cdmonsalve... I'm unsure of your question.... The wing does come apart with the
two screws that's recessed into the belly pan...
Hi all..... Well I just got off the phone with the post office
(... They have an
automated thing.. And once I put my number in, it said inable to find???? Anyway
it trans.. me to a live person(I think) She asked when did I send it back, I say
12/26... She said it's to early yet for it to be in our system.... I said a few things
and all I heard from her was her breathing into the phone... Then says to check
back in two weeks and it should be in the system...$%^*^%#
Guess I should have fixed my "Do's" wing.... A few mins of work.... But now
months of waiting........................
On another note... I maidened the V2.... WoW... She flys nice, only did a half a
tank on the first flt., But great inverted flat spin, nice harrier, Hovers like shes
on a wire
and almost hands off K.E. and H.A.K.E.
It only needed one click of ail and elev. for hand off flying, inverted also
)
And lands like silk.. I check all, It checked good so topped off the tank for a
better test... Take-off was great, But as soon as I was heading back up the field..
The YS dies and I see something white falling:-((... She takes the dead stick in
stride and lands smooth... Then I see.... No fuel tank
... Even the mighty YS
needs fuel....
I find the tank, then see that the front tank strap snapped????? No stress on it
But the worse part since the tank was full as she dislodged itself... It cracked
the tank on impact
(( So less than a tanks worth of flying.... But WoW......
I LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!!

raideron...Congrats on a good 1/2 tank flight. With all the BS I hear about YS I'm a little surprsied they need fuel.
Concerning the post offfice...make them an offer. Tell them you'll take it out in stamps!!!!
Man if they keep going up it'll cost more to mail the plane than buy it.
The V2 profile seems like a nice plane. I've been thinking about a profile, but I just can't quite seem to muster up the steam to buy one. I've been looking at the OMP 65" YAK ARF. It would go with my........YS!?!?!?!?!? But I don't think I'm gonna get one. At least not yet. I would like to fly one though. I'll bet they're fun.
Can your V2 do an inverted "rising" flatspin? I'm guessing yes, but I'm curious.
Jack211....
I weigh everything. Can't help myself. At my elevation it is difficult to get a favorable power to weight ratio. So I build the lightest I can without a bunch of extra money and stuff. So I'm pretty cautious about what I put on my planes. Never use wheel pants, (yeah I fly with my pants off) never use a pilot, and I use a small NiMH battery 4.8v all in an effort to keep things light. One thing I don't skimp on is servos. I use metal gear, high torque in everything. This is a spot not worth the chance to go light. Might induce flutter or worse?!?!?! Anyways, one or two onuces is important to me. So the weight calculations are critcal. I like to see the UCD around 5.5 lbs and it is clearly able to meet that with just a little bit of thought.
Of course all that goes out the window if you're gonna run a HUGE engine like some of the guys (gjeffers)
Flew the Typhoon again today. That thing is depressing. I think I'm done with it and I'll just wait until I can just "do it".
Thanks
Bud

Rob and CofG... Thanks
))).... But after only flying my trainees trainer for
a while.... What a blast!!! Bummer it was so short... But it'll be back up in
the AM.....
Stamps....Sh_t.. I can see (not really) why some people go haywire......
They take you insur. money up front..... They "KNOW" it's their fault.... But
sorry Sir it'll take the better part 1 to 2 months, but could be as much as three....
F#&* Y^*
I did ask again... What's the chance of getting that wing back, for me waiting
SSSoooooooooooooooooooooooo Long... Fat chance... We destroy them after
payment

Gieffers,
I don't hate anybody as a policy, but with 116 inches of snow here--and clouds and wind and cold--you're picture is making me rethink my position.
And save one of those brews for me. I just may pull up my starting table and head your way.
Jack

Raideron,
My Katana V2 came in today. It's half done. Did yours come without a construction manual? Mine did, but I already HAD a manual downloaded from on-line months ago and printed it up. It sure as heck better be everything they, and you, say it is. Both my beloved Twist and Do .46 are cheaper--and appear to have a great deal more labor invested in the making of the ARF. Are OMP ARF Katanas produced in the US? I think not. So OMP's making a bundle on this bird.
So what went wrong in your construction of the Katana to get the fuel tank to fall off? Did you put the plastic strips in backwards (so they didn't catch) or what? I need to know. I'll finish the Katana in the morning. I have a .45 SuperTigre that needs a ride. A new .51 ST is on the way--and will fit the same holes if I need more power.
Fly well.

