Me thinks you are beginning to realise the truth....!
the wood for this model has cost less than 25 quid (i did buy the non cnc pack at £10) and i cant afford to pay a machine £30 or more to do a bit of work for me, aeromodelling is aeromodelling and i enjoy all of it, i may have blistered fingers
at the end of it but on the other hand ( pun intended) ill have a fantastic model and know that i made every bit of it.

one thing you have to realise about Cartman guys, and that goes for our club really... this is what we do
any kit brought plane has the plans copied for future use if anyone wants one, thats the reason we have people ( companies ) comming to us for plans of the orginial President FunFly! we "might" just have something to do with the foam wing on the Magnum too, to us known as the Cornetto, a cheap copy
still, i think Cartmans NUTS!!!! its CNC kit is perfectly priced. He wont fit and then glue, thats for sure
One argument you cant use is time and £ per hour for own cutting, it doesnt work that way or no one would still be kit building, its the enjoyment of doing it, however, making the kit in the first place isnt my idea of enjoyment, at least one this big and complicated!
Anyway, I'm having a full kit, looking at prices i might get the CF UC but i want a propper office so plastic canopy it is, i'll send a shopping list soon Archie, as for the comp, i won't be in the first 20
but it'll sure look damn good, if it comes out the way i want it.
PS, great avatar Archie, i have a spinning Capiche logo for my website now
So.. what nicknames can we give Cartmans Capiche, with its loose fit
parts... Copiche?

thanks go to the Capiche Webmaster for making me one small enough to fit the requirement of this site - I mean 7.5k ! He had to chop frames down by over a 3rd, so its a bit jerky now and pail..... not as good as the one on the site .....
Have you clicked on it by the way for the 3D big version you can move around ? Its quite neat.
That reminds me, we were supposed to do some drawings to download for people to sample their own colour schemes.
Another job for the "To Do" list !

Hi,
I've been keeping an eye on this thread for a while now as i'm quite impressed with the Capiche (sic)!
But just goin back to Mr. Stein's crash at Sandown (sorry to re-open old wounds!) why did the wing fail (or at least its mount) in Knife edge?I wasn't there so i'm only going off what was said here but t just seems odd since knife edge isn't particularly (normally at least) stressfull on the airframe. I'm not trying to be clever or anything, i'm just curious is all. At least its known that the packing wil stop it happening again.
Its a shame about the crash but theres something worryingly satisfying about seeing a plane turn into model pate, spread all over the field isn't there? Or is that just me and i'm sick or something?! Anyway no offence meant PV. Oh incidentally do you (stein) know if theres a fun-fly nats on this year since the Power nats are off? I know other disciplines are looking to hold there comps else where...
Anyway this is a capiche thread! and i have to agree the guy who's cutting out all of the stuff is a nutter! Anyway well done Malcom Corbin and the test crew - nice little ship you got there.

Actually Surprisingly, Knife edge is quite a strain on an airframe - particularly on wings and tails. But it is likely it was just a timing issue. With the packing piece not in place and that large bolt/nut PV used, it was on its way to destruction well before that manouvre.
The luckiest situ would have been a heavy landing for the last straw to break on the camels back but hey thats the game we play.
I know what you mean about Model Pate - when its someone else's, but we were all a bit gutted about Phil's cos he really really did love the plane - kept saying how he was growing to like it more and more. We really have made a very capable 3D plane, which ias also smooth in aerobatics. Gutted too for the Guernsey Guy, Dave Wilkinson, who put on a solid performance all weekend only to suffer the same outcome - he didnt have the plate packer either, but thankfully everyone else did !
Anyway, new fuselages are heading out to those guys so they can get capiching again......

