Hey Richard,

When you were building the Hellcat, what was the trick to bending the tail gear wire. I've got it pushed up through the stablizer inside the brass sleeve, but I'm having a heck of a time trying to making the 90 degree bend.

I didn't use any trick, just brute force and a good pair of pliers.

Problem is I can't really grip the wire because it's right up against the trailing edge of the stablizer. Am I missing something?

Hi Fred, did you check Tower? You might be stuck with an MA 14x7 3-blade.

cjordan, I slightly curve the wire out, just enough for the pliers to grip onto. Then turn the tail wheel to 90 degree and bend the wire perpendicular to the fuselage. Another word, don't bend the wire straight back because there is no room between the wire and the vertical fin for the pliers.

Hi,
Just a fellow F-6er. Like you, I could NOT figure out how to properly (or even improperly!) make that @#$%^ 90 deg bend! So I sweet talked a buddy into milling me a little aluminum tail wheel fork assembly which then has set screws into the wire running down from the rudder. That way, the 90deg bend was done in a vice!

Hi ffdg,
I am also flying this Hellcat. I am using an OS 1.08 two-stroker turning a Graupner 14X7 three-blade prop. The Graupner page at Hobby Lobby shows the 14X7 for the OS FS 120 as well-
http://www.hobby-lobby.com/grprop.htm#3%20Blade
The Graupner props are really hi quality, and take black paint nicely.
Good Luck,
Jim

Hi, both Century Jet and Sierra Precision make rotating retracts for this plane.

Hey RAM-3500,

Did you use the stock wheels that came with the plane?

Hi,
A comment wrt the flying qualities of this Hellcat model:
Do not let your model's cg be aft of value specified in the manual-it is very sensitive in pitch and an aft cg just leads to big trouble! Also, heed the throws called out.
The Great Planes AccuThrow Deflection Meter is extremely valuable in both zeroing and measuring throws on all surfaces-which btw are not flat surfaces.
On my OS 1.08 the Hellcat goes like a scalded ape!!

Hi,called o.s. today and asked what is the best size 3 blade prop th use with an 1.20 os.They told me to use a 14/7 for a 3 blade prop.m.a. makes one and graupner make one, witch is better
the m.a. is black,no paint.Hear good things about the graupner props.

Hi Fred, refer back to Post #216 and Post #226 (I told you so )

Graupner props are good and have slightly wider blades. I would go with the Graupner 14/7 3-blade. I usually paint mine semi-gloss black with insignia yellow tips:

Yes, Graupner props are better. I was using Tru-Turn 1 1/4" spinner hub on the Hellcat. The Bearcat above has a Tru-Turn 1" spinner hub.
