Finally got out to fly mine again. Only got one flight on it last week. I had some Blue Bird 621MGs on the elevators and thay sucked big time. Refitted the plane with 5 Hitec 5645s. Now it has the control authority it needs.
After flying this one, I realized just how different it is than flying profiles. This is my first full-fuse plane in about 3 years. You can't yank it around like a profile and expect it not to snap. It will take me a little while to get used to it. KE was great. Didn't even have to touch the right stick. I stink at harriers, but the ST locked in to them and made it really easy.
One question - I'm having trouble getting symmetrical throws out of the ailerons. they will move a LOT more down than up. Can't get close to the up throws stated in the manual, but down is no problem. I tried to align the servo arm so that it makes a right angle with the control rod. Is that how it's supposed to be? If nothing else works, I'll put some longer arms on the servos and adjust the end points to get the right throw....

Yeah, the ailerons are plenty fast, but I'd like to get the right throw ratio to help with axial rolls. There was a bit of spiraling today. Guess I really need to invest in a throw meter. Trying to measure with a ruler doesn't work too good. Still didn't try the SFGs. Maybe next flight...

Showtimers!
I am having problems with my YS 110. It seems the muffler cuts into the firewall so mounting has been a PITA.
Does anyone have a recomendation as how to get it to fit or a mount or a different muffler that will work?
I am looking at stuff on Central Hobbies for alternative solutions. Any input would be appreciated

matt...I used the 110 on mine. The engine is at the end of the motor mount to allow for the cowl spacing and I didn't have any problems with the muffler hitting the firewall. It's close, but it doesn't hit. There is a picture of mine on page 18 post 450. You can barely see it but you can see how I mounted mine. Maybe you aren't far enough out on the motor mount.THanks

I had the same problem with the stock muffler. Before I started cutting in to aything I got one from
precision performance prodocts. All I had to do was cut a round hole in the cowl inline with the exhaust outlet.Worked great nice neat installation. To take the cowl of just unscrew the muffler.Think they are around $69.00.Or 79 for the one with the swivel header.Hope this will help you out.

How about just mounting the manifold and not the muffler? I got 400 rpm boost after I remove the muffler. The noise is not that bad. Actually, if you buy a Performance Specialty 4-stroke muffler, you will find that the power and noise is about the same as w/ just a stock header. I have a few of these Performance Specialty 4-stroke mufflers. After I lost one of these expensive mufflers in the air, I didn't realize it until I landed, because it didn't sound any different w/o muffler. So, afterall, I spent $70 for a nice looking exhaust diverter.

I'm a big fan of UCDs, I always have two available, one with a YS110, one with an OS 1.08. I'm really liking what I'm hearing about the showtime and looking forward to trying one very soon (birthday in Nov., and my wife is very supportive of the hobby). In any case, I'd like to hear more from anyone who has used an OS 1.08 on one of these. I know it may be a bit much, but I've saved several UCDs with the 1.08 that I couldn't have with the 110 (yes I do push the limits a bit much), and it seems the showtime is at least a pound or two heavier than the UCD.

I love my UCDs also. I have mine with a YS 110 and the smaller one with Saito 82. My Showtime has a YS 110. My UCD with YS weighs 8lbs 1ozs. My Showtime weighs 8lbs 12ozs. The Showtime is a great plane and I feel I have enough power with the 110. I really like the combo. The Showtime flies much more precise than the UCD but is no more fun to fly. But I really do enjoy it. I think the 1.08 would be an excellent engine in it. I've heard good things about that engine. But better than the 110, I don't think so.Thanks

Thanks for the input Barry! Another thing occurred to me, I can't use a cowl with the 1.08 on the UCD (even with a Pitts muff), this doesn't bother me on my UCDs since I now don't even bother to put wheel pants, canopy, cowling on (I'm not about looks on my UCDs). But the ST seems too pretty to do that to. So if someone has one with the 1.08,,,,were you able to get the cowl over it? If not, that will be the final straw and I'll put the YS in it.

Yes my buddy put a 1.08 in his....he had to redrill the holes in the cowling to move it further forward, but it will fit completely inside. He was however running a in cowl exhaust system, don't know which brand....but it fit. I do know it came out of a 1/5 scale PICA mustang. Possibly their own muffler? You can see video of it on my website.

djr...
I have an O.S. 1.08 in mine...side mounted w/ a Bisson Pitts style muffler.
The cowl fits just fine, and only the head sticks out...
The long exh. tubes stick quite a ways out the bottom too, prob. an inch and a half, and the airplane stays surprisingly clean for a 2 stroke.

