Bought used Saito 1.50 for Showtime. The muffler and manafold pipe no matter how I configure it sticks out behind engine and carb. I really need that room to get engine as close to fire wall as possable. Is it me?. Is there a work around. What's the fix. Dave

DLK,
I have a Saito 120 in mine and had the same problem. To get the motor far enough back I had to remove a piece of the corner of the engine box. Use a dremel and make a hole in the box large enough to fit your muffler then use some fiberglass to make a curved bottom. The fiberglass gives it strength and protects from the heat.

Drum, man that sounds great!!!! Were you doing the flat spins with the SFG? Waterfalls? Do they make those stunts easier?
You are running 110, right?
Very encourageing news.
Thanks,
Barry

this is what i was crying about a million threads ago the plane is designed for an under powered saito 100 if you start spreading the motor mount and cutting into the firewall on a high vibration engine like the saito 150 you are going to tear the thing apart .at least with the funtana 90 you can find a way to work around and put a bigger motor in .i have to say this engine thing has taken all the fun out of this plane and i hate it now ! I give up i just am going to dump this piece of crap!

OS 160 9 lbs RTF.
I wanted to use the inverted Slimline pitts, however it won't fit so its got ugly ass stock muffler hanging out the side.
Battery is behind the canopy and the Rx is way far back and it still a tad nose heavy.
BTW, that's Zane, he built the plane and took a couple of the pics.

YNOT. Did I read your post correctly, you are 9lbs 0ozs with an OS160!?!?!? Wow. That is light. That engine is almost one pound heavier than a 110. Great looking pictures and Zane did a great job on the build. I'd keep him around for some time to come. Does he fly?
Raideron, I'm thinking about you for tomorrows UPS delivery. I hope it makes it in tact. I think you'll really be impressed with the quality. Very nice.
I've got all my gaps sealed (what a drag) but they look pretty good. Mounting the linkages and engine right now. Well not right now, I'm on the computer. But you get the idea.
I'm now getting anxious to fly this plane. I'm hoping mine weighs somewhere in the 8.5 range but based on Drumbum's it'll probably be closed to 9. The Yak is pretty good at about 8.75 but when the temp gets hot she's not enough. It may not be quite enough anyway to do really good hovers and waterfalls. But I'm hoping for the best on this baby.
Drumbum, why don't you do kinda a mini review like I did in the Yak forum on this plane. I'd really be interested to get your points of views an individual stunts etc. Then I could do one from a prospective of lesser experienced pilot. Anyways, I think we could get that kind of thing going and it would really help people know what this plane is all about.
Thanks
Barry

Here are the photos. First time I posted photos here so bear with me. No way will it fit with out carving out firewall like R/C Foolish said. One thing Saito has a flex exhaust pipe. My buddy has one for a SA 100. I have a 100 also and exhaust hole size looks the same. Dave

Staircase: level flight, full down elevator followed by full level elevator, again and again. Kind of a simple move but hard to make semetrical. Down, level down, level. Etc. Etc. But the down should be the same length of the level and straight down and straight level.thanks

I like it.
OS 160 ROCK's it! Flys well at about 1/3 throttle and will go straight up when the motor is opened up. ROCKETS out of a hover.
Rolls great! On low rate its great on high rate its insane.
Harriered very well with no rock.
Lets talk knife edge: Little rudder and zero couple. I have way too much rudder on the high rate and really on the low casue it will over rotate like crazy on a deep snap. Horizon to horizon, no challenge.
Flys very light.
3 points on the center stripe at almost a crawl.
Flys just like a pattern plane, cause it is one. I may go fly it in the next local pattern contest.
I did not throw it around too hard on the test hop and thats all the weather allowed today.
H9 has a winner in the Showtime.

YNOT, thanks for the info. Really does sound like a fun plane. Drumbum...looking forward to your comments. Question: It sounds like the plane has plenty of rudder. Are the SFGs a benefit, do they make some manuvers prettier/easier/better/possible or are they just so much hype?
Thanks,
Barry

One more.Do you fly with the SFGs or without them? Do you even take them with you? Do you plug the wing when you don't fly with them?
Guess that was 3.
Thanks

OK Barry i copied your review and changed the results to be for the showtime, results are IMO
I also instead of going grade system i went with a 1-10 scale for results
Showtime
Hitec 645MGs all the way around except throttle HS 425bb
KOKAM 1500 LiPo on 6V regulator
all stock hardware except tank is 16 dubro
YS-110 on Header with flex pipe
APC 17x4W
KE= 10- I don't think there is any improvement for the KE capabilities of this plane, simply perfect KE at all angles.
Harrier= 7- this plane harriers, but not as great as some planes i have owned-gave it a 7 due to the wing rock I'm experiencing, maybe with a little more tweaking i cant figure it out since some report no wing rock.
Rolling Circles= 9- this plane does excellent rolling circles.but can get very fast and out of hand if not on your toes..
Waterfalls= 8-not quite completely axial on CG but it does them- also very easy to make it turn into a KE spin if wrong rudder input is applied but not bad once used to the way plane tries to fall.
Staircases= N/A haven't tried them
Rolling Harriers= 8- does them real nice and at a nice AOA- it is the only plane i own that I have to switch to low rates for them because it will do them at blinding rate on high and then they become sloppy and impossible for me to keep it at a high alpha- at low rate they are almost as good as the F90,IMO the F90 does them the best of almost any plane Ive flow.
Hover= 9- plenty of rudder authority.also will tork roll fast as you want
Flat Spin =8- I only rated it at an 8 because of the difficulty entering them. after that they are nice and flat and gracefully slow
Flat Spin (upright)= 8- almost the exact same result as inverted.
Durability= 6- my plane had lots of glue joints not glued in the fuse,my canopy tabs one has come loose, my fiberglass wing tube sleeve in the fuse came out with the tube and had to be epoxied back, one of my SFG plugs broke taking it out. i had to CA back together, tailwheel spring in stock location breaks.
Build Quality= 7- alot better than previous h9 planes,if they just wouldn't be so stingy on glue and quit using the brittle white looking glue.
Precision= 10- this plane is very precision and will let you know your skill level (and lack of it) it goes where guided and slips on the thumbs will show exactly in the air.
Overall= 9- overall i thing this is one of the best planes to come out lately.the 9 rating is just because i could say 10 but i don't think any plane is perfect.there is always room for more
these are my Opinions based being as harsh on judgment as i can on a plane i love so well.
