Hey Guys-Can someone tell me of a source for metric wing/tubes (alum. or carbon, I'm just a "Sunday flyer) that will fit a "Shinden"-I'm just now starting to assemble a new "Shinden" that I bought "Way/Back" & the OEM tube is junk, oval shaped & fat in the middle, it would take a hammer to install it-I would like to start with a "Round & Straight" tube & then I will deal with the wing & fuse sockets-Best I can tell, its supposed to be 28mm Dia.-Please correct me if I'm wrong-
Thanks
Ed

Hey tande,
I believe Troy Built Models sells wing tubes that are the same as the Shinden.

I spoke with Bryan (the designer) today, and he said he doesn't know of anyone who sells the 28mm tubes. Worse comes to worse, he said you should e-mail XTreme composites (manufacturer) and see if you can work something out.

Any chance of some firm in the USA importing the Shinden again? Sure is a nice airplane and I'd like to be able to get another one.

mjfrederick , thanks so much for your interest-at this point I may try "Wrapping" a 25mm tube, thats only 1.5mm on a side-nothing to lose but the cost of a tube-
Thanks Again

From what I understand a deal is being worked out. I'm sure Bryan or the other parties involved will post something once a deal is struck.

Yes!! Thanks Matt,
I am working on importing Extreme Composites products with a New local Company
We are hammering out the details as we speak
The Shindens have been refined for a ready to fly weight of about 10.2 onces
the Prolines have been lightened up as well
and we will have other airplanes not avialable before in the US.
keep your fingers crossed.

On the wing tube ,,, Sorry I don`t know of anywhere you can get a replacement tube at ths time ,,
I know some of the first ones I recieved were substandard,,\
However they have been refined along with the landing gear problems we had early on.

I`m currently building a Shinden with Brandon Landy<winner of the Advanced Class at the 08 Nats> the wings are 340 grams Each
the stabs together are 240 grams with both carbon tubes and the the fuse with the Canopy, chin rudder attached is 1250 grams
this is the lightest one I`ve recieved to date My last one was 10.5 pounds ready to fly with a 1.7 glow setup it was pretty light but they have them refined much better now.
However there will be a little price hike But replacement parts will be Cheaper ,,,I Hope LOL ,,one last sticking point,,,
So,stay tuned Guys

Designer of the Shinden, Quest, Patriot3-D ,Patriot 2, Patriot ,Extreme, Patriot, Storm 4ls, Storm Limited ,Storm Ex Storm 4-s ,Storm-2 ,among others I probably forgot<G>

Anyone know what surface or line on the Shinden would make a good zero line? I'd like to check and adjust incidences (stab) but not sure what to use as a reference?

Use the Canopy base as the zero line.
look back on this thread for all information needed to trim this airplane

What are the best wing adjusters for the Shinden? Gator?

Looks like I need them. Got around to checking main wing incidence Starboard wing is .39 degree, but port wing is .92, both referenced to the canopy base.

sgsterling, bryan is currently in portugal, so ill tell you what i know about the shinden as i fly one and practice with bryan every weekend....

Is your shinden a later or earlier batch? One of the wing fillets on the earlier mods of the shinden was slightly off (so dont align according to the wing fillet), but that had been fixed after the first batch or two. What incidence meter are you using? just curious...

for set up- yes gators should be fine. The shinden flies very well with .5 pos in the wings and cg on leading edge of wing tube;however, i realize set up is personal preference. This is the set up i flew at the nationals and it worked great. PM me if you need anything else, i dont believe bryan will be around a computer for the next 2 weeks. Hope this helps...

I think it is from the 2nd batch, but not sure. I got it last year from another person that had it for a while. Unknown how long.

I used the trig method to find wing incidence, then back-checked with a laser incidence meter (less resolution), so am pretty confident of my numbers.

Unfortunately, as of 11am this morning, the issue is moot. First flight this morning, perfect weather here, I took off under perfect control, cleared the fence, and rolled about 60 degrees for a 180 turn to downwind. Starting pulling elevator to maintain the climb, but no response. Wiggled all the controls, and realized I had no control response and the motor had spooled down.

It was a 2.4Ghz radio system and the link was lost. It obviously went to failsafe, and since it was in a 60 degree bank at about 200 feet, the nose began to drop and it headed for the mother earth. Link was never recovered and my prized Shinden met the expected demise.

I'm looking for another Shinden that someone maybe bought and never got around to assembling. If I can't find one, then I'll probably buy a Valiant for next year.

I am soooooo tired of flying my 5 year old Focus 2.

That's terrible.

I almost lost my pattern plane to a Spektrum radio. Luckily, I was straight and level (and perfectly trimmed) and the link was re-established after about six seconds. [X(]

Same brand here.

Although I haven't heard of many problems and there are lots of them out there.

Shinden from Norway!

Having been keen to get hold of a Shinden for some time after being impressed with my Otop I finally tracked down a supplier in Norway of all places. Throttlestore.com is the dealer and my Shinden is currently in transit to Scotland. Price was 799 Euros shipped including all taxes which seems like a good price for a full composite painted model. Will report on impressions of model on delivery.
