i ran the epoxy i used to fuel proof the wood up onto the foam about a half inch from the maple EM, just to protect the maple. i don't leave my planes inverted for any length of time, so the foam is unprotected. never had that problem yet, if it gets soked i'll scoop it out and refoam.

Ordered my 109 yesterday, and just now I finished reading the whole tread.
I plan to fly it with a 120 OS pumped 4 stroke.
Do you guys think it will pull the plane?
I see people are using Williams Brothers wheels, some 4 3/8 and some 3 3/8.
My field is grass and tall grass, warbirds always have problems with nose overs.Were the 4 3/8s very hard to put inside the wing, Im inclined to use this size because the field I fly from.
Spinner , would like to use the Dave Platt but they seem hard to find, where do I get one or which other spinners are available, that look scale?

I'm still here! In fact I'm working on my BF109 this weekend. I am modifying my cockpit so that my pilot will fit - see a previous post of mine with a high detailed pilot. Hopefully my wheels from Williams Brothers will come in on Saturday - then I can work on my wings (I bought my retracts from Sierra Giant, which were made for this particular model). I've even added my own machine guns (I turned them on my lathe). After this weekend, I'll post some photos. I also need to build a power meter and a digital switch for some navigation lights I'm also adding. I have yet to buy an engine. That will come a little later.

The williams brothers tires will work and look fine, but the 4 3/8 size is going to require so modification to the wing spar. A lot more expensive, but the Glennis wheels for Me-109's will actually work better on grass as they have a wider tread, but not near as fat as non-scale robart tires(I say non scale only relative to the me-109).
Motoadve....a 120 4 stroke should fly the plane fine.

My son has been painting his first build (an ARF diehard) so he’s been painting some of the me109 parts for me. The last pic is my elevator pushrod. The middle wire (spring steel) will be run through a hardwood block to limit lateral motion.

Has anyone considered using a dual servo arrangement for the elevators?
I was thinking on using dual servos (90+oz/torque, one for each half) with Dave Brown fiberglass pushrods that would be well supported to limit lateral movement for the elevators, and a large scale servo (100+ oz/torque) with a pull-pull configuration on the ruddder.
Any feedback? Pros/cons?

Snappa, even if you found the right spinner size, you would not want one of those pointy spinners. They just look wrong. The latest issue of FLY RC has a review on this plane, and the author stuck a pointy aluminum spinner on the plane. It does not look right at all. He claimed it gives the plane a more "modern" look. AKA, not like the original in WWII, or WRONG. As is normal for a magazine article, there were only good things reported. Somehow the plastic spinner appears in some photos but never makes it into flight. I think we likely know the reason.

For the rudder, I also think i used a DS821, but without going and looking at the plane, I dont remember

Thanks for the reply. I had seen the original post and just thought that more powerful servos would be better, but I will sit down and revisit my original choices. Do you have preference as to what servo you would use for each application (I run Futaba in my planes)?
I also have a question for the forum: Has anyone found a replacement for the control horn/hinge combo? I am afraid the one's provided in the kit are a bit weak; they seem to have quite a bit of lateral play. I plan to replace the kit supplied hinge points with Robarts, but I can't find a manufacturer that makes a model with the integrated control horn like the one shown below.
I am also looking for a replacement for the one with a dual horn like the one used on the rudder as well.

clandestoy, I did a pull test on both the robart and the kit hinges and the kit where actually stronger, the larger robart hinges breaking right along the molding parting line. I think it showed that it was a bad test more than anything else. I’m installing the kit hinges with the control horn on them and only those. My concern is how the epoxy will hold up against the ability to bend the kit hinges relatively easily. I’m just going to have to keep an eye on them.
in my case I’ve flown airtronics mostly with some futaba and now switching to JR and my E servo will be a Airtronics 732 (I don’t think they make any more) . the rule of thumb I have always used is 1.5 times the calculated rating for a dual servo controlled surface, and 2x for a single controlled surface for A and E. everything else is at the calculated torque or a little over for 120mph (I just don’t think it can go faster than that with a saito 1.5). if it does I’ll have to T back in vertical downs.

Well I picked up a nice YS 140 limited with a slimline pitts style muffler. I'm thinking this should fly the plane very nicely. I just finished up an Extreme Flight Yak 54, so this will go on my building table next. Anyone try a spinner from here: http://www.skysharkrc.com/shop/?shop=1&cat=15
I noticed that the included dampening motor mount system is not recommended by several people. It looks like a copy of the Dave brown VibraDamp Sport Rail mount. I know the Dave browns work very nice since I used them with my ys motors in my pattern planes. I might have to buy the orginal dave browns since they should bolt right in.

I think the skyshark ME-109G spinner is too small. Its 4.96" diameter. I dont recall the actual spinner diameter the plane needs, but its over 5".

Curious , and sorry if I missed it but is it worth hooking up the inner -cooling /flaps as stated or just hook them up as one large flap with the larger existing flaps ?
Are they effective as stated in the factory set up ? I am for scale looking functions but not at the cost of weight for two additional servos

My Feedback: (1)
I think it is worth it. The "airbrakes" as we call them are not really scale anyway since on the real plane they would not go up in flight. If you locked the top half even with the wing you still get some of the drag common with split flaps. I have yet to fly mine without a head wind to see if the airbrake action is worth it. As for the weight, the plane weighs a ton already, what's a couple more servos?
If you do hook them up make sure you do some mods to the horns and the mounting area, the stock set up is not very strong.
