I don't really want to move the tank to the CG I just need a replace tank for the original.

Look for a Tettra tank, at central hobbies.

The 14oz tettra tank is nice. it is longer than the stock tank so you will need to fabricate something a little different to hold it in than what you had with the stock tank, but not a big deal. Also  the neck and stopper is different so you might have to ream out the hole in the firewall? Not sure about that part...

Great pic.
The venus sure is a great flying plane. I had mine with a ys110 and now with a 120ax and I really like how it handles on rolling maneuvers.

I like the Venus, always wanted one, mine also has the 120 AX and a 10x8 APC, new engine, still running rich, I plan on getting some more time on it this weekend.

A 10x8??? I hope that's a type-o!

I broke my two in with a 15x8 and switched to a 15x10 and 16x8.

How are the bearings on your ax doing? My ax bearings are making some noise, and I can feel a little roughness. Common issue on the ax for what I can read here on RCU. I will change them to prevent a broken cage.
Anyway the engine screams with the pipe setup.

My 120AX seemed like the bearings were getting rough too a year ago. I was not sure if it was normal or a problem. I continued to run it and it turns out it was normal. since then i have put another 1000 flights on it and no further damage. I think they just broke in normally, and that is what I was seeing. Some roughness on the bearings is normal. The engine is showing no signs of failure or worsening of bearings at all, and continues to run flawlessly. Its just the nature of the beast, and its a very reliable beast at that!! I reccomend continuing unless they get much worse. As it stands the 120AX is the most reliable engine i have ever had period!! I have only replaced glow plugs (2 replace met plugs in over 2500 flights). If the engine seems to idle rough all of a sudden for no reason, replace the plug and you are good as new!

2500 flights!!! thats a lot of flying time on a engine. You are 100% right, this is by far the most reliable 2 stroke engine that I have used, not a single death stick or any other bad habit. The thing is that I had a bearing failure with a 50sx and it cost me the engine, and I really don´t want to risk this engine. Beside a good set of bearings aren´t expensive.
Probably change them is not needed, but I just don´t want to be worried.

Thanks for the info.[sm=thumbs_up.gif]

I've got 2 ea. 120 ax now and I had another one, so I have owned 3 of the 120 AX. The first one started acting up after 1.5 years, I put after run oil in it religiously but Tower said I abused it and refused to fix it under warranty. I still love the engine, since I bought 2 more, but be prepared if something goes under warranty not to have it fixed under warranty, even if you put after run oil in it and run the fuel out, etc.

That was a typo earlier, it has a 15x8 prop on the new 120 AX, I see no reason to add a pump, the 120 AX is a beast on the Venus II, unlimited vertical it can even do knife edge loops easily.

Chuck,

Got some questions to try to see if other factors might be at work on your AX problems. What brand fuel, nitro, etc have you used in the AX? What kind of problems did you encounter? Where do you store your plane between outings and during the winter (garage, basement, 1st or 2nd floor living space, near open windows, etc)?

thanks
cod

I use cool power 15% or 20% pro pattern and fly all year, no storing of the plane for 6 months, etc. I run the fuel out of the plane then add after run oil.

Tower blamed it on rusted bearings, which seems to be everyone's excuse and refused to fix it under warranty. I store my planes in the garage, but I fly almost every weekend all year around.

The fact that you keep it running would lead me to beleive you keep the moisture from building up. I know allot of people keep thier planes in the garage, but possibly the availability of more moisture in the garage could be causing the issue. I had a 4 stroke engine (not the AX120) I kept in a porch with solid closed-in walls all the way around, but with a door leading outside, which i would go in and out of every day. I had rusted bearings. It did sit though for a month though un-run. One trick i do now is after a day or so i hit the engine with a hot hair dryer long enough to get the block so hot i cannot touch it. then i spin the prop over and over to get air into the hot engine. I think it steams out any moisture that builds up during the first day or so. I also now keep my plane in a 2nd floor living spoace. So far no return of rust.

Hi,

I've just finished testing various props on my Webra .91 which i plan on installing in my Venus II.

Which of the following props would give the most success in Sportsman's Pattern?

APC 14x8 10,231

APC 14x10 9,428

APC 15x6 10,302

MAS S2 15x6 10,706

APC 15x8 9,191

XOAR 15x8 9,074

APC 16x6 9,096

Those figures were all recorded with 5% nitro. There's room for some improvement if i increase the nitro to 15%.

You will have to try a few and see what works best for you.

With my 4-stroke I like a 10 pitch prop, but with a 2-stroke I drop to an 8 pitch prop. If my 2-stroke didn't lag when spooling up the 10 pitch I would use it.

I think someone here talked about using a 6 pitch but personally I like a little more speed than that. Most 'pattern' props are high pitch.

I saw one fly with the OS 1.20 surpass - seemed to fly very well, and will let you put tank on CG. Nice combo. I've been flying mine with the JR DS821 servos all around, except for a mini on throttle. Has been just fine with that setup.

I know there's a few people out of Omaha that fly pattern. I used to remember the club but can't now. Old age i guess.
I've seen a few of the Venus II's in Sportsman and intermediate. They fly good. I do have one of own but have never taken it out of the box. I have flown someone elses with a YS120 and another with the 120AX and they both flew good.

I compete and fly Sportsmans. I have been getting a lot of second place finishes and it's certainly not the plane's fault.
