Hi Jason,
My bad - was not there but was given it that way.
Anyway I think the time-line that I detailed for Scott is pretty close - didn't look any of it up though.

Was just about to press the 'OK' on this reply last night when we got a power outage (no modem) due to another big storm.
Anyway we did ,right up to a few weeks ago, have a team traveling - perhaps not our 'A' team but a full team.
Then one guy had to drop out for 'personal' reasons just a couple of weeks ago.
Coincidentally another of the guys had some 'unforeseen' stuff going on.
It was a case of dominoes after that.
As you know it is a big trip.
We get very little funding from our NGB - enough to pay the entry fee + a good meal.
The guys traveling have to fund themselves so we don't have helpers or mechanics traveling.
Therefore our team rely on each other for help and assistance. This puts the dominoes closer together.
I can't, and wouldn't anyway, speak about the reasons behind the reasons for the individuals involved.
I can say that things here in Ireland are tough financially. We are at the moment of peak impact of an 'AUSTERITY' programme.
Also last summer and autumn were a wash out and nobody has done much flying so far this year either.
So some people declined the initial team place offer after our team trials were over.
I was one of those and the above is my story.
My business came to a shuddering halt just before Christmas.
Whatever the reasons it is a real pity as we have been represented at every World Champs for the last 30+years and at quite a few before that.
Also Bob Skinner was of tremendous assistance when we ran a WC's here in 2001.

Hi, can anyone point me to any pictures of gas motor silent/anti vibe mounts made into a fully molded f3a fuselage , I have a few ideas but as always there is no point in reinventing the wheel.
To explain a little I am in the process of restoring a ZN Line Majestic which was set up with a HACKER motor, the thought of limited flight times and cost of multiple sets of batteries has led me to compare the usually power plant the YS 160\170 and the new DLE 35RA . The weight of the motors is very near and from personal experience in a sport airframe the DLE unpiped can drive a 19*11 mezjlik at 7200 with ease so power seems very close. Plenty of options for a quite exhaust system exist and as I can sell the second hand hacker for a new DLE this experiment won't hurt the pocket.
Now with all the repairs on the airframe I don't see it reaching a competition weight limit but it should sure be a fun aeroplane to fly and practice pattern with.
Any pointers would be gratefully received.
Rob

Rob, I don't know if [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=11009081]this[/link] is what you are looking for, or if it is the best place to start. However search RCU posts by MTK and keywords SOFT MOUNT and DERIVATIVE and you will find a lot of info and photos.

you know I have "thick skin" some would say a Thick HEad
I value all oppinions I just might not agree LOL
But, There is no way for you to have the understanding of the in`s and Out`s of FAI rule making. or even make a dent in the decisions. Hell we can`t even get the rule changed in the AMA CLass in our own country.
My Ideas before I flew FAI and became involved in World Class level events Pail in comparison of what I knew, and What I thought I knew about FAI, the "BEAUTIFUL GAME" This is truely and Professional class. These Guys have been involved at the Micro level of F3A longer than we have been around. The History of the rules gives us Guide lines to follow. The Passion and Obsession to manage this sport is more than a trend or passing fad. We get more complaints about the weight rule from guys that do not participate in FAI than from those who do, there is no reason for that.
I remember My first FAI Nats in 94-95 or so I finished 25 out of 50 I think, and din`t know why I scored so low,I was competitive in the local contest.
However I met a new Standard, and a New knowledge, a New level of Passion , and new Perfection. So I accepted my Beatdown, adjusted my thoughts ,and strived to rise to the new level of play I never knew existed!
I became a better builder , flier, I Learned the rules. It streched me to think of doing things I never thought I could, it gave me motivation, and ambition. all that only got me to as High as 7`th place in the US NAts. and a few top 10`s. However the knowledge I learned on the Chase Helps me to teach Guys aspiring to be Better Fliers today.
I complained about not being able to make weight ,thought the rules were Dumb ,and of no reason as well. Then I learned to be a better builder /designer and have gone on to design 20+ airplanes trying to learn from each one how to do it better lighter ,stronger. There were Many Failing, Crashes, Devorce threats (not really)
But in the End I created new way to do things ,and have a much better understanding as to why Rules Exist. It will bring the best out of you in the end,and make the sport better for it in the long run.
I`m not saying your a Rookie because your not ,But just because you can`t understand why something is being done and no one can define if for you does not mean there is no reason for it. Players with History in the Sport ,Thankfully! still steer the Rules and Direction of F3A. the Standards alone have made it a Fair game , the Standards have drove Electric to be Competitive. The Slow Movement of Change has made F3A As stable and Professional as it is today.
F3A Is not for Every one , The fact that AMA chooses to mirror Our standards ,,Thats on them, But History teaches us ,it`s a pretty safe bet.

Bryan and I touched bases somehow
How do we post photos and videos?
#288

Matt,
Click on 'go advanced'
There is a 'Your Message' box.
In this, near the top there are 3 tool bars.
In the top tool bar on the right side there is an attachment icon - click this.
There are a couple of steps after that - there self explanatory.

On the other hand, it's a wheel and it is always turning. Besides, when you are on the bottom, there is only one direction things can go....Here we are 6 months after your post and we are finally beginning to see the uptick in the economy here in NE US. I hope the same is true in Ireland and the rest of Europe.
Except my native country, Greece, is still in dire straights.....

Hi Matt,
Thanks for the kind words.
I was in Greece once only - honeymoon.
The people there were beauty-full.
Ireland has two economies - a domestic one and we are a hub ,in Europe, for hi-tech multinationals as we are in the Euro zone and english speaking.
The multinational thing is going well and gives some employment but they are on tax breaks and the real money involved is not in our economy.
The domestic scene is not good here at all - just about at the bottom and likely to bounce along there for quite some time to come.
However nobody died.
The only difference that I can see between us and Greece is that we quickly realised that the party was over and we swallowed the hangover pill straight away - the hangover just gets worse otherwise.
Brian

Matt,
This is not really the forum for this but I'll say it anyway as it applies to us in the RC community.
This crash is only round one.
We in the 'developed' countries have bought into a new economic model ;
We print borrowed money.
We then send it to the 'developing' countries in exchange for cheaply produced consumables.
We consume them .
'They' keep the money.
Then ???

Hi sorry for interogating, this is supposed to be a serious subject on F3A but I read some comments about Greece. Matt whenever you come by please give shout to go and fly.
Despite the recession we can still fly our little models in places like that. I don't have the time fly F3A as much but at some point I will start flying at this place. It is great!
