pad and it fixed it. try that too

i drove my rc10gt at a hard packed motocross track today and it really was very slow. taking real long to kick in and no acceleration at all.. I will be trying different gearing but i need it to kick in faster..
lightend flywheel = wont it make it hard to keep a good idle..

hey kemo, this is the only way i can hopefully get a hold of you. anyways my question is what web site did you buy your crowd pleazer body and the wing that came with it. i looked at the pro-line site but they didnt have anything that looked like that. if you could point me in the right direction that would be appreciated. oh and would i have to change my shock tower or bulkhead in order for the body to fit right?
