ive got a brand new irvine 46 im thinking of using, what do you guys think,
can i get away with standard 3001's on surfaces
i noticed one of the display models had standards and it was ok
Cabainstrut.
The capiche i was flying at sandown (red white and blue on) had Futaba 3004 (cheapest servos they do) and an irvine 53 and would torque roll on 60% throttle and flip harrier wall etc no problem. it is very important to get the geometry right on the linkages no point having a 10 kg servo driving a linkage that can only push3 kg!!
I think that your set up Will be fine

fact is we are only keeping him in the club because we have a bit of control over him, he would be very dangerous as a 'loose cannon' flying anywhere he likes

I'm gonna have a West 53, personaly 3001's is the least i'll want to use for surfaces, maybe sommit more for that rudder, but as long as they arnt over 20 quid each i'll go with what evers recomended.. Futaba only, i do wanna land it my self each time

umm... thats still 80 quid in servos!!!!!

There were two disintegrations of Capiches on sunday- involving the wing coming off! Dave caught his fault in his before it happened when he showed us that his wing was wobbily attached to the fuselage.
It appeared that both wing mounting plates had not been glued when the kit had been snapped together- this could well have been the problem with the other two.

That could be the problem with build then glue!
one cure... make a little mark on each edge to be glued, hell, number them, then start counting
cure two, don't build with one week left to a display

Phillybaby,
Mine was one of the 2 that went in at Sandown. I did glue the plate in but the wing bolt was large which resulted in the captive nut removing alot of the wood from the mounting plate and it went across the hole during a pretty fast knife edge low pass.
These things happen, just gotta get another built quickly!!

Fantastic flying by the Island Hobbies Capiche flying team, especially the shortish stocky bloke wth dark hair, he was the highlight of Sandown for me.
Pity about those wings coming off, I thought that only happened to ARTF planes, hope it is not a design problem like Weston have with there Hype's.

The bloke you are talking about is "Phil Vandries" and for me was one of the best!!
It was sad to see his model crash on such a cracking low knife edge pass!! but from what I can gather he quite likes it
Paul Skinner announced it the "Best 3 d plane of this size he has ever flown"
Sandown is a real To***t to fly at. Phil was I am affraid the victim of a lesson learnt to all of us. His model was built well, but without the instructions!! It is very easy to overtighten the wing bolt plate. Hence the instructions say "To pack out the plate to avoid over tightening" Might have been handy in hindsight to have sent Phil the instructions
Lowest and best prophang goes to Phil. Lowest torque roll went to Paul Carr
The rudder was touching the matt!!!
Fastest harrier goes to Paul Skinner (boy his planes on steroids) C.P.L.R well he gets the honour of the lowest knife edge pass. I swear it was less the 6" off the deck at one point
If you allow for the s**t conditions I would have to say the team was simply top drawer.

Oh you might mean "The Boy" he is short dark and stocky!!
Dave has always been a top show pilot very very capable.
Even better than that he is always reliable and a fantastic asset to any team.
His model truly was a budget setup!! Not that you would have noticed
Must be cos he spent all that dosh on the Boxer and the merc
Best Harrier goes to Archie plonked his on the mat from 300 feet straight down.
He also get the award for the worst landing

Good to hear its not so much a design problem. packing, check.
Don't worry about covering Cartman, i got sommit floating in my head...
oh yes i had a question about customs ( BOOOOOOOOOOO ) that i might not have understood or missed on the news letter.
if i understand right the parts are without VAT so we might get a bill from our deal old money grabbing gov.. however, past experiance has shown anything over 18 quid in value being posted into the UK gets another charge. When a RCU buddy sent me two home vids the value was $40, i had to pay 9 quid to even collect them from the post office! so i wouldnt fancy seeing the bill for all the gear i'll be requesting, and if someone then dares ask for VAT on top of that too! :boxing: .
I know 7DayShop, also on your sunny isles, get around this by sending your order in as many packets of 18 pounds or under as possible to avoid this dredded "postal handeling charge"
Whats the deal with Island Hobbies or am i missing the point?

