Greg, can you post a photo of how you did the pipe? Which header/pipe did you use?

Thanks

Flew today, the spoilers are dead on. Love it. Had 1-2 mph winds today and it slowed to a crawl, had to keep power on. Just like I like it.

Thanks......

Hi guys I too am building a Venus 2 with a OS120 and Dx7 combo, my question is has anyone had any experiance with those servos that came with the DX7? I don't know if it's worth chancing or not. I have looked through this thread and didn't hear anything about anyone using those servos that came with the DX7,and because I am a Futaba guy the whole Spectrum thing is new to me. I will say that it has worked great on my helis and I do like the feel of the radio and also the reponce but I would use my 9c with receiver and servos in a heartbeat if I heard any problems with Spectrum radio or servos. Thanks for any info and great job to all who have builded took pictures and flown the Venus . I will post some pics when completed maybe even a video. Thanks again and great flying guys.

Good quote.

Actually I have been living off and on over the last 15 years in a small Inuit Village 400 miles above the Arctic Circle and the changes here over that time have been unbelieveable. I have come to the conclusion that there is no place left on earth to escape the absolutely unbelieveable atrocities of Mankind []

This is one of the reasons I like the R/C hobby. For a short period of time all these problems disappear. There is nothing I like better than arriving early at the field and being all alone ( at least for awhile ). Sometimes I just sit in the van and enjoy the peace and quiet with just friends like this to share the moment with.

I'll bet it's fun to sit and watch those 20-40 size rabbits.

It's even more fun to try and catch a 120-160 giant scale one like this guy did!

Can not find any reference to muffler clearance issues in this thread. Using template for diagonal mounting of OS .91 FX in the Venus ll, muffler does not clear exhaust/muffler cut out. Since this muffler is 1 1/2 inches longer than .61, suspect additional clearance was not planned. Seems my choices are: increase cut out, add muffler extension or move engine up. Anyone run into this?

WOW, I just ran into the same problem over the weekend !! I was thinking of clearing out some of the fuse to fit the pipe.

That's what I just ordered to make the ultrathrust muffler work. Now I need to patch the hole in the bottom of the fuse.

i cut some off the bottom of the fuse so the only thing hanging out the bottom is the muffler exit. if you us the extension, the whole muffler hangs out the bottom of the cowl.

Don, I went back to post #134 and looked again at your header/flexpipe set-up. I am going to rearrange my engine to that configuration because the current set-up, with the angled engine, is just plain fugly.[] An airplane that flies this well deserves better.

I ordered the flexpipe (120mm) and the insider header, and I am wondering what you used for that bracket between the flexpipe and the muffler, and what the black piece is made of. Looks like it might be a CF tube used to drain the crankcase vent.

BTW I added some more weight to the tail, for less push when inverted, and there is now a little pull to the gear on KE which I will have to mix out. I figure that for pattern we spend a lot more time inverted than on KE anyway, so I'd rather have it more pilot-friendly in that attitude. What inspired me to do it was my practicing of slow point rolls. I was so tough to get it to roll smoothly to inverted because it required so much push on the stick to keep it level.[&o] Anyway, my CG is now around 6-7/8".

First of all Bob if your not using a pump you should lower the tank. I got in there with a dremel tool and removed all but a small amount of the former that it sits on. I also removed a bit around the sides which allowed me to turn the tank 90 degrees. I also opened up the bottom of the hole in the firewall. All in all I lowered the top of the tank about 1/2" or so. Mine idles a bit rough for about 1 min. but causes no problems at all and will idle at about 1800 after a flight.

The brackett you see is just a simple old plastic strap used to fasten electrical BX cable on the wall. It can be bought at any hardware store. I also used a small piece of silicone tubing around the pipe to act as a vibration type mount for the flex pipe / muffler. The black tube is just a piece of light plastic tubing. My theory is that the vent line if it is over 6" long does not work properly because of the - & + pulses from the engine unless it is large tubing. So I just route the fuel tubing into this larger tubing. Maybe I don't need it, but I feel better.

I will be home in less than 2 weeks to get back at mine again I'm returning "up here" end of Sept - March and then I'm positive I'm fully retiring to play with my planes. I'm considering doing another Venus II with a YS 110 next year. I have 3 other YS's and other than needing 3 times the maintenace of others the power to weight is addictive

Thanks for the info, Don.

Still thinking about lowering the tank. Running the angled version now with no flooding issues, and rotating it to fully inverted will lower the carb only a few millimeters... but then that may be the tipping point that makes it flood... Hmm, well it isn't that huge of a job to Dremel out those formers. Lowering the tank won't hurt in any event.

Bob I never tried it with the stock tank height. It maybe just fine. I just thought it would be easier to do before I had everything together. Are you buying a new cowl ?

Don, yes I also ordered the new cowl along with the inside header and flex pipe.

Since I will have to remove the tank to re-drill the firewall for the engine mount, I might just go ahead and lower it while I've got it all disassembled.