NeoGenesis, just for your info, I have got my 1.60 installed on the showtime, just ran the engine on Sunday. OUCH OUCH OUCH. was painful holding it back, it has so much power with the 18x6 APC on it. To be honest, it may be too much power, so I suspect that I will need to play with the throttle curve to tame it for my meager skills.
Vibration was present when the plan was left on the ground, but very smooth when i picked it up off the ground. No signs of any structural problems yet, and if work doesnt kill me tommorow, I will maiden it this Sunday. Will try to post some pics if I can.

Just got back from flying my Showtime today at lunch. I've been flying this plane pretty much solely for the last month or so. I must say, it never ceases to impress me. What a wonderful plane. I fly it without the SFG and it's a precision plane. It will do very nice Knife Edge and waterfalls, blenders, rolling circles, hovers and any other thing I can dream up. I really love the way it flys. I've recently got the YS engines tamed and working for me. It's amazing how much better I like the plane when the engine runs good. It makes all the power I need (4800' elevation) and runs sooooo reliable. Today I was doing some high alitude blenders with no throttle to within about 20' of the ground...Bam, I'd hit full throttle and instant throttle response lets me fly right on out of it. Beautiful.
Sometimes I put the SFGs on...this plane is just comical how responsive it is with the SFGs. Wow, what fun. It will high alpha KE at almost an idle and do KE loops fantastic. With the SFGs I can do a stationary pinwheel and just hover there in a flat spin. The waterfalls are the same way, you can just flip over and over without losing any elevation. This plane will really do it all.
There are those on this thread who even claim it flys better than their 35% airplane. The way mine flys, I believe it.
Mike Mcconville... Thank you for making this plane available. You not only have one of the best, if not thee best, flying airplanes out there in this class, but you did it for a measly $259. I for one would pay much more. It would be a good buy at $299. Maybe you should raise the price. Also, the plane comes in right on target at the advertised weight. It flys fast, it flys slow, it flys preciesion, it flys crazy. It truly is a wonderful airplane. Thanks to you and all the others who make this plane available. It is a bargain. It's also available to the masses and it's really two planes in one with the SFGs.
I am so impressed with this plane. The more I fly it the less fault I find. I wonder about the logic of carbon fiber landing gear and an aluminum wing tube. My gear has cracked and my tube is heavy. So far I'm not that impressed with any carbon fiber gear. But I'd rather lose the weight of the aluminum tube. Also, this plane will not do a Knife Edge Coupling as well as my UCDs. It could use a little help there. The tailwheel, Mike what were you thinking when you gave this plane a tailwheel for a full sized airplane???? Man that thing is way too bid. It's the only part I changed out. Everything else I'm using is the stock hardware. Yes....even the fuel tank. I know, they aren't supposed to work with the YS engines, but mine seem to. Oh, and the tires, I changed to Dubro Super Lite 3" because I fly off of grass and needed a little more height.
Anyways, just a quick 60 day report on my Showtime. This really is a nice flying airplane.
Congratulations to Mike for a job well done. This plane is certainly a keeper.
Thanks
Barry

Raideron, fix the Do first. That's the only logical thing to do. Then build the Showtime. Man, you'll really like it. I used Dubro pinned hinges on mine. Thanks

What a great flying airplane. I decided to try the Showtime and come into the modern ages. No 3D stuff.....yet, just getting the rust knocked after an over 10 year RC absence. I had a trusty 108 laying around from an old Goldberg Ultimate and some new "old" servos from a never completed project. Below are my specs. If you all see anything bad wrong please advise, it won't hurt my feelings!
Airtronics RD6000
OS 1.08FSR
Zinger 16-5
Tru-Turn
Rudder Hitec HS615BBMG
Elevator 2- Hitec HS605BB's
Ailerons 2- Hitec HS605BBMG's
Throttle Airtronics 94102
I have only had it out to the field twice but this bird groves better than my Prettner Calypso and at a much slower speed. The 108 has enough power to save thy bacon and will take it out of sight from a hover. I do not have it well trimmed out yet and there is a very little bit of coupling or pulling in KE, I forgot which LOL and requires no down elevator in inverted flight, a first for me! Something must be a little out of whack with my setup. I do watch the speed on the downlines and throttle back. My balance point is closer to 7 1/4 than 7 7/16 with the tail mounted rudder servo. All stock hardware and fuel tank used. It is on charge right now and I have a fresh gallon of Omega 15% ready to go. Winds tomorrow 5-10 mph right down the field. Like I said, if you all see anything bad wrong with my setup please advise. Thanks in advance!