Well well well... havent we all been busy !
Loved all the multi spelling of Capiche - had quite a giggle.. Maybe we should have a competition for the most amusing spelling !
There is much to tell....... but I have literally just got home and I am ker-nackered to say the least.
Dont know what Baron means about worst landing !!?? Best of a bad situ Id say, and then a jolly old dose of bad luck...
These things happen...... and as one of you put it even to the best of 'em.
I'll get back on tomorrow and try to answer some of the questions posed on here officially !

Very different conditions in that pic!!! It was calm and a very open site!!!!!!! No way could I duplicate that at Sandown
You would need the demo pilot list to achieve that there.
Just to give them recognition here they are Cheers guys:
Christophe P L R
Archie
Dave Stephens
Paul Skinner
Phil Vandries
Paul Carr
Mike Williams
Dave Wilkinson
Steven Munns
Top drawer
As said you is the amongst the best.

Hi there everybody.......
Guess what, I found myself in the UK for a 4 day stop so I went along to your Sandown show....... mainly to see CPLR but also out of curiosity for the Capiche. It was pretty good weather for the spectators all weekend but clearly not so great for the pilots some times - I saw the wind flag going in all sorts of directions.
It was definately worth the 9 pounds entry fee and my hat goes of to you brits for doing such a great job in such a small place.
Anyway, I dropped in to compliment the Capiche boys........ excellent display - matbe you need to rehearse a bit more together, it seemed a bit chaotic sometimes but that is a terrific airplane you have there.
I really felt for the guy in the wheelchair, that was a bad spot to loose your engine.... but it was nice to see the planes being flown by pilots in a normal way aswell as a 3D way....
I liked the harriers as you call them, expecially when the guy with the red and white one had a race with the boy's Capiche I think... he came flying past real fast - he must have up aileron mixed in I think. I saw another plane in the Supertigre slot harrier right onto the run way - that was a good move and Im sure it was a Capiche too but the PA guy didnt seem to be saying much at the time and I was up in the stand so I could see properly for sure... only saw it once and didnt see it in the Capiche slots so maybe it was somthing different?. We clapped anyway.
I had to laugh when the guy on the PA said it wasnt a fun fly, and one of the guys came in and hovered/prop hanged right down to the grass! I have checked out the website and seen the section and I agree its not fun fly but it surely does a good impression of one, but with the advantage of better penetration in the wind like an aerobatic model. You guys should organise a Mini Freestyle competition like the TOC, but for small planes - those 2 metre planes like CPLR are great but cost a lot of money...
One of my favourite bits was watching the boy.... still think you got a nice bum.... and was surprised how easily I could identify you from your picture posted on one of the other threads somewhere way back. Was gonna give ya a shout but I was a bit shy and my husband was with me too and he gets a bit funny about me chatting to the lads.
Anyways, I have to go, Im in Paris France now and due to leave this afternoon.... I just wanted to say that I thought the Capiche was fantastic stuff.... now when do we get to see it in the US?

So, with Sandown being so dangerous, why is the event still there? i know when i went up i couldnt believe the only grass was the strip, we all stood by the fence, loads of people in the grandstand to hit and more behind it that wouldn't even know out of control plane was comming in, then outwards you've got another car park, the golf course is the only safe bit to crash in.
for the vendors its a great place, just marred by the lack of safety for pilots.
Cartman: i dunno if i'll have mine ready by the display, the Capiche fund is currently....222.50 and still no job.
im going for a all in one go jobby, so maybe come the end of the month me and Archie can sort out the shopping list.
The sheds gonna need a huge sort out first.
for coving, i aint tell you nowt, it's not gonna be even close to anything you do and nothing like i've ever done before, tho i'm gonna try and keep it sort of traditional at the same time...

OOOOOOhhhh Please lets not get started about Sandown safety on this thread. Im sick of reading it everywhere else !
I presume Philly your comment was in response to something Mr Duo (or is it Missus !?) said about the size of the place. I dont think that was a comment about safety - not how I read it anyway.
Finalising the Island Hobbies Capiche 50 Price Lists now and will email to all subscribers before we put it up on the site, which will be tomorrow I hope.
Busy busy busy....... Phone aint stopped this mornin !
