Can't say if it's exactly the same size hub as the 18.1x11, but the 19x11 doesn't have the huge hub. It may actually be the 19.1x11, I don't really remember.

The 19X11 is basically the same size hub as the 18.1X11. The spinner will work with both props without any mods.
I actually didn't think I'd like the 19X11 as I thought it would be too slow. I was wrong. I REALLY like that prop. I played with it last night and so far I think I'm going to love it. I'm going to leave it on there this weekend for the contest.

No problem Dean. Glad the 1.60 is back. Send me the 1.70 whenever you get a chance. I want to get that one converted to CDI also. Flew it in my first contest with it today. Won all 3 rounds we flew. Weather was nasty storms and all here in Temple today, then after lunch it was perfect. Was chasing the needle valve on mine, but finally got it right. The CDI has a different, much smaller sweet spot, but when its right, it is incredible. I'm running the 19X11 and really like the all around feel of the plane. With CDI, my V3 weighs in at 10lbs, 10.5oz. Flies great.

I'm working on my VF3 and need some help with the Rudder Pull Pull Setup. First, what are you guys doing for a horn. Iwas thinking of making my own horn out of 4-40 threaded rod through a hard point. Whats the best?

Thanks Arch. Ithink it would be simpler for me to just buy the HDDubro setup. Do you mount that rod pretty far back from the rudder hinge line so the piviot point lands on the hinge line?

We just used the rod. We don't use the braces that come with it, just standard nuts to save weight, and also we used the small horns. They have to be drilled out.

Mine is 8-32 and then the horns are what look to be aileron horns from an older torque rod aileron setup. The rod is right at the back of the bevel in this setup. Works great.

HI Chris,
Here are a few pics of my install.
Iused 6-32 threaded steel rod and dubro aileron horns. bore the hole as close as you can so the hole in the horn is as close as you can get. We are using 1/2 dowel as a hard point. If your all concerned about getting the hole over thehingeline you can always bend the rod
Another tip is to drill and install the exit guilds after your glass - you won't get a bump orbulge. You will also get a cleaner exit. I've been using DEPS scraps for the exit tubes.
you can also see my retro fitted deps in thesepictures.

I started using the dubro 60-91 sized pull pull system and I like it. I think the HD might be overkill, not sure...but it's heavier.

Like Dean said we don't use the stand offs because it's dead weight. Just the threaded portion along with the nuts. Do NOT use all thread from the hardware store, it's too soft and WILL fail.

Mike,
You also don't want to use stainless steel threaded rod or screws -stainless istoo brittle and it will eventually break. You can buy standard zinc plated 6-32 screws at the hardware store and cut the heads off for a ruddder setup. They seem to be about right except sometimes it's hard to findreally long ones.

Thanks for all the helpful hints guys. It turns out Ihad a HDDubro pull-pull horn in my control horn drawer...Iwill be using the rod and nuts for my horn. Ido need to figure out something to thread onto the ends of it to secure a clevis. Any ideas?

Good question. if it's the HD version it's at least 8-32 if not 10-32 depending on which one.

That's why I use the smaller one with the 6-32 and a goldberg horn end. (the white one). it's enough, and it's lighter. never had one break, and that's saying something on this plane.

Hi Mike,
What's been happening at Custom airframes over the last 5 months? Been a while since your last update in December...
Cheers

Some photos of my VF3,...I did not do the hard stuff like the frame work, sheeting etc. Here are some of the things I've finished so far and now I have to pull the YS170 out of the Partner to get the cowling correct.

Slow and steady. Working on planes and new stuff. Keeping kits available.

Right now, trying to get one built for the Nats for me. The VF3 prototype was totalled at Lakeland. So, after building 22 of these 3s, it's about time I had one for myself. That's priority one. Right this minute I don't have anything to fly. THAT ain't gonna work.

There's stuff cooking over here, but I learned my lesson about saying anything too soon. So, I just haven't had anything to say really. Nothing before the nationals in July for certain. And more than likely not then either. But rest assured, I'm not sitting around watching TV over here, I'm busy [8D]

Well Mike,...I had a huge head start,..........thanks.
You need to take some time for yourself to get yours done. I know it's a difficult thing when you have to fill orders. You are always welcome to fly mine at the NATS if you need it,...really. I hope to have #2 painted before the NATS and done if I can get my hands on it in time.
You can always fly my secret weapon,..........I'll bring the Partner for you,...LOL!!!

That looks real good the Bill and the mount thing, was it on the money? I looks like it to me. I hope to get mine ready by Andersonville, it may be more of a back up for Chris at NATS. Great job and get some pics up soon.
