RE: Ultra Rc Evolution
Well, this is a new plane and I don't think anyone has one finished yet. So I think weight will be hard to say. Its been said that 10 and 1/4lbs is what the glow version will weigh.
As for engine. If I was running glow it would be the os 140rx. The cheapast motor would be the os 160fx probably.
I am going to put an Axi 5330/F3A brushless in mine with a Jeti 90. The measurement on the fuse will be approx 78 and a half inches or a little less. The wing is a two piece, so easy to transport.
I will run all Airtronics digitals in mine, including the 94761 tiny digitals on ailerons.
If you don't mind me asking, what's your budget? I know someone with a plane for sale. Plus I may be talked out of my new electric patriot that I haven't flown yet if the price is right.

RE: Ultra Rc Evolution
Hey, Chris
I got my (2) today, will start on it this weekend.
Got to order some mini Hitec5245 digitals for the stab, one per half.
It looks good, Man I hate the canopy.

RE: Ultra Rc Evolution
Hey Jarvis..
I'll most likely paint my canopy.. Glad to hear you got a few. Doesn't suprise me any!!
So it takes mini digitals for the elevators??
Cool. I'll be running the airtronics 94761's back there also. No DEPS... HOORRAAYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know when I will get to build them yet as I'm recovering Vic's badly damaged and fuel soaked Focus for him. And putting a removable canopy off of a focus 2 on it.. Well, i guess that makes it that I'm also rebuilding it for him. Probably shoulda just got a black magic and built it for him. Would have been easier and he would have a much better plane.
OK, well he does. One of these Evolutions is for him. Yeah, I'm building it too. Shouldn't I get paid to do this kinda stuff???? LOL
I guess I like to take a good beating!! haha
How's the new job?
Are you going to Gardnerville? I don't think I am. Probably use the weekend for something good like building my new plane..

Hey Chris
Will not , make Gardnerville, I have to work that weekend. But Jim and Joe will be there.
I should be ready for Hemet at the end of Aug. I'll be at Carter's contest .
Did you, get your evolution's today?.

RE: Ultra Rc Evolution
Hey Chris
My bad, the stab take's standard size servos.
An for me that's not going to work, will install the MK kit.
The 3/16 wire landing gear, got to go. I need to mount a ply plate for the
bolly gear, and the wing tube is not installed, an the reason being is that you can adjust
the CG, to fit the engine that you are going to use.
The wings are keep in place the same way that the ABBRA wings are .

RE: Ultra Rc Evolution
Your kidding. The wing tube isn't installed?? Reason being so that you can put the cg where, what? Seems to be a little cheaper to produce that way, eh??
I saw that the stab tube didn't look like it was installed in a pic somewhere.
I thought this was an arf?? LOL
I will probably use a mk bellcrank this time. I'm tired of DEPS systems after doing 3 this year. Plus I will probably need the tailweight as I will use the axi.. Maybe even go with the two airt servos as together they would weigh maybe an ounce and a half plus wires. We'll see..
WIRE landing gear? Are you kidding? It's not wire in the pics I got from Bryan?
Tell me your kidding..

RE: Ultra Rc Evolution
If they are carbon tube landing gear instead of wire, that is the same approach used in the UltraRC Giles 29% ARF. From the pictures I saw of the Giles, it looked pretty light but distributed landing loads across and thru the fuselage pretty well. Each tube was supported in three places in the fuselage.

RE: Ultra Rc Evolution
Interesting. I'll see tomorrow.
Don't know if Vic can handle anything like this, but I'm up for weight savings!!
Thanks for the info Don.
Flown the Brio yet?

RE: Ultra Rc Evolution
Unfortunately, I have been distracted by other projects not involving the Brio but did get back to work on it yesterday. Need a couple more days of steady progress and it should be ready for a test hop. (hopefully)
The reason I mentioned the carbon tube landing gear assembly for the Giles was because I was considering retrofitting the carbon tubes into the Brio since I had to totally redo the landing gear structure anyway. Since it had been very poorly installed initially, I decided to tear it out and redo it, moved the whole structure down an inch to give me more prop clearance anyway. I chickened out on the carbon tubes because I have not seen one in use yet and I didn't have time to pioneer something new.

RE: Ultra Rc Evolution
Hey Chris
So you are going with the Axi motor 5330, I'm going glow.
The OS140, is in the Top Star 140, so I'm going to be using the OS160FX for power.
Does anyone know, the set up that Ryan McLaugin used to win Masters. I do know that the
engine he use was an OS160

RE: Ultra Rc Evolution
My main choice is the axi Jarvis, but I'm thinking of trying the Himax to see what the difference is. If it doesn't work, I have several other planes I can put it in, so I won't really lose out on anything but time. We'll see. Haven't decided yet.
You should get another 140rx. I wouldn't bother with a 160. Look at all the problems you've had with them. Your 140 was running sweet man!!
Mine run's perfect again after I replaced the rod. Nice to have that reliability!!

RE: Ultra Rc Evolution
I helped Ryan set it up. I'm doing a "cookbook" article for the K-Factor on it. I've set up 5 myself, and helped Ryan and Joe Walker with theirs. All run identical, tons of power, even in the hot Muncie climate when os 140s were gasping. Basic info:
OS 1.60
Perry VP-30 pump
Mueller header
Aeroslave pipe.
More in the article!

LOL.
My 140 doesn't gasp at 115. How hot is Muncie?

RE: Ultra Rc Evolution
Yikes. I used to live in Indiana, also in Michigan. I know it's a different kind of heat for sure! I guess I forget how it is though!!
Anyway, my weights on 2 of the evolutions are identical within a few grams on everything.
Here's a basic rundown..
Fuse 1067 g Fuse 2 1073g
Wing L 322g Wing L 332g
Wing R 329g Wing R 340g
Stab L 91g Stab L 88g
Stab R 90g Stab R 90g
Cowl 144g Cowl 148g
Wing tube 54g
Stab tube 10g
Landing gear with struts 75g
Wheel pants 31 g each
There is also a hardware package for the glow and a few additional parts for the electric which I won't use I don't think.
So around 2250 grams bare.
Both of mine arrived with holes in the boxes, one sorta crushed. No damage to either plane that I have seen so far. Only a little damage probably at the factory to one stab tip. Looks a little crushed. Not sure if I'll ask for a replacement yet.
Quality of the fuse is pretty good. I'm impressed with all the work they put into it to make it lighter.
Quality of the wings are ok. Coulda used a sanding before covering. Still not bad.
Fiberglass and paint work is really good. Except for the crooked cutouts for the chin cowls.
One of the canopies doesn't fit to the angle at the back and there is about 1/4 or more of a gap at the top. Speaking of the canopy, it is the real thin stuff. Take that how you want to. My opinion is thicker adds more weight so it's probably not so bad.
I won't be painting it now.
I like the way it attaches to the fuse.
Soo.....
Yes I am very pleased with it and I am a fairly particular builder. It's as good as any other arf I've seen on the market. I am very suprised at how big the fuse is. Nice!!
So, if you have been waiting to order for weights. Git-r-dun!!!!
Looks good Bryan, I'll take another outta the next batch!!
