Barry... professional.... Yeah right... I wish.. Long way from it... But I spend
enough on fuel to try and learn to get better... It was a fun day

Rob, I use a T.T. 2" wide blade spinner... They fit like it's made for it...

Now I'm not sure... Put the 100 back on the "Do" or the S-82...... MMmmm..

Barry, I'd REALLY like to know what you do for the little woman of the house to get her to allow you to put your birds on HER rug--dripping castor or after run oil all the time--just to take nice pix.

Jack211...

She doesn't mind them setting there, too bad. I usually don't leave them there too long. Just to take a snapshot or two. She does get a little irritated though when I break the engines in, in the house. The smoke bothers her.

Thanks
Barry

Oh, gosh, Barry, I can't understand that, at all. I had MY wife attend the AMA approved, Dr. Phil Rehabilitation Seminar for R/C flyers' wives. She often looks a bit gray now, but she doesn't complain any more about my breaking in engines indoors. That's the good news. The BAD news is she now wants an R/C BOAT, with one of those 11 horse power engines, $1695 bucks.

How many UCDs is that?

Hello All
Was wondering if anyone uses Perry pumps on UDCs? I know Barry has YS's with built in pumps. gjeffers uses Cline Pressure valve (cost $50+). I have a Cub that has the tank center 1/2" lower than center of carb.
Afraid it won't draw fuel good enough. Anyone have any thoughts? My UCD has no such problems.

dougwill...

What engine? If you're using a 4 stroke I think it will pull the fuel. I ran a Saito 150 on Funtana for 40 flights or so with the tank about 6" back from the engine. It actually ran fine without any pump of any kind. I didn't like the plane much but the engine ran good.

I think the 2 strokes don't pick up the fuel quite as well but I'd try it. My guess is it would work. Try it and find out. Afterall...what could happen?!?!?!
Thanks

i agree with Barry Doug, a half inch isnt a big deal if its a four bangar, my edge w/saito 100 is exactly that and it has no probs at all like that, just a little more smoke when inverted

Thanks Barry, gjeffers
It is a Saito 65. I haven't fired ity up yet. Will try it with a ground stake first and make sure it will run and burn the whole tank. This plane has an 80" wing and I know it won't land dead stick as easy as UCD. I usually fly the UCD till it runs out of fuel. You know how easy they land. Now what would a picture of a Cub inverted 2 feet off the ground be worth. nightmares Here is something gjeffers should try if pic come thru. 4 UCDs.

Doug, Nice picture........[X(] If I hadn't seen the trees and grass I would have thought for sure that was Gary flying those four U Can Do's at the same time. [8D] Trees and grass! Oh! Maybe that's Barry! [X(] Naw, can't be. It's still a winter wonderland out in his area......

Pricing Alert!!!!!!

March is the best time to buy your UCD46. Starting today Tower has them for $129.99. If you are a super club member that includes free shipping.

That's the lowest pricing all year. And it's a heck of a buy for a wonderful plane.

I usually buy one or two just to have them around. So far I've needed the extras.

No kidding...it's a lot of ARF for $130.

Thanks
Barry

Tower has $20 off any order of $125 or above making the cost of the UCD $129.99

Barry, I finally got my Can Do 40 back in the air today (OS .61, Master Airscrew 13x5), yet I have a difficult time getting excited about my Can Dos, 40 or 60. They are pleasant, undemanding, predictable birds who give one a great sense of control. Landings are easy; they float forever. I hover, inverted spin, do walls, and reasonably good waterfalls with both birds. But they don't have the challenge and passion of a Twist, or even OMP's Katana V2 .46. The long tail-moment seems to sap their excitement and verve.

What do you DO with your Can Do that gives you the most pleasure? Where can I take the Can Dos that will excite me? Should I put the Saito 1.0 on the Can Do .40? Will that give it zip and passion? Tomorrow I may fly the Can Do inverted over the pond and try to mark the snow, fluffy and deep just now, with the tail or the prop, whichever is highest. I'll either have some great pix or plant some balsa in the pond, whereupon all the above questions will be moot.

The $129 buck price on the Can Do is enticing, and I can always use another, dependable, bird in the hangar, but I'd rather get another Twist, for $99.

J.

Jack211...

My favorite maneuver is the inverted flat spin landing. The UCDs do them with class.

I had a Twist with a Saito 82. Sold it and I've bought 5 UCDs.

Thanks

Another fun maneuver is the Knife Edge Coupling. Mine does them well. Sometimes I don't even need a radio mix.

Thanks

One of the personal favorites of mine is the landing gear drop after the pancake landing from a stalled hover. It gives me chills every time I perform this manuver.

Well, I DID have an exciting day with the Can Do .46, with an OS .61. I found out what overdriving, overpowering the tail feathers looks like--and what happens when you do. It was 250 yds. away, down wind, gusting to 22mph. I decided to bring her back, right into my face, full power. (I can't DO that, overpowered, as it is--I've told myself a 1000 times.) Well, she was picking up speed, straight into the wind, straight level at 50 feet. At 60 yards I saw the elevators flapping like I never had, like the nightmare. The wind prevented my hearing the tell-tale buzzing sound, about which we've all heard.

I cut the throttle immediately, of course, and saw the starboard elevator flapping in the breeze, wondering why the thing stayed in the air. I landed her, the port elevator and ailerons overpowering the problem with the starboard elevator. The starboard elevator had shaken so hard, the nylon keeper on the servo arm disappeared, leaving the control rod hanging off the horn.

There was also a piece of balsa missing, 1/4 inch by... 4 in or so, over the port side of the horiz stabilizer at the fuse. (???) The stab would move with my fingers, up and down, on that side. It's an easy fix. Nothing was really broken.

I dare say, it was the most challenging, exciting, and perfect landing of the day.

J.

P.S. What does one call the FORWARD part of the elevator, the part that helps equalize the pressure on the servo, the part that goes UP when the aft portion goes DOWN?
I call it a "tongue," but I suspect that's not the real name.
