Here is a pic of the wiring that I need to figure out. I mentally numbered them, from the left 1-4, left most being number one andso forth:

The #2 wire (red one) has 2 wires attached to the terminal. One is still connected to the tiny board that has the sleeve after it. The one that is still connected goes to the Machine gun LED in themantlet.

OK everyone....now I really need some diagrams. The only wires that are connected are in the lower hull. Seems that while moving things in the back room, someone was kind enough to toss around the tank box and all the wires got pulled off inside the turret.
On Top of that the cannon spring in the top of the turret has gone missing. If anyone can help me with a spring let me know please.

Finally got around to painting again today. Used an old compressor that is noisy as hell and keeps blowing the overload valve. Anyway here are some pics of my now ALL yellow tank:

Not much left for painting. Justhave to do the striping (camo), black on the wheels and detail the tools on the deck. A little weathering and she'll be ready to go to battle. I just wish the airsoft barrel would get here. That and someone come up with the wiring diagrams. I need to post over at MTG and see if someone over there can help with the diagrams and spring as well.

Hi Stang, my Tiger s&s has slightly different color wires but three and four go to the turret turning motor and one is white in my tank and goes to the LEDs at the front. Took a couple of photos hope these help.[img][/img]

Jim do yoy think that all of the same tanks are wired the same...only with different colors?

Thanks for the pics, but I need to know where the wires actually go....airsfot gun, turret rotation, gun elevation, LED's, etc.

Ok Stang, I'll have a look and let you know where each wire goes. Tanks in bits anyway so its not a problem.

Stang I looked at the wires for you. starting from the fat red wire, the fat red wire on the end goes to the positive side of the turret traverse motor, the next one fat white goes to the negative side of the traverse motor the first black wire after that goes to the bottom of the square wire connector up into the turret the second black goes to the top connection of the square wire connection This one has the red wire that goes up to the positive side of the airsoft gun on the other side of the square connector. the next wire is white it goes to the middle connection on the square wire connector, then a thin black wire goes to the front headlight negative and the thin red wire goes to the positive led head light, thats it. should get it together again for you.

Thanks Chris I am going to look at it in the morning when I get home. I bought a multi-meter today at Harbor Freight to help me as well. Tried to use it and I'll be damned if I haven't forgotten how...gotta re-learn it. I looked over the wiring when I got home and noticed that in all of the moving my brother's in-law did, one side of the wiring is also disconnected from the square that mounts to the underside of the hull. (More headaches). The pic you posted will come in handy as I think it looks fairly easy to trace where the wires go. I also noticed that there are 2 pins on the plug that have 2 smaller gauge wires attached to them. I think they are for LED's, but I have to double check.

JIMBO - have you had a chance to take pics yet. I am curious to see how if there is any difference between the wiring on our tanks, and see where the wires actually terminate.

My other big problem is that my gun elevation spring is missing. Could you or JIMBO check the length and diameter of the spring for me? I emailed Murphy at Mato to see if he could help me out with it, but he hasn't responded yet. That and I am still waiting on the airsoft barrel to get here.

I want my tank back together. really bad. Especially after looking at several other peoples tanks recently. If I could get the wiring done tomorrow I could probably piece everything together to at least paint the camo on it so final assemby would only be installing the barrel and screwing everything else together.

Chirs that description was perfect. I was able to rewire the turret with no problem. Sounded harder than it really was.

Got the airsoft gun to fire a few times, then the darned little rubber nipple dislodged, jammed with a bb in the barrel. Had to get my AR15 cleaning rod out to push them out. It didn't tear or anythingso I should be able to get it fixed again. Hopefully when I put things back together this time they work. If not I think that I will end up giving up on the airsoft machanism.

I finally got around to making the charging circuit. I ended up using a 6amp rated switch from Radio Shack, making a plate and mouting it, along with a charge plug, volume knob and the on/off switch under the drivers side engine vent cover. I used the thread cutting method and hinged that cover to gain access to it. When I get a chance I will take pics and post them. Seems to work great so far.

Need some more help here. I am going to make my tank a ******* of sorts. I removed the feifel devices from the rear of the tank, and am thinking of removing the shovel from the front. The front track holder may not go back on. I was modeling it after a real tank (and will still number it that way) from 1944 Normandy front, but have no desire to do the Zimmermit coating or changing the copula or vents on the turret.
What I need is someone who has made the track holders on the turret, the engine intake cover from a late productions, and the transmission guards from styrene. I want to add those pieces, but need some general instructions. From the prices that I have seen for the metal versions, I figure I might as well try making them on my own.
I also need to figure out what I can use to make the headlight covers with the battle slits. I tried just painting them, but the light shines right through 2 layers of primer and 2 more layers of base color.

As for the airsoft mechanism, I think I am going to order some more from Mato just so that I can get the tank operational again. That will give me the unit I have and a spare to play with. I just can't take looking at my tank sitting in pieces anymore.

Stang951:

Try looking for aluminum duct repair tape. Its basically thin aluminum foil with an adhesive backing. Take two small pieces, and place them over where your painted cover is, leaving the show-through slt open. Rub down and fold the edges over, and trim the excess around the edges where the lens meets the casing. Paint over this, and you're golden. Nothing will show through the foil.

