Welcome to Club SAITO !
Barry never mention speed shops and woodstock in the same post,it's the flashbacks that hurt the most nowadays.
He's right popey you are being insensitive.I had a backscratcher that was a small roos arm claws and all, only time i felt safe really but thats a whole other story.

I'm not clicking on that link, Pope. I don't trust you.
We had a mule on our field for a while. He once tried to gnaw my tail light cover and I had to chase him off. He bit me lightly on my pants pocket once and he got hit on the head. He probably was used to kids carrying apples in their pockets to feed him. I started taking fireworks out to the field to chase him off the runway. He got used to bottle rockets and I would sometimes have to fire half a dozen at him before he got irritated enough to move. He had a bit of a mean streak in him.

Hello everyone,
I have a Saito 1.80 and I know they are glow thirsty
so my question is...
What do you recommend...Convert to CDI Glow or Convert to Gas
Thank you
John

If you want 25% better fuel economy, vastly improved user friendliness with a slight boost in power, convert to CDI & continue to burn glow fuel.
If you want 25% better fuel economy, the same vastly improved user friendliness & as much HP as an FA-220 put an FG-57 piston in it to boost compression, convert to CDI & continue to burn glow fuel. The FG-57 piston is a no modification required upgrade & you can even uses the same ring.
This was my 1st prototype built on an FA-150 case. You can get nearly the same power by just swapping the FA-180 piston for the FG-57 piston.

My suggestion is to CONVERT TO CDI & try it with glow fuel.
If you decide you still want to go to gas despite the significant loss in power, higher operating temperatures & likely shortened engine life, go ahead & get the CARBURETOR FOR THE GAS CONVERSION.

Thanks dave i only said that in the hope that sigman would find it funny.Maybe speak up and say a bit. It's an aussie sense of humour take the pee out of someone you like, and is always in good humour. Now, if you still feel like firing a round through my buttocks i offer the streakers defence after he had been arrested the night before and was appearing in court the next morning...'it seemed like a good idea at the time your honour'
Click on it barry.Popey do you remember months ago we were discussing how mountain oysters were produced? i reckon your missus has 'ringed you' and yours are swinging off her rear view mirror

The compression is a Saito feature that is why its such a rare animal. I guess Saito gave it a try on a limited scale and then decided to keep going like they had been. It was a little harder to tune like a YS.

Hello,
New to the group but I have been reading a little. Currently operate a Saito 50, 56, 80, 91 (2), 100, 125 and 150.
Recently transplanted a couple of engines and having trouble tuning even though they ran great in the previous airframe.
Saito 91 was inverted, now side mounted won't shut off with idle cut. Looked at the barrel and the linkage. Linkage is free and with it unhooked the barrel still won't close off completely. Same motor is not running clean at full throttle either. Slowly adjusting high speed needle valve.
Saito 150 ran perfectly side mounted in a 1/4 scale Pitts airframe. Now side mounted in a 1/4 scale Cub bogs down anything over 3/4 throttle but runs smooth up to that point. I have checked the tank and have very short new connection lines. I did rotate the needle valve housing with the fuel port 180 degrees to make a straight run to the fuel line.
Suggestions welcome.

Here is a thread that lists FUEL CONSUMPTION for various prototype big block Saitos with CDI. Post #5 has the results listed.

Darn tooten , but please refrain from calling my rear man part as an alley ! Thankfully it doesn't get that much traffic and before you ask its a one way street . I see on the bottle it says made in the USA and because its so popular there's none left for export . Cheers the pope
Pope- we have the same thing over here but from bulls. They pretty much market them the same way.
Pete- I ragged on Sigman too.