Hey Jack, Yeah mine had the manual.. They are suppost to have an updated
man. in the Profile OMP fourm here on RCU... I may have missed something,
But I did not see any difference between the two..
The straps were installed correctly with the thinner foam on the fuse side????
Maybe just a bad strap is all I can say?? Had no problems today with the
replacement straps and tank... But I did use velco instead of foam this time
with the straps.. My tank moved slightly from the prop wash. I guess it was
because of the backing on the foan I used.. Anyway it's still there after today
Yeah I think they are making a bit on it.... But if you look at the "name brand"
profiles their prices are the same.... HIGH... I always wanted an EF 540, about
the same price, but they have been out of them for over a year... I ordered this
one, then I see that E.F. has some in &$%#.... I hated to spend that much $$$$$
on a profile, but I like them to play around with and learn and they are a bit
stronger for those "bad low times" It does stay together a bit longer in the "opps
times". I only had one other profile a Kangle SU-31<?> I got NIB for $50 on ebay
But one too many tail touches with it I think
It's fixable.. But it's twice that I
snapped the fuse in just about the same place...
The 51 would be better.. It really likes the YS63

Raid, fortunately I had downloaded the manual long ago, so that didn't hold me up. I just printed a copy.
You: The straps were installed correctly with the thinner foam on the fuse side????

Me: I think, after your experience, I'm gonna put some silicone caulking on the tank to hold it firmly in place.
You: Yeah I think they are making a bit on it.... But if you look at the "name brand"
profiles their prices are the same.... HIGH...
Me: after seeing what they've done and the quality of production, I'm not complaining. And it really is a four hour job to put the V2 together.
You: The 51 would be better.. It really likes the YS63
Me: Well, I crashed my Model Tech Extra, damn. Ran into a telephone pole (stupid) and did HER in, but I needed the receiver anyway--and the well run in .45 SuperTigre--which I trust--and which has impressed me with a 12.25 x 3.75 prop, perfect for the Katana, I'm thinking. I'll start with that, anyway. The new ST .51 won't be in until next week, but the footprint is the same--and the weight is ALMOST the same, so I can change it out if I wish.
The bird'll be ready to go tomorrow. I took time building my own extensions for the rear servos, goofed them up, and had to solder them again--not enough length for where the receiver has to go.
My Can Do didn't even see air today. I spent all the time with the rebuilt Twist, with a ST .45 on it. Love that bird--but with the V2 looking as IT does, that old Twist lady may have some competition for my flying passions. We'll see.
Fly well.
Jack

Hey Rob... I like yours:-)... Did you strenghten the fuse??.. I was going to take the
stripes off, the green came off easy but the the white was stubburn and I had blue
So..... Guess your tail wheel is the same as the V2... A bit soft... I had a carbon
fiber tube so I slit it down the center(almost
) glued and pressed it on the tailwire
it seemed to help it a bit.. Did you ever weigh yours?? They should be lighter than
the V2... Mine came in at about 5# with the mini throttle servo HS85BB, HS 425's
and a HS 635HB on the rudder on 6v.. all stock equip. and a JR charge switch..
Jack... I'm not sure, but since the holes were pre-drilled, they were alittle taller than
the tank and since the stock tank does not lean against the wing along with me useing
packing tape around my tank(YS) and using the "Hitec" receiver pad as my tank foam
all was able to "slip back some" under high throttle.. But I still think it was just a bad
tie... silicone will work, I went with the sticky backed velcro/C.A. Tank won't move now..
4 hours..... Hey quit bragging...I took seven days
)))))))))))
I soldered both my tail wires also... that way I can use just one extension on the rec.
and still have easy excess for the wing removal... But I have yet to take the wing off..
I also re-soldering my battery connection (the 6v that did my "Do" in) and I'm using it...
It had better be good... Or I'll crash:-((
Have a Good Maiden.... I think you'll like it..
Ohhh... The "Do" thread........ Gary started this off the thread with his pic of his un-"Do"
plane:-)
OK, I'm back on track.... I'm starting to strenghten the nose(S-100) and gear area on
my yet... New, Wing-less "Do"... With my Great thinking
I almost started epoxing the
tail feathers... But then caught myself.......... :-0