Gismo,
The knife edge was quite high stress due to the fact I was flat to the knocker trying to get a nice smooth low knife edge through all the orrible turbulence. The wind was kicking it about alot, I think thats what did it in the end.
Erm, I know what you mean about watching other peoples planes crash, I was quite proud of how good it looked hitting the floor.
I was a bit cheesed off cos its a good plane but I've been flying and crashing long enough for it not to bother me.......had that been my new Extra, then it would be a very different story. Lets not even think about that!!!!!!
Erm, Nats, yes there will be a funfly, we were talking about it at Sandown. Details will follow cos no-one knows what we're gonna do yet but you'll hear about it in due course. I think Robin Jones(funfly CD) may even organise something but you will know, don't worry.
Sorry Archie, veering off the subject again!!!
I will say again, the Capiche falling to bits is nothing to do with the design.

but I would love to see a video of the Capache electric or glow...
thinking of building one, of the size to judge 5lbs should be possible.

We do not have any video footage of the Electric one yet, although a friend in the UK has apparently taken some footage from the Sandown show and has promised us a copy. We will then look at getting some video on the site.
All I can say is that the set up works very well.
Best set up we had so far with the Kontronik 6.7:1 gearbox was 16 cells on a 17x9 prop.
We feel there is scopy perhaps to drop a couple of cells and go lower ration gearbox 5.2:1 will be tried next. With 15x8 prop.
We hope to see one tested soon with an outrunner too, probably the new AXI can.
Subscribe to the Capiche Newsletter thru the Contact US page and you will here about updates to the site and the electric news/video as and when

Archie!
thanks for your answer!
In that size of plane 14cells is probably good, swinging a 18" prop or so...
hope to se a video soon (glow or electric doest matter)

On this gearbox, I found the 17x9 better than the 18x8.
Whilst we used a folder, the u.c is tall enough for a 18" standard blade. We just couldnt lay our hands on a solid blade easily when we needed one.

Archie its repaired after your umm!! arrival
Sure Dave and I will be at bickley we hope!!
AVI file of the capiche50E is on its way to me as we clatter the keyboards.
I spoke to Mark Woods at Irvine and the new 17x10apc E is due soon!!!!!!!! That should be the blade for my toy.
I think my motor is to highly geared to be perfect the 5.2 ratio seems very promising to me. More scope for pitch and blade diameter relative to cells. Mine is always going to need big blade lowish rpm's I will have a good long chat with John Emms of Puffin motors tomorrow about the new AXI 14 cell motor which looks to be smack on the money for the Capiche 50 E
We will see tomorrow weather permitting

Hi Phil,
going back to your crash at sandown i could have sworn i saw your model just start into a negative snap roll just before the wing came off and the spinning fuselage flew down the racecourse. Whether this was just part of the process of the wing coming off- i don't know(expect that i am probably wrong), but the failure would seem more plausible if you had gone into a knife edge snaproll at full power. Am i right? I know your feeling about not caring much about crashes- if my funtana to be goes in i will probably cry or hurl my FF9 across the field, but with my other models i just start laughing. You are right- i shouldn't think about it. You sort of become desensitised to sport model crashes when your used to it! Has anyone thought of making a double size TOC style Capiche with 120" wing span? That would be cool!

Phil is unlikely to reply as he went on holiday today.
A couple of people thought Phil was just about to enter a hi speed snap!! Phil assured me he wasnt. I think the planes roation was part of the wing leaving the fuzz.
With the packing missing and 6mm STEEL bolts wound down tight Phil's wing bolt plate was broken before he left the ground!!!
Sad lesson but he has a new plane to fly when he gets back from his hols

Baron UK - Try http://www.e-flight.co.uk/apc-e_propellors.asp?page=2 They list that APC and others as in stock. I guess they buy direct from the US as the prices are way lower than my LHS.
Looking forward to hearing about the AXI setup. I have some of their smaller motors and am a fan.
Have been thinking about moving up a size with my electrics and having seen the Capiche at Sandown was mighty impressed.

I manged to pick up a 17"x8" E from John Swain of "Fanfare" today at Bickley Electric do. But just before its flight the models fifth of the day the motor shot its bolt!!! I have to send back to Kontronic tommorow looks like a pole has dropped out as it runs but cavitates badly. Didnt stop it flying well up till then. First failure from Kontronic I have had without hitting the deck
The leccy will do all the stuff the IC model does but a little more caution is necessary as to when the cells dump!! and they do it real quick!! Must be well balanced pack?
More testing required but getting there

Anyone out there know whats going on??
Kontronic are getting back to me soon I hope
