Just got back from the maiden flights. Had a good time. Don't want to mess up this thread, so if you want to read about it go to the Harrier thread.Have a great day. It's raining here...and I'm on the computer instead of flying. (Gag)
Thanks
Barry

Nice Barry..... I almost got a "new" used one( 2 flts) for a super great price
but did not...
Since the thread already off-thread
CeeGee..... You really like your Katana?..... Don't know how, but... I may
dive into the v2...... See how much I dislike fixing
Just have to figure out the pick-up will go... Have to hide it from the boss or
I may not be able to fly again
Great morning at the field with my 4*.... But I also got "spanked" They told
me to do that "Stuff" off to the side of the runway
To put the thread back inline.... I almost picked up another new "Do"...
Thought I had it for $113..... But NO[:@]
but did not...

Very nice looking plane. [8D] Are you still flying the Showtime?
Ron, Take the plunge! The Katana is awesome. Almost as nice as the..... no, I won't go there. But it is a real nice flyer. Knife edges forever. I imagine the V2 is the same just a little more $. But then it does come apart for transpo.
I had a little incident with the UCD today. For some odd reason the durned thing deadsticked. [>:] I managed to just make it to the end of the runway but it came down hard and bent the landing gear [X(] but beefing up the LG really helped out a lot. [8D] No damage to the plane at all. (short of bending the gear legs) [8D]

CeeGee...The Harrie feels like it will be a fun airplane. Probably limited to vertical stunts mostly. The wide fuse makes it feel odd when trying flat spins. But I only flew it twice and it was windy. I now have 4 planes up and running. I'll probably take a break from the Showtime for a few weeks and fly this thing. The Showtime is in need of maintenance. Nothing major but I have 49 flights on it and the control horns are coming loose, the valves need adjusting, the landing gear needs a bit of attention and the monokote is peeling a bit here and there. The beauty of multiple airplanes is you can take your time with stuff and do it "right" and still not sacrifice flying time. On the other hand...I feel compelled to keep them all in "flyable" shape. Lots of time...But it's a labor of love.
Glad you didn't damage your UCD much. Deadstick...maybe you ran out of fuel. You may need a timer. I have one for sale if you do. Cheap.
Thanks
Barry

Hi Barry, Good to hear from you. [8D] 49 flights on the Showtime? You're definately flying it way too much. You'd better send it out here. It is nice to have more than one plane, for that matter more that 3 planes. They could be in the repair hangar for quite a while (ask Ron) and you still have to be able to fly.
I do need to check to see if I did run out of fuel in the Do. I don't think so though. So I just parked it and flew my Katana. I think my Do is ready for some maintainence too. I do have a talking timer but have never taken it out of the box. It probably sounds kind of garbled when it's talking in the box. [:-]
I read your posts about the Harrier. Sounds neat. I read the other stuff about the Mayhem and I think I'm going to have to get one of them. [8D] Sounds like a neat plane and one that would suit me. I just sold a book on Ebay yesterday for $315.00 [X(] so I see a YS 110 in my future. I mentioned to my wife last night that next year I was going to be needing to fly a bigger plane and she said "why would you need another plane?" [X(] Can you imagine that? They just don't understand, do they? I'll have to get her something really nice for Christmas or her birthday. Kind of butter her up, take her to dinner, even do the dishes. Then I'll spring it on her. [8D] "hey honey, guess what I bought" [8D]

CeeGee... I was lookng for profiles/3d on ebay and did not see any others..
Still thinking about it:-) But I have to buckle down... $$$ is pretty tight... But
the Boss walked in my puter room, when I was looking at the Bad Boy v2 &
OMP's planes and she says not another one, I said maybe..... And she didn't
say anything and walked out the room... So I guess it's alright?????
Is the person/place.. deals4cameras?? I seen his kantanas, and a Bad Boy
v2.. I emailed him on the bad boy... I did not like the, All items are sold as is..
And he would not change it... so............ I was also just going to get another
NIB "Do" at $113... But let it go, because it was from the same guy:-(
I do like the hovers closer to me, which means over the runway, and I tend to
walk out on the runway somewhat :-( But I do watch and clear as anyone
comes around etc... For the most part, they all don't mind, and they say they
like to watch me.... But we're starting to get more people now at the field....
And I forget sometimes in the heat of the moment :-( It's no problem though.

Ron, Well I don't see the guy selling on there now. Maybe he ran out. His selling ID is "nsupply" .... He had a bunch of them on there that he said his was liquidating for the manufacturer. Hmmmmm......

My new Magnum XL 70 arrived last week and I installed it over the weekend. It replaces a Super Tigre G.61 2-stroke that didn't seem to be very happy in the UCD.46. Maybe it was the inverted position that caused it to quit half-way through most flights. Very annoying, to say the least. Anyway, I put 3 flights on my new Magnum this morning and all I can say is, FANTASTIC!!! It runs perfectly, even to the point that not only is the engine still idling after landing, I can taxi the airplane back to me and it will come to a complete stop while idling! I don't think it gets much better than this.
While installing the new Magnum (it fit perfectly into the G.61 bolt-holes) I gave quite a bit of thought to the less-than-ideal fuel tank location. As most of you are aware and have commented on, the tank it too high in relation to the inverted engine carburetor. Well, I decided to leave the fuel tank in the stock position and give it a try, and planned to move the tank lower if I couldn't get a consistant needle settings, etc. Well, it appears moving the tank won't be necessary. The Magnum runs so good, it's just incredible.
Interestingly, the Magnum with muffler weighs about 7 ounces less than the G.61 with muffler. I did a CG check and it was about 1/8" ahead of the rear limit (6" aft of the leading edge of the wing). I didn't feel real comfortable with that, so I moved my battery pack forward to the empty bay just behind the fuel tank. This didn't make a huge change in CG, but surely gave me peace of mind. Today's flights revealed that vertical hovering (something new to me) are quite easy to do, even without switching the dual-rates to high. Also, the Mag 70 held the hover easily at not much more than half throttle. After what I've read on this forum, that surprised me. I thought it would take about 3/4 throttle or more. I'm running the new engine real rich, also.
Anyway, all I can say is YEEEEEEEEEEEEEHA!!!

