I really wish you good luck with it, but the mental image of that monster stuck wide open is something special.

Maybe it's just me but I don't see the ST-2300 as that much overkill on this airplane ,
no more than a YS 1.60 on some 2 meter ships. This IS a large airplane. Eric Henderson
flew a Quest 90 with a 1.40 on it for awhile and from what I read it flew real well.
If you read the assembly manual from Global they recommend using a 1.20 engine and
the ST-2300 is a 1.40 . Personally I would rather have too much power than not enough.

Bob,

I have a few sets of the HD Dubro pull pull setups, however, I'm game for a pack of 50.
Somebody must have a contact at Dubro.

I'm with you on the tank position, I'll use the stock location, also.

I can't wait to hear the first flight report, it's gonna' be sweet!

Is there such a thing as too much power? As long as you don't exceed a feasable wing load, I'd much rather have the extra power.
Heck, I'm the guy with a OS BGX-3500 in a Midwest Super Stearman

I love this hobby!!!

Yeah, Ken. We just have to have VERY reliable throttle setups when we choose to do this. I'm even kicking around an on board "kill valve" to pinch off the fuel line....maybe it's just my paranoia.

Sweet!

Hey, I'll start checking around on mechanical valves that could be operated with a micro servo.

Maybe someone makes an electrical valve that could be operated from a spare channel

Like I said, I love this hobby!!!

Bob,

Fourmost product # 142 looks promising, typically used as a fuel flow control, it also has a shut-off position.
Hmmm...

Found an email addr for Dubro... [email protected] (duh) Sent them an email about the control takeoffs for p/n 880, and 867 (they both use the long black plastic/nylon thingies we need, for 6-32 screw threads).

Maybe ya'll want to deluge 'em with requests??????

Below is the message I sent last June.
I could not locate the last reply where they refused to sell them, but I did notice 2 names in the messages.
Connie
G ayle

I don't know if Dubro cares enough to respond BUT it sure won';t hurt to gang up on them & at least let them know there are people interested. As I see it -they are already making the product and I don't think many of us are willing to buy the complete package just to get the 1 part -so this is lost sales for them.

Today was "tunneling" day. After measuring, and cutting out the tunnel, 1/16" balsa sides were installed with grain vertical. They are glued to the edges of the cutout section of the belly pan, and along the full length of the wing. Then sealed with thin epoxy. The canister shown is the KS #76-4, it weighs about 5.7 oz, and will be installed exactly on CG, connected to the Mueller header. This is not a tuned system, but the ST will not need boost in this application.

If anyone wants to make a pretty quiet, and VERY cheap "muffler", canister-style that would work wonderfully in the Excelleron, I have info on "how to" here on my website;
[link=http://www.rcaerobats.net/Making_Quiet.htm]Making Mufflers[/link]

I've made a couple, and they work pretty well, and are sure CHEAP enough....

Bob,
None of the picutres are showing up on this post. They do on your earlier posts, but not here.

EDIT: Now they are working!?

Looks real good Bob. Nice work.
I will undoubtedly do something similiar for the TT 120 I will put in my Excelleron 90. I received an email saying mine has shipped.

Best regards,
Bill

need to get you guys input ,i fly a excelleron with a ys 110 it is a really smooth bird, which makes me want to get another one for a back up. the problem is I have a ys 140L that needs to be used. do you guys think that is too much for the excelleron 90? and if not what mount do you recommend if not the stock one? thanks Dan

dbweber,

The YS 140L (34oz w/muffler) would be a good match for the Excelleron, and 8oz lighter as compared to the ST2300 installation.

Possible Prop -> APC 17x8N @ 8500 rpm, 20% nitro

My opinion - the 140L hits a lot harder, and has a lot higher amplitude vibration pulse than the 110. I've watched many of them really torque over the Hyde mount, and this doesn't have a Hyde mount. If you ran a Hyde mount, I'm not sure (in fact seriously doubt) that it would fit properly in the nose, IF you could mill all the hardwood beams off.

Also, a 17" means longer gear. 16" is the longest that will work on the stock gear, and that is iffy, only if you fly paved surface.

Hopefully someone will chime in that has 4c experience on this airframe with some suggestions.

I think you'll be very disappointed with that engine in that sized airframe.

Guys how many classes do you think this plane can be flown in and win?

Probably all of them.

Winning takes more than just a well designed and trimmed plane. A Quique or Chip or Jason can whip 99% of everybody by flying with a Kaos, so skill has some small part to play too.

I'll let you know about Masters. I have a pretty good record in it with my Arresti. The AIRPLANE is quite capable. Will there be a "bias" from the judge's chair? THAT we won't know for awhile.

Bob,
I guess Eddie and I are probably two of the few who have flown the Excelleron in
competition so I'll give my opinion . I don't think there should be any size bias from
any "fair" judges. When the Excelleron is sitting on the ready line next to full 2 meter
ships you can see the small size difference but when it's in the air it's very hard to
tell the difference , it presents very much like a 2 meter airplane.
