Dean,
I was unaware of your Father. The issue last year was unfortunate and can appreciate the feelings you have. My airplane travels over the last (4) years have given me the opportunity to meet and model with hundreds of modelers. With very few exceptions, all the experiences were and continue to be good...I met you at the D5 shootout in 2007...you purchased the "Anti-bullschido" suit.
Many times I was asked, "Where are you going next?", or "Who are you going to be hanging with?" I would respond so and so or this person...to hear "oh boy, watch yourself there or I had a x, y or z with that person." These comments may have reflected their experiences. I like to give everyone a clean sheet of paper and make up my own mind. I suspect that some of these friendships are overly scrutinized for any number of reasons which are relevant to them and not experienced by me.
I make every effort to consistently disclose my commercial preferences, modeling interests and conflicts of interest.
Arch...Regarding my participation wit the F3A team. I am a registered investment advisor/portfolio manager, associate director, for one of the world's largest investment banks. To avoid potential conflicts and unintended issues, fund raising at virtually any level is not permitted.
Exiting the box.

Wow,
Rusty's brought back some great memories from the Shoot out in Muncie in 2007. It was a great time and I did meet Rusty for the first time. I also got to meet his good buddy Troy along Archie and the entire crew from D4 and D5.
Check these jems out, Rusty who landed the plane after the mid air - was it you or Troy? Man that was awesome !!!!!
It was my first trip to Muncie and I really enjoyed it
What was cool is both Arch and I took our divisions (LOL - I had no competitors) . We had a really great time and I had a hoot meeting all the Chicago crew - If Bobby ever offers you an adult beverage you better accept it....
Rusty I was reading between the lines that your not going to be able to participate in our koolaid fund raiser, that's okay I understand your conflict of interest....
enjoy the pics everybody...

Handglider...memory lane
Fund raising for the Team gave me the opportunity create important products to sell...to modelers...like you. The "Anti-bullschido" suit was designed to protect the wearer from trash talk... Thanks again for the donation!
My Zeque... I ran into one of my fellow Chicago pals in the center of the box and landed immediately to find the results which have been posted about 27 times the last several years.

Man your going to love this....
I got the entire sequence of that last flight, from start up to perfect landing after the mid-air.
Dude you rock - I can't believe you had such a perfect landing, really says a lot about the Oxai models.
That other dude pulled it off perfect too...

Well I have a little more progress today. The stab and main wing alignments done and the engine mount put in place. Canopy area and front deck are next. Some more pics to come soon too.

Anyways. Bill Pritchett Black Magic built by Mark Atwood took first plane in Toledo
On a funny note Mark Atwood took second with his Black Magic
Probably would have taken third with his other Black Magic but could only enter one plane of his own

I felt bad looking at the Atwood Black Magic line up knowing that mine should have been the fourth in that line. It just didn't seem right not having the sister ship appearing in that line up. Unfortunately my creative removal of the landing gear and my "questionable" monokoting practices have rendered my plane structurally sound but cosmetically challenged!
Congrats to Mark and Pritch. Who gets to keep the first place prize by the way?

Here are some pictures of the planes. The only difference is Bill's is Insignia Blue instead of Black. They looked great.
Also, here is a picture of the new Sequence coming from Great Planes. It is a 50" electric. I talked to the R&D guys about getting it made into a 2 meter ARF. We'll see where it goes.

I didn't know Mark had 3 VF3's. Those planes look fantastic, it's got to be the kool-aid flavoring. Congradulations Mark on a job well done.

Pattern planes win quite often. I believe Mark has won previously, but i'm not 100% sure. they used to have a dedicated class to pattern planes, but it has since been combined with all aerobatic types. There was a 60% Extra 260 that was in the category as well.

Well just a little update on the new VF3. The front deck is now in place and the cowling has been fitted. The canopy parts have been adjusted and read to glue together. It won't be long now and glass work will commence. This plane should be ready by Andersonville or maybe sooner, I'm just plugging away. Second photo is just a couple of planes some Kool-aid drinking buddies have.

Alright, well a CDI equipped V3 has now flown and all I can say is WOW!!! This engine is just SICK!! It will idle at 1200 all day long. I flew the 18X11 WPN prop and didnt' really like the speed, so I'm going to play with some props. It was a little slower than I like. The downlines are just stupid with the idle that low. You also have to land with power or the plane just falls out of the sky. Starting is so smooth and easy. The biggest different though is fuel consumption. I am not running the low oil setup. I am running 30% Heli as I always have. Previously I could fly one Masters sequence and maybe 1/3-1/2 of a second sequence on a 20oz main tank and 2 oz header tank. With the CDI I removed the header tank as I put the CDI unit up in the nose. That left me with a 20oz main tank. I flew the first flight and couldn't believe how little fuel I used. When talking to Richard at YS he told me you don't get the YS kicks with the ignition so running it out of fuel isnt a big deal. So I went up and just started flying. I went through the Masters sequence twice and was flying the 3rd, when on the half square leading into the spin it coughed. It didnt die, but I landed and there was still a LITTLE fuel left in the tank. I think i could've finished the spin and been fine, but I didnt. So I basically flew the sequence 3 times on a 20oz tank. Fuel consumption appears to be about 1/3 what it was before. There is MUCH less smoke trail as well as you don't need to have the engine running rich. I can't imagine how little there would be on the low oil or the low smoke fuel.
I am flying the igniton plugged into a spare port on my receiver with dual tech aero regulators and 2 950mah LiPop packs. It looks like I am using about 200mah per flight, which seems to be right in line with what everyone else is reporting. Absolutely no radio issues with the 2.4 FASST system.
I am definitely impressed. Going back over this evening to try the 18.1X11 that I've been flying and also the 18.1X12 prop. The ignition doesnt mind being loaded down a little more so I'm anxious to see how it performs. There is a new 18.5X12 WPN that the Japanese are hooked on and I have one coming, but wont have time to play with it before the weekend and I have a contest, so I'm just going to find something I like for the next 2 days and then play some more next week.
