I'll chime in on mine.
Flying it since August after I had been out of RC for nearly 20 years.
It was a very good plane to start back with.
It surprised me.
It can be very stable and tame.
I have a Saito 100 on mine and use a 15 X 6 APC.
I often fly at WOT, never out of a dive, without any flutter (knock on wood!)
The only wear and tear has been the left wheel pant has been developing cracks since the first flight.
I think it must be some kind of harmonic.
I have just about stopped it with epoxy and milled fiberglass to reinforce from the inside.
I like to compare my UCD 60 to a good ol' dog...it's not a thoroughred but sure nice to have around.

I'll make my comments on the 60 Do. I love the plane. Clearly not the best flyer I own but certainly one of the most fun to fly. After I went to the YS110 from the Saito 100 I fell in love with this plane all over again. For some reason it flys everything better with more power. I fly at high elevation and the Saito was enought, I thought, but the YS puts this baby in a class apart. I have both the Dos. They are some of the best values out there. And if you spend enough time with them you can get them to do anything. My favorite manueuver is the rising flat spin. Not very many planes with handle this stunt. But the Dos do.
Thanks

Has anyone flown or know of anyone that has flown this plane with the saito 120? I have always had the ys 1.10, but, lost elevator control at about 200 ft up (screws came out of servo arms on maiden) and I broke my YS. I seemed to always have problems tuning the YS as I don't have much time to fly so I never really have the chance to tune it right or to learn to tune it right. I was hoping that that saito 120 would be easier to tune and have the power of the 1.10. It appears lighter on the specs and the prop sizes seem comparable if not larger. Anyone have information on the comparison of these engines with this plane?

c016Y....The Saito 150 is more similar to the YS110 in horsepower. The 120 is no where near the power of the 110. However the 120 would surely have enough power for the UCD.
Thanks

Accoding to saito the 150 will swing a 16x8 @9000 rpms? If this is right that should be stronger than a ys 1.10 right? That is about what I was getting out of my 16x6. The 120 15x8 at 9000 and the 125 says it will do a 16x6 @ 9000. That sounds like what the ys 1.10 will do. Are those specs bloated?

I have a Saito 150 that has always run with APC 17X6 @ 9400RPM rich, peaked at 9700. (using Magnum 20/20)If the weight of the 150 is only an ounce or two more than the 120, go with the 150. It will not be too much weight for the UCD. I had a Moki 135 in one and currently have OS 108 in the second one.(I do add tri-stock to the firewalls). The Sa 120 is probably lighter than both of those and should be good power however the props required should be different than the 2 Strokes. I didnt get much thrust using 4-pitch props with 4 strokers, even if using longer blades. I like the 5-pitch wood props or 6-pitch APC best for 4-strokes.The 5-pitch Zinger wood prop actually gave me less RPM than the APC 6-pitch,same length?(I cut the tips on the wood props to match the APC curve)

c016Y, GJeffers is running the new S125 and boasts 13+ lbs. of thrust. Perhaps he will pop in with the details. Joe

co16Y...At first I thought you were talking about the old Saito 120. The YS will put that engine to shame. If you are asking about the new Saito 125, I believe it is on par with the YS110 and is 3 ozs lighter (actual weight, I have both engines and weighed them). I think the Saito 125 would be the perfect engine for the UCD60. Same power as the YS and a little lighter which would make balance easier. Only draw back I can see is the Saito doesn't have a pump so you wouldn't be able to put the tank on the CG.
Thanks

Joe,
Is the standard tank that comes with the UCD .60 able to hold the pressure from a YS 1.10?
Thanks!

Barry, I think he did ask about the S120, I just threw in what I read about the S125 from GJeffers. He has it on the UCD .60 with a 16/6 prop. Personally I don't know anything about it. Joe

Hi Bud,
I still have that new kit in the box and am thinking about slapping it together as I can't sell it for $125.00. I can't remember though, which Dubro hinges do I need to get and where should I figure on sticking the battery with the 110FZ in the nose
? The first one had the FA 100 on a Cline and I think I used the wrong hinges although they held up O.K.

Hey Brian, sorry for the delay, I was staining some cherry. The hinges are Dubro brand, there are a few sizes and I'm going to guess medium. Don't know if they actually spec them for the size of the plane. They might. If I remember correctly, they seemed to be about the width of the CA hinges, as they fit the slot nicely. I'll see what I can dig up. My battery is a 5 cell, in a hatch, half way down the fuze. Maybe thats why its tail heavy and no one else likes to fly it!

I would recommend Klett hinges http://www.klettplastics.com/pages/3/index.htm Much more durable than Dubro. The RK-9 does the job well

barry.. that is exactly what i was looking for.. so the sa 125 is pretty equal to the ys 1.10. I wouldl likely need to throw on a cline reg or perry pump neither of which I have ever needed to used with the ys 1.10. I always had trouble tuning the ys and was thinking maybe the sa 125 would be easier to tune with either the cline or perry. Anybody have any experience in the comparison as far as tuning in this situation?

c016Y...If it was me, I'd run the Saito without the pump. I run my 46 with the tank in the stock location and don't have any problems. I'd try it with the tank in the stock location and if you don't like it then you can add the pump.
I know gjeffers has a pump on his and he swares by them. So he may chime in with his set up.
Good luck
Thanks
Barry

THE DO ROCKS!!! (not wing rock) Did some of the best rolling harriers ever on Saturday, sooooo sloooooow, both the roll and the forward speed. I can see doing it down on the deck someday(beer talking). Even did some harrier landings w/o any damage, problem is they were not in the flight plan!! Who cares, I proudly took credit for them anway!! I have to watch out for the sink rate, when the tail touches you have to be on the throttle already or it might rotate down to the mains,no matter, I'm happy with the results. I dont want to see this thread die yet, since I got my second Do, its been nothing but exilerating, the sky is the limit,or should I say the ground is the limit.

I'm waiting for my servos to come back from service. Past weekend was perfect. High 60's and 70's three days in a row. Now back to more cold and snow. I better pull my tank and see if the stopper shrunk and wake up the 110 while I wait on the servos. Flying season is just about here in the north east. Joe

I would have had the YS110,but for the wait & the rumors about problems,& other guys at my field that had them & couldnt keep em running. They are excellent for power and keeping the weight down-just need to be patient.I,m going back to 2 strokes, put the right one on,anything is possible & cheaper fuel, easy to fix. So,what are people doing with the ("Do's) up there?

There are only two others @ our field, both .46 owned by the same guy. One is electric and one has a Saito 100 on it. The E model kicks butt. There is another .60 at another field with a YS 110. Other than that, I don't know of any others. Joe

Joe,
I know this is going to sound stupid, but were those DS-811'S strong enough for the DO? I don't want to use my set if I should be using a MG servo. Most guys here are using MG servos even in the .46 size. I was going to use this set on a .46 powered fun fly, but have since canned that project. I decided to go ahead and stick the 110 in the UCD kit I have here instead of buying something else. Besides I got my eye on one of those Aeroworks QB Yak 54'S and need to save some pennies

Well, they never failed to hold a surface or ever resulted in flutter. 54 oz. in. torque @ 4.8V. Running 6V adds app. 20% more torque. Consider this, mine weighs 9lbs. So if yours comes out @ the normal weight then they should be that much better. They might still be on special for $29.00 each. I wonder if it was the weight of my plane that wore mine out or just the constant abuse. That reminds me, I gotta call Horizon and see where they are. Joe