and a HS 635HB on the rudder on 6v.. all stock equip. and a JR charge switch..
Hey Rob... I like yours:-)... Did you strenghten the fuse??.. I was going to take the
stripes off, the green came off easy but the the white was stubburn and I had blue
So..... Guess your tail wheel is the same as the V2... A bit soft... I had a carbon
fiber tube so I slit it down the center(almost
) glued and pressed it on the tailwireit seemed to help it a bit.. Did you ever weigh yours?? They should be lighter than

The new version has got to be heavier than the first but all around much better. I'm building an OMP Edge and doing the 2 piece wing conversion. I was going to put my Saito 72 on it but it doesn't look like the throttle will work out. My Do is running really nice lately but I haven't had much chance to get out to fly. Lots of rain here.

Hey Rob.... Your work looks good!!... Just one thing.... Shouldn't the wing tube
be a bit longer??? On the V2, the tube goes one more rib in.. And the ribs are
at least 2 sheets thick... Just thought I ask..
Well, today was good up until.... Darn YS.... A love / hate thing..... Nuff said

Yes, Raid and Rob, it took me more than four hours--with the Katana V2. When I got to putting on the control horns, those small washers and nuts slowed me down some. Then, not noticing a difference between the left and right forward landing gear, I mounted them backward--AFTER I CAed them. My manual, from off line, does NOT mention the difference and I wasn't looking for it. Weird. I also REmounted the throttle servo, putting the mount UNDER the mounting brackets, so it would line up more accurately with the carb arm.
Funny, the pictures show Hangar 9 type control horns, but the model came with black, triangular feet, with tall threaded arms, useless for large throws--unless you turn them down to less than an eighth inch between the foot and the connector. I got her trimmed out though and ready to fly, but the weather was windy and snowy, low visibility, so I put off the maiden until tomorrow--I hope.
I didn't put skiis on the V2, thinking that I can take it off the road and plop it down in snow if I have to. I have a suspicion that bird will land at less than a mile an hour in any kind of wind. With that long wing chord, she ought to float easily. Am I right?
I can't believe the throws on the V2. I suspect it's the best bird to compete with the Twist I have. The Can Dos can become hangar queens, if that's so.
I'll let you know.
Fly well.

Your killing us with those great pics.
Our only comfort is in knowing how hot it will get there in a few months.
All these profile planes. Traitors. They may fly good, but boy are they ugly. (Katana 70 in my basement). Shoo! Barry won't come back if he finds out. [sm=sunsmiley.gif]
UCD sitting in garage collecting dust. (Pretty Plane). Come on warmer weather.

dougwill...It's my opinion that profiles will come and porfiles will go but a UCD last in your heart forever. I don't think I would ever buy one, no matter how good (or not) they fly. They just don't look "right" to me.
Now, a UCD46...that looks right from any angle and certainly does anything 3D.
Or so I've heard.
And yes gjeffers, you are killing us with those pictures. Man, that looks so good. Snowing here and getting deeper. But at least I get to shovel my walk.
Thanks

Hey guys....I figure I've got about 58 days to my flying season. Then we'll be up to high 40 in PM and that's flyable. Well, if it wasn't for the wind. Really want to fly the "do". It is my favorite.
Thanks
Bud

We're waiting for it to quit raining here. [>:] It's been a long time since there was a nice day to fly. I'm getting all my indoor work done though and some plane work done too. I still have a Funtana 40 and a Mayhem to build so either way I'll get some "plane fun" in. [8D]
