Of course with a pattern or any plane for that matter you never really know how it flies until you get 30 or 40 flights on it.

Great job Shawn!

Ken, I always liked it too. I just can't tell Shawn that or it will go to his head.....

Pretty much the last task to be completed. Unfortunately it's a slow process, fitting the wing struts. The good news is this really only has to be done once. When the fit is perfect, I will trim the molds to match so they will come out of the molds the perfect length and curvature.

OK Shawn..... You're on my black list..... You left the aileron servos sticking out of the wing. LOL Just on of my pet peeves and I alway change them to buried in the wing when building or refurbing an air frame.. It's actually OK. I'll let you slide by this ONE time only. LOL

She likes me more!

Great news, she flies!! Some tuning is needed of course but looking very promising. Second flight even had a knife edge loop. It's flying very true. The rudder power is amazing. Looking forward to getting it dialed in.

Now you're really on my black list. You have green grass.... I have snow! LOL

The Divergent looks very nice! It really pops in the sunshine. You are going to enjoy that plane. Keep us posted on the trimming process. It will be interesting!

Hello Shawn

I followed building since the beginning.
Awesome job.
How many hours of work did this construction require ?

Claude, I estimate from beginning to flight around 300 hours. I should have kept track but it may sit better with the wife if I don’t LOL

Speed - I've been lurking here in the past and have been away from the thread for a few weeks (before paint). KILLER! Everything looks 100% top notch to me and WOW - I love your paint scheme - especially the lines which I find quite unique and a WELCOME divergence from the flowy lines we usually see! How is the tuning/trimming coming?

Our family has enjoyed the film series of the same name as this plane - will you follow this effort with "Insurgent" and "Allegiant"?

William, the trimming process is going a bit slow. I don't have much opportunity to get to the field right now and I am really taking my time thinking out changes. The CG is pretty much locked in so I am working on throws right now. I think it needs a little more positive incidence on the lower wing. Next time out with have that change and some lateral balance correction. I am trying my best to keep the changes one or two items at a time but with some practice I feel I would be competitive in advanced as it sits.

There may may be a monoplane version in the works late this year.

Claude, my numbers are almost exactly the same. I currently have some up elevator trim and in knife edge the airplane has a slight pull to the canopy. My thinking is that either the bottom wing needs more + incidence or I am still more CG forward then I realize. Maybe even a combination of the two.

The Divergent was flown in its first contest yesterday. I wish I were able to say I placed better then 4th out of 4 in the AMA advanced class. The Divergent flew well but while building it I neglected my need for practice. So armed with 10 flights total on the airplane which of only 4 were runs through the sequence, I showed up to 10 mph winds blowing opposite then normal direction and flew my best. The Divergent performed well and with more practice I feel I can do much better next time around. Next contest is June 2-3, stay tuned.

Well, at least you didn't come in last place..... Wait, you did!! Did you get the incidence straightened out? You have a few weeks, you need to get 30 flights on it. You need to get comfortable with the plane and get the feel of how it reacts. The plane can win, you just need to get it trimmed and get used to how it flies.

By the way, its still ugly.

Shawn, what did the flying weight end up? Did you make your goal?

According to my bathroom scale, it is over 11 lbs however a couple of the guys who carried it to the runway on Saturday claim it felt light. I have to get access to a decent scale to know for sure. I do know I can do a lighter fuselage and the airplane flies light and has unlimited vertical.

Shawn, I got you covered on a scale. Chris is going down Thursday to race at Woodland Davis. He will be in your area from Thursday to Sunday. I told him to bring his scale. Get ahold of him between now and Thursday morning to make arrangements.

I’ve got Friday off so I may just meet up with him at WDA then. May be too busy for me to fly but can still get an accurate weight and see some semi fast airplanes

I’m just about to start the second day of a pattern competition. This is what it is all about! Check the points spread after the second round! Still anyone’s game for 2-4 place. The third round made the point spread a little larger but it is still very close. I will report back tonight with final results.

Not bad Shawn, Looks like you are flying for second place, since its going to be kind of hard to catch the guy with 3 perfect scores...............
Looking good.