Kaos...Sounds like you've found the winning combonation. These are ripping good airplanes. One note though: I don't think most people have had to change the fuel tank on the 46. It seems to work fine where it's at. The 60 size is the one with that problem. Just mention that so newcomers won't stray away thinking the need to do a bunch of modifications. From the sounds of your posts, the Magnum may be the way to go.
Oh guys...I've just about got my new 46 done. Well actually I'm repairing an old 46, but it's just about done. Now I need some information from gjeffers and Raideron. I'm probably going to beat both of you. I've got an 82 coming for this one. I'm anxious to know if gjeffers put an 82 in his. And Raideron, how's the 100 coming in yours? I suspect I'll have mine ready by Saturday. I've been away too long. Got to get a UCD going again. I've got a new 60 size too but I'll probably wait until winter to put that one together. I'll be putting another 110 in that bad boy. I was sure having fun with the last one until my range check failed.
I've been goofing around with a Harrier the last 3 trips. It's fun to fly. Very UCD like actually. It's a waterfalling fool. Just makes me grin. But it doesn't flat spin like the UCDs.
Anyways, hope everybody's doing well and flying good.
thanks
Barry

BTW, how'd you guys like my throttle linkage? The throttle pushrod for the old Super Tigre G.61 didn't line up at all with my new Magnum XL 70, so out of laziness (I didn't want to move the pushrod) I made an idler arm and bracket to transfer the push-pull movement back to the Magnum's carb. It only took about 15 or 20 minutes of my time and works great. Meanwhile, I can't wait to get back to the flying field and bore some holes with my UCD.46. FINALLY, I'm having fun with this airplane!

Barry.... Well, It's like this..
The 100 is still in the 4*.. That maybe what
I'm flying in the funfly
if I don't get the profile back together... I did try
the 15X6.... Guess I get a bit more speed, but the spool up seems the same
and I get more air with the 16X4... So... For me bigger is better
))
I even got the ST out... But thought better of that for now..
I started on the "Do" but... I need to get another throttle linkage. I guess
from it laying on the table so long it fell on the floor and it took some damage
from my chair... That's what I get..
Kaos... Glad the mag is working for you.. I've seen one run good in our last
fun fly... But the three at the field is kinda iffy at low throttle...
Sounds like that's not the case with yours... You'll have a ball
Whats your thoughts between the two engines?

Just wanted to give my .02 worth.
I have only ben flying for 3 months now. I have had my ucd for a month now.
It was my second plane. First was a Nexstar. My ucd has a Saito 82. This plane flys awesome!!!!
It is so much better to fly than the nexstar. I have named the Nexstar my crooked flyer.
I always had problems with the Nexstar!! The ucd is simply just the best plane in the world to me..
I know I have not flown too many but I just don't see how it can get any better!
I have learned so much off this thread that I got building it right the first time! Thanks to all of you!!
Tonight I had the 19th and 20th filght right in my yard!! Always make me nervous because there is less good places to land than at the local club but when you got a crowd wanting to see the ucd in action what r you going to do!!!!!!
Having a little trouble with hovering longer than 7 or 8 seconds. Everything else seems to be going ok though. Any advice? My cg is on the front end of the span. Do you think it would help me to move it back a little? I take all of your guys advice to heart so let me have it!!!
Also can you explain to me what a flat spin landing is? Don't think I got the cahunas to try it yet but just gotta know what it is!!
Thanks!! Gone2theriver

, will post the rebuild when i start, cant wait,(especially back to the normal hours) and my new pete should be hitting the assembly line any day now[8D]
Ron, what does this 4* sook like? a guy at a field in yuma showed me his 4* but it didnt look like the one on towers site, just wondering

GTR, you dont want to do a inverted flatspin landing, could crack your canopy[&:]
is your ucd needing constant right rudder input, if so you might need to go with a degree or two of right thrust, 1 deg right and 1deg up helped mine with the saito 100 but yours might be different, the 100 made it pull a lot to the left so i needed a little right.
Landing in your yard-------- what a plane!!!!!!!!!! HUH!!!!!

Kaos, Again kudos on your success. It's great isn't it? And they are so fun to fly.
Barry, Great to hear your getting your 46 going again. Anything I can do to help with the 82?
Hey Gary, Where've you been man? I was thinking of you today since I was the only one at the flying field. There were several flyers when I first showed up but they left as soon as I got there. (maybe I smelled funny......[:-]) Anyway, I normally would have left but it's suppose to rain soon so I wanted to get some flying in. I have never flown alone before but it turned out to be really cool. [8D] I decided to practice some tricks that I do usually do and man! I had fun. [X(] It was really cool.

Geffers,
No.. Flys so straight!!! That is the main reason I love it so well. Hovering problem is probably my lack of exp. But I will keep at it untill I get it!!
Come on you gotta let me in on this flat spin landing!! You gonna make me beg? Canopys Are only $7 if that is the worst I ever do..
Who am I kidding I have done worse than that already...
Have a good one
