IMHO is interesting to exploit this days the radios with dual 2.44 GHz and 900 MHz radio link as a extra safety measure for any jet, fast plane, heavy warbird etc.

Using Eurokit retracts for ages... they are quite reliable as they have a automatic failsafe by design.

Today the way to go is electron retracts or similar with trailing link legs .
