hey rico- leave the low speed needle at the factory setting for now. 2.5 turns out on the needle is for breakin.start leaning it 1/8 turn & listen to the engine. keep leaning till you hear the r.p.m. start to pick up.then go 2 clicks at a time. if you go past the sweet spot, it will die, or kill the glow plug.when you get close, pull the plug & read it after each run. good luck. Carter,
I know exactly where the high speed needle should be, and I know how to lean out the motor, but for whatever reason even when set rich (2.5 turns out), the boat WILL NOT ACCELERATE. Runs 10-15mph with no revs. Prop depth and angle set exactly as specified in the TS2 Manual.
Checked the fuel line to the tank, no kinks. Pressure tap to muffler is good to go. Glow plug is like new. This is why I suspect that I screwed up the low speed needle. I just need to know exactly where to set the low speed ( turns out), so that I can rule out that setting. Next step is tearing it down ( which I dont really have the time for about now). Frustrated,
Bill

Hey LES301M, I have a question about the Dewalt battery set up you have for your starter. Can one of those starters handle 14.4 volts alright? Aren't they designed for 12 volts?
Thanks
John

Most of these starters are based on motorcycle/ATV parts, and are typically rated at 9 - 16 volts. If your starter gets hot, Don't do it. However, I've been using this setup for years.

Ive heard and have been told to double 2 rc 12 volt batteries to start big nitro motors that are hard to crank over using a 12volt starter. I haveny tryed it yet but others tell me they have done it. As long as you arnt wheeling it over also long.

The best looking quality of fuel my LHS has is O'Donnell 20% R2R. This will my first time running a nitro engine, and the engine is brand new. Is this fuel OK to run in an OS 21XM outboard? I don't plan on racing. The O'Donnell website says:
"Sport fuel with legendary O'Donnell quality. Made using the highest-quality oils and blending techniques. Special lubricant package benefits the operation and performance of sport engines found in most ready-to-run vehicles. Helps to protect your engine as you learn the skills to provide proper care, tuning, and maintenance.
I like the sound of the last part.
What do you think guys?
Thanks

Ok folks so I tore her down, the piston and sleeve looks great, and on the bottom end the connecting rod looks ok, but I am still very concerned with the hitch at top dead center. If I grab the connecting rod with a finger, and try spinning the flywheel, I cannot feel any real slop in the pin, but when it hits top dead center it feels like it moves just a bit. Is this nasty hitch normal? Am I just overreacting to what could ultimately be a bad low speed needle valve? Ahhh I need to figure this out.................

macbane- i would be concerned about the oil %. boats need 18%. i use 60% o`donnell, but it says "boat " under the 60%. the one you`re talking about says for cars/trucks. they use less oil%. the ones labeled "boats" doesn`t start until 30%. i also have the o.s. xm. the nitro % is o.k., just less power. if i were you i would try to find something you know has 18% oil. i get mine from tower hobbies. good luck. Good News! After taking apart the bottom end and further investigating, I have narrowed down my problem to the carb/ fuel delivery. Piston and sleeve fine, connecting rod is fine, bearings are good to go with no slop, I guess that just leaves the carb. I noticed that there is what looks like a little crack in the low speed needle looking from the inside of the carb out......( bottom), is this normal?)

is it normal to have about 5oz of lead in the nose to balance this boat with a stock os 21 outboard. I have a bad porpose problem and didnt set the cg previously. I now set the cg at 9 1/2" from the back edge but it took almost 6oz of weight in the nose to level it off....by the way i used triangle stock as the balancer on top my granite countertops. I have the prop at just above c/l 3/16ths. what can i do to improve this thanks.

hey guys...ok so i'm new into tunnel boats and i purchased a top speed 2 with a cmb .21 engine with a k&b lower unit. it came with a black swivel looking unit that im guessing is the motor mount of some sort..its very simple looking, maybe it just mounts directly onto the ts2 i dont know...i need to know how i can get the right motor mount for my ts2 with some kind of trim tab that i can adjust it with...also it needs a steering arm as well and where i can purchase one of those from...also what is the best prop i should use with such a powerful engine as the cmb....another question i have is whether i should just start with a neutral prop angle...positive or negative with that engine...also what time of glow plug to use and what temp. should i be running it at....o and with the starter does it need to spin clockwise or counter to start it...
thanks

hey jojo- what you have is half of a dubro mount. you`re missing the 2 angle brackets. you can get the complete mount from tower hobbies. tower stock # lxd582. engine runs c.w. viewed from top. start w/ neg. thrust angle. engine propshaft c/l 1/8" above bottom of sponsons. not familiar w/ cmb eng. someone else will have to help w/ plug, prop, etc. CARTER

Well I had the same problem you are having with my TS2 and it would work perfect on the bench, put it into the water and
No steering, and I found that I had to up grade the steering rods as the original thin rods which come with the kit were bowing in the turn ( could not over come the torque of the motor) and this sorted out the problem.
