RE: Advice on building a Tipo

There's a little downturn in the fuselage bottom near the rudder hingeline that will allow the fuse to scrape the ground without the stab touching. You could theoretically then build it in a...

RE: Curare 60

Probably the most popular fiberglass Curare kits were from "Quality Line Kits", they far outnumbered the other variants (at least in our area) at the time. They also made a "Minare", which was a 45...

RE: Tower kaos .60 mod and spa compliance

Great Planes was once a high-end kit maker... I have no idea what happened to them.

RE: plans and specs

Actually, I just remembered, it was from "Aviomodelli" and they seem to be still producing a "mark3" version currently:

RE: plans and specs

I really don't think that the Model tech version was an accurate reproduction of the earlier European kit from the 80's... I wouldn't judge the plane based on the Modeltech version, although I have...

RE: History of “Classic Pattern” Discussion

'69 was a little before my time, but I do remember the 80's and early 90's and how unbelievably popular pattern was... EVERYBODY at the club was flying or attempting to fly a pattern plane. The...

RE: Ideas on how to build a 12' span model at 1.72 lbs?

I would look into cutting the whole thing out of light expanded bead styrofoam, and just leaving the covering or finish off. This might get you in the general area, and it might be worth cutting...

RE: SBA Speeda Ad

The prices were amazing as well, looking back on it. As a kid, I thought these things were actually expensive, but still somewhat within reach... I can't imagine a kid buying a pattern plane right...

RE: What Plane is this ?????

I remember a few guys at one of the clubs I belonged to had a Speeda... I started trying to save up my pennies (I was a teenager) and finally scraped up the 150 bucks for the kit, only to find out...

RE: recommendations for an isocyanate free paint

Wow, thanks for the link... that stuff seems really attractive. I'll give it a try. Since it's thinned with water, I assume I won't need to use an air dryer in the line?

recommendations for an isocyanate free paint

I was wanting to know your recommendations for a good automotive type paint that is free of isocyantes. I'd like to use a conventional respirator that fits over my face only, and not have to go out...

RE: I want to no about the MK Arrow

The Arrow was also a great F3A airplane, as it won the world champs. Speed was managed with a "constant speed prop" meaning it was variable pitch... higher pitch for horizontals, lower pitch for...

RE: what built up pattern for first pattern plane

The few choices that come to mind are the MK Blue Angel VR-7, Wild Beat 777, or the Topstar, it looks like they're designed by Naruke or Akiba, so you know its a good plane; or the Bridi 2+2 Dirty...

RE: my first own design plan

That's a nice agressive wing taper ratio... should have very quick and positive aileron response. You might want to devise a way to somehow experiment with different wing and stab locations to test...

RE: MK Skystar 90 IN DA HOUSE!

MK kits were some of the most striking masterpieces of art that I have ever had the pleasure of holding. Each piece fit absolutely perfectly. My first one cost me only 159.95 for an Aurora!

RE: SPA Serior Pattern Association

The "old AMA rules" were never this restrictive though. I think the interest level would go through the roof if it included designs up until '83. I would certainly come out.

I flew control line for years as a kid before I began training and flying R/C and moving into pattern flying. The biggest UC plane I had was powered by the OS .40. My question is... what's stopping...

RE: Any news from Hanno Prettner ?

I remember him from his domination throughout the 80's and early 90's. He is the biggest innovator in the history of pattern (in my opinion).

RE: Big Dirty Birdy 2+2

Its actually a balsa fuselage. The box simply contains a whole bunch of blocks that you have to put together absolutely straight... and shape properly. The "straight" part is the challenging area...