I bought the aluminum tape to use as insulation between the styrene hull and the wiring where the lighting runs are in my Tamiya. They tell ya to buy their special tape, a fracton of the length for 3x the price. I've even used it to make hinge assemblies.

If you're careful, you could do it with ordinary household cooking foil too.

Hi Strang

I have done all the mods to my own Tiger that I am nearly finished. When you mention the engine intake covers do you mean the mesh gaurds that sit on the engine deck? If so let me know and I will post some photos and a how to as they are very easy to make. The transmission covers are very easy, just a couple of sheets of styrene with some bolts and take about half an hour or so to do. I will take some photos and post them later when I get home (along with the engine screens if you want the info on them).

I eventually bought some track holders as I was not happy with my home made ones. They looked good but were not strong enough to withstand a lot of handling - fine for static display but not for RC.

The info on the lights from Whitewolf is spot on and works a treat as I used this in the past on other projects.

I will check later to see if you need the info.

A question back - what it the thread cutting method?

gorehound - send me any info you have on parts you have built. I am always open to making new parts.

The transmission covers look very easy to make, I was looking for someone that might have had a template that I could use to cut them out of the styrene. Just wanted to make it a little easier, especially with the short amount of time that I have had to work on my tank lately.

While not close to being finished, I took some time tonight and painted the camo on my tank. I used the airbrush, and it appears either the pressure was too high, or the mix was not right for the paint, because some of it came out a little whiteish..Don't know but I like the way it came out. Wife loved it. She was upset that I was doing something away from her and the kids, but after she saw it she forgot she was upset.

Now I have to repair or replace the airsoft mechanism, modify the smoke unit, put it all back together dull coat it and start detailing the exterior.

Now I have serious problems. I reassembed my Tiger to get some play time in Saturday. Well after it got stuck in a hole, it started smoking....from the inside. It seems that the large receiver board smoked.

Does anyone know if the receiver set thet Mato sells is the same for both the Pershing and the Tiger? I would just scrap the entire tank, but I have too much work into it to do that. The wife wants me to order the repair parts and one of the combo sets so that we can play with three tanks at one time.

Stang, yeah it's the same reciver board for all three tanks, so you are set.

Chris do you think it would be a better idea to get just the combo, replace the board with the one from the new tank, and then upgrade the electrics in the newer one? I don't know if the wife would go for that since I would need a 4-7 channel radio, 2 esc's, a controller etc. But I am thinking in the end I would have a much better tank that would be more reliable, and they could play with the other 2 tanks....Just throwing ideas around.

Been visiting Willy's site on proportional upgrades for the HL tanks, and ordered a receiver set from Murphy. Can't justify buying 2 more tanks right now. But I have decided to order them in the next few weeks after some other things are taken care of.

Talked to Murphy about the problem and he is shipping an xtra large board in case the second smokes as well.

After visiting Willy's site I decided I am going to do his conversion at some point in time. From the info on his site I decided I am going to use dual Scorpion ESC's, and a Spektrum DX6 radio. That should give me full control of the throttle, turning, gun elevation, turret rotation, gun firing, and be able to turn the smoke and LED's on. The only problem that I have with the conversion would be the sound. It was one of the features that I really liked about the HL and Tamiyas.I guess to convert it without buying a DMD unit I'll have to sacrifice something. Eventually I still want to get a Tamiya, but it's not in the cards right now....and when I have the DX6 I'll already have a capable radio to deal with them.

For now though it'll be a simple HL junk repair though. I also ordered a few metla parts for the tank from Germany. As soon as those come in I will start painting them to match the tank and put it all back together. Hopefully in the next 2 weeks everything will be back to HL normal.

Got the 2 new airsoft mechs in over the weekend. Installed a good one. Shoots pretty good with the 6.08mm barrel. I tried to put the turret and upper hull back together so I could just install the receiver boards and go, but I lost most of the screws somehow. Can' figure it out..I had them all in a metal parts dish. Oh well I'll have to take a run to the hobby shop and get some new screws...either that or the hardware store. Took some pics of it pieced together. When I get home in the morining I'll resize them and post a few images.
I'm really looking into the fully proportional conversion though. I picked out a radio already, going to find out how much everything would cost from my LHS and see how I would come out from a few sources. The only thing I will not be able to get working (because of my limited knowledge) would be the sound. The radio I want is the Spektrum DX6. 6 channel radio that has multiple model memory so I would be able to use it for a Tamiya later on. The wife is behind me to order 2 more tanks also. She wants to have one to play with and one for the kids.....gotta love a supporting wife!!!!

I need some historical help here. I am looking for the right insignia to place on my tank. It will be numbered 127 for __'s tank while in SS-Pz.Abt. 102, around 1944. according to what I have found so far they had an "s" rune, but I can't seem to find any pictures of it and have no idea what it is.

Thanks Rambeast. Just wish everything would come together at once so I can finish it. If I have the time today I may mix up some dull coat and spray it to preserve the paint from scratches and mishaps.

Replaced the board and everything works great. The only problem I have now is that the idler wheels are too far in, have to pull them out some, and then reqire the turret as it traverses in the wrong direction.
