Black Magic VF3 Build Thread
#476
Hi Pete,
Well almost... I'm actually building a new bench for it. Managed to get a steel bench frame from work for $10 but I need to add a few more bars to it to give full support under the benchtop(door) and also add some shelving etc. Was just about to weld it up last weekend and then a storm/rain came. Not so good trying welding in rain.. lol
I bought some nice Maytec extrusion to make the jig rails and crossbars. It will provide full adjustability and should look trick. I'll probably have my VF3E before the jig is finished.... lol
Will send some pictures when it's complete.
Cheers
Jason.

Anonymity is a myth in 2008. This guy is not a customer. he is a jet guy who also posts under the username of "jedijingle" in the jet forum. Want his cell and home number, address, place of employment, phone records, internet records etc? This is the information age after all. Anyone can access it. Don't play games if you don't know the rules. he has absolutely no direct connection with me whatsoever, and his statements are simply an attempt to do me harm by writing lies and presenting them as fact. I would be suprised if he's ever been within 100 miles of a Black Magic, much less anything I ever touched personally. I'll unravel this one, one way or another. I'm just wondering what I will find when I get to the bottom. Or who.
Opinion, criticism, all fine. I'm no angel either.
But this guy has crossed a line. So if anyone might know why John Ingle from Poway Ca. might want to harm my reputation and livelihood, email me at [email protected] and this is as far as it goes with me publicly unless he isn't smart enough to shut up, fess up, retract and move along.
I'd much rather get this thread back on track. Go Dean go!!!!!

Okay....
Moving forward
Yea, let's get back to building awesome planes !
A busy day in the shop and backyard. Worked on 4 Black Magics, 2 personal planes - a VF3 and a V2.2 and the two electric vf3e twins ( the ones that have been commented on recently).
First off I have detail pics of the twin vf3es and the sanding - prep work that I did today. These planes are sweet, a matched pair at 2 lbs, 2 oz with canopy, landing gear and chin cowl. I sanded all the "Super Fill" that Mike applied and finished everything with 220 grit. I also cut and trimed the cowl intakes, chin intake and nose vents. I did a glaze final fill with the Super fill product and put them up on the rack. I'll have a couple more hours finish sanding and getting the ready for fiberglass but they are real close.
Enjoy these pictures - these planes are - SUPER AWESOME ! I can't wait to paint these babies !!!!!

I also got my V2.2 out in the sun and finished sanding the wings to 320 - the are ready to cover. I still have to do a little work on the stabs but I should be able to cover everything starting tomorrow. I'll post more pics on the V2 thread.
Been a busy day and I got a lot done.
Can't wait to start slinging paint.....

Hi all,
Looks like I am doing another shop day !!!
4 planes - 3 separate projects !!!
I hope to get the twins half in fiberglass. I am going to try to get an extremely light 2.5 oz fiberglass base and finish that with just one rolled on coat of primer. I will document the fiberglassing again, I was thinking of using a flour sifter to drop the microballons and using a roller to smooth it all out.
Start covering the wings on my yellow v2 I still have to do a little trimming ans sanding on the stabs, should have the time get it all ready and started.
For primered vf3 I still need to finalize my paint scheme. It's going to be in tribal graphics just not sure yet how it's all coming together. It looks like the fiberglass and primer base added about 5 ounces. I can't wait to start painting this bird...
fun fun !!!!
later all,
pics tonight

I got the wings and stabs of my VF.3 just about covered. This is the basic scheme that all four of the Atwood Skunk Works planes will be done in. The colors may change but the game remains the same. A little more covering to do then I can start the long tedious process of sanding and finishing the fuse.

Hi All,
I fully prepped out the twins today and they are ready for balsarite. I put them up for the evening. They will get the balsarite sealer in the morning, they are looking great. I am on schedule and should have them in base coat in about a week if all goes well.
This is like the classic "naked baby" picture.
cheers!

Hi Jason,
These planes are set up for standard mounting plates and stand-offs. But all I have is bare firewalls.
Mike has also designed a laser cut mount. That he will have to disclose
I hope to get the balsarite sealer on the planes today and some fiberglass. I am also ready to cover the wings, stabs and rudder on my V2, today and I am going to cut and finish the wings and stabs on my personal vf3.
ANOTHER SHOP DAY !!!!
cheers!

Arch,
It will be good to have you stateside again. I will put it on my calendar. I doubt very seriously it iwll be ready by then, I still have ton of work to do on it. I will be flying something though, probably my ZN Line Fashion. I will bring the trailer and we can wring out my H-9 Extra 260. Remind me as we get closer to the date and I will definitely make the trip. Perhaps I will get a chance to fly through a few rounds of Advanced.
Pete,
I think that is St. Claresville actually. You should try to make it down. I will also see if Mark is available.

Anthony,
Nope, it'll be Ravenswood, I'm flying at Dad's home field, not St. Clairsville...going to spend time with the folks...
you guys are more than welcome to come play with my VF3. I'm not dragging my trailer, so I wont have my 40% Extra..but I'll certainly wring yours out

If that is the same field where I attended the pattern primer with Buddy I know where it is. Nice open field, nit as nice as St. Clairsville but still nice.
If I can get Buddy to stop working doubles like a fiend I might have a V 2.2 for you to wring out as well.
Maybe we can get a day trip planned.

Pete,
Yep, same field...
Dean, DUDE, come on up. That weekend is Mother's day and with me being in Afghanistan, figured I probably should go home and say hi to the folks... Tara and I are going to be at mom and dad's that weekend May 10-11, then on the following Wednesday head down to SC to the Nall...then Saturday the 17th, leave Greenville and head to Atlanta. I'm hoping to have dinner with you, your wife, Mike and Melissa that evening somewhere...and then we are going to GMA on Sunday the 18th and fly all day like we did last year. Then tara and I will head back to TX late Sunday.
The more the merrier..
