Now I have a plane with smoke. I'm looking for a smaller tank that will fit in the bottom and let me pump my smoke oil from the other side. Then the whole thing will only weigh like what? 5 lbs!

Thanks guys, this really helps. I'll take some pics of what I'm doing and post them. Remember, it's a work in progress. Great Idea on the Flight box Billy. Did u come up with this one or see someone else do it first? If you did ,I think you've started a new rage in flight boxes.

I found the thing and had been looking for something like it for a while. I was blown away that my fuel/radio/charger/tools/everything would fit in it.
I even though about customizing them and selling them fully loaded. It would be a sweet rig to just buy fully loaded.

Billy, I agree. You can carry everything you need in one enclosed unit. These things are great. I found mine at Home Depot for 29.95. What a buy. Here is a work in progress picture of the bottom fuel compartment. I have two 64oz separate containers because they fit without having to modify anything. Another good thing is if I decide to start using 4strokes along with my 2stokes I can carry both types of fuel in one setup. When you look at this picture remember this is the first stage of setting it up. You'll see a plastic bag and foam around my battery and two containers. Once the foam hardens I'll remove most of the bag and trim down the foam. This was done to hold everything in place. The fuel bottles and battery are wrapped in plastic so the foam will not stick. I plan on being able to remove the battery and containers when needed after this process is complete.

Thanks BH. I had been in a rolling toolbox, but after a few seasons the handle broke and the wheels were always too small.
I set this box up to MINIMIZE my need to get into the bottom of the box. I used to have to root around in the bottom of my old box for my transmitter and other stuff stored down there. This box is setup so that ignitors, prop gloves, starter, etc... are all in the top

I like your foam, Buz_Bo. I looked around at the different "great stuff" and other expanding foams, but decided against it. I would have had to switch fuel jugs to do it - mine tapers from the bottom - and I thought the stuff is basically styrofoam in a can and would melt if fuel dripped on it. What you have done is a very good idea.

I couldn'y help myself. Once I'd taken the photos and written in the forum here I decided to HTML my text and share the pics.

Here is the results. It looks OK and will work great but I might buy some of that mix it yourself and redo it. the stuff in the can comes out kind of thick and does not get all the crevices at the bottom. The stuff you mix is more liquid and it would cure to a more uniform, level top and fill all the crevices.

I'm also thinking that I will mount my pump inside and the fueling hoses will be laying in the bottom compartment and not mounted outside. That will require taking off the top to fuel, but no big deal. Besides, if you fuel is leaking or something with the fuel system needs attention, you'll know it right away. Also if any fumes are building up it will vent them.

Well, I finally finished my Field Box. Everything looks about the same as whats been posted except my fuel system is a little different. I did not mount an external hose. I have about 8 feet of hose coiled inside the box. Here's a pick of the finished fuel system.

Billy, I got those containers at Target and they are 64oz each. I guess you could use tea or water. Fuel works fine in them. I had some similar jugs that had fuel stored in them for 10years. (threw the fuel away) and didn't have any problems with the plastic. It's pretty heavy duty plastic, about the same thickness as the one gallon fuel jugs you buy.
GalenB, the foam I used is call Great Stuff and you can buy it at WallMart or Home Depot. If you look at some of the earlier threads i posted you'll see how I did it. First I lined the tool box bottom with a plastic bag and I shrink wrapped my battery and the two containers. This was done to keep the great stuff from sticking to them. After it dried I removed the bag and unwrapped the battery and containers. If I did it again I think I would do it differently. I would take some Vaseline and coat the bottom and also coat the containers and battery. Then instead of piling the foam stuff up in one shot I would do it in two or three layers letting each layer dry completely before applying the next. The Great Stuff foam in messy so be careful not to get any where you don't want it. After this sets up you can remove everything and just clean off the Vaseline. The reason I would do it in layers is because when I did mine the bottom did not setup until I took the plastic bag off and let air get to it. By doing it in layers you shouldn't run into this problem and it will probably come out looking better. My containers can be removed for easy fill ups.

I read your thread again and realized I did not answer your question. No I really don't know where to buy the mixit yourself stuff and I'll try and ask around for you.

From: Hamilton, OH,
Looks great guys. I am going to put together one of these field boxes too. I looked at Home Depot and they did not have them at my local store. I ended up finding one at Sears Hardware Store. The brand name on the box is "Keter" but it also says Master Cart. I am wondering if Black and Becker sold the design to some one else. It is identical to the boxes you have been showing. I am going to foam in some rubbermaid 1Qt containers they are short enough that i don't have to cut out my try. I am also going to put on a 1Pt container to catch the overflow fuel from when i fuel my planes. When it fills up i can mix it back in with my other fuel.
Thanks for all of the good ideas.

Okay ...I got tired of my field box too, and I had to hold 2 types of fuel, but didn't want to have to transfer to smaller containers. Lowes has this new one made by Stanley (it's not cheap, it's $59.00) but it's HUGE. As you can tell, it has everything on it and is complete ! The red tool box (which has my major tools in it)is not a part of that system, but I can haul it easily. The smaller of the two boxes has basic tools, and all of my parts bins. The bottom has everything else, including an exhaust fan for fumes, and an AM/FM CD player .. I couldn't resist !!!!
