Barry... The member that has the F90/x100.. He had the new GP 25%?? Yak and had a
moki 210 init... It looked like it pulled it around pretty good... But hard to tell, he only
flew it once.. and said not for me and sold it as he does with a lot of his one flight or
lightly crashed planes..... He makes for a lot of great deals.............
But your new 160 may do the trick..........

raideron...I hope you are the beneficiary of some of those good deals he makes. One flight and he sells it. Doesn't seem like you could even get the plane trimmed out well enough to figure out if you liked it or not.
Good luck with your flying.
Thanks

It's late here and I promised my self I'd do SOMETHING on my CAP. So...it's off to the hobby room to trim my spinner to fit the prob. I've got the landing gear done and I'm ready to remount the engine and cut the cowl. Then mount the radio receiver and the batteries.Man, I'm so close but I just can't seem to get motivated to finish this bird.
Thanks

Good Evening Fellas,
I am working on putting the finishing touches of my UCD and realized something tonight. How do I add connect the Glow Starter if the engine is inverted? So I bought a Sullivan Glow Remote at the LHS and I now need to figure out the best place to mount it. Do any of you guys use a remote connector to the glow plug? and if so where is the best place to mount it. I am using the Saito .82 inverted w/ Slimelines Inverted Pitts Muffler.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark.. You could glue a lite ply tab on the firewall and cut out the cowl to fit, or if
you did not use the cowl mounting tab, you could trim/use one of them??
I do not use one on the "Do".... I just use a 3" glow driver and it works fine with
the bigger cowl cut out for the valve covers...

I thought about where to put that on each of my 46 as they were being built. What worked best for me is to mount the remote glow starter right on the top of the firewall on a bracket of some type. Sullivan had a metal one that came with my starter and it lasted a while, but eventually broke. I simply made a bracket out of plywood and attached it to that.
While the hole on the top of the cowl doesnt look necessarily the best, any hole is un sightly. Since I would have to put a hole somewhere, I figured I would just go ahead and put it in the easiest to use spot. Several of the UCD fliers at the club said they should have done that with theirs because it is just so simple to attach the glow starter. It makes you feel like you have an exposed upright engine.

Foreverhero....I don't use a glow remote on my planes. I cut the cowl WAY open on the botton (you'll need the cowl cut anyways for cooling). This allows plenty of room to attach the Glow Stick from underneath. It's a little awkward when you install the Glow Stick but after the engine starts it's easy to reach down and undo it. It's never been a problem but I have had problems with the remotes coming undone, wire breaking etc. Also, it saves weight not to use it.
But, if you must use it, then I would mount the plug in back of the firewall just in front of the canopy and run the wire up to the glow plug. Then you attach the Glow Stick from the side. Clean installation and doesn't look bad. I did it this way on my original UCD60. But on the two after that and on my 5 UCD46 I just cut the cowl WAY open on the bottom.
When you do extended hovering (which you'll want to do with the UCD because it's soooooo much fun) you'll find you will need the extra cooling or the engine will not run properly (ambient temp inside the cowl rises and changes the air/fuel ratio) and you will bog or dead stick. You also lose much of that precious HP when you don't open the cowl up for maximum air flow.
Mine was so bad on the first one that I built, that I could hover for 20-30 seconds and the plane would start running so badly it wouldn't even hold a hover. Could not figure it out. Worked fine at first then would just lose power. I finally just cut the cowl WAY open (basically the whole underneath side is cut away) and the engine problem went away entirely. Now I don't lose any HP at all.
Anyways, you don't really need the remote and it saves a bit of weight.
thanks
Barry

Hey guys, well Ive finished the plane and the CG is right at 5" so I am good there but the onw thing I have an issue with is that the lateral balance is pretty bad. I moved everything over as far as possible but it still needs about oz on the Right wing tip to be perfectly balanced. Any suggestions. I really hate to add weight [:'(]or cut covering to put in wieght.[:'(] But it will never do good hovering or tracking with it that bad, so I have to do somthing.[

Thank you,
Need all the info possible

OOOPS I DID IT AGAIN.
I broke it in half. I thought I should try a rolling harrier, duh. Was trying it a few mistakes high and thought it would be easier if I could see the plane better, DUH. So I brought it down low, DUH. Spun right into the ground. My repaird around the turtle deck we so good it split further up around the wing, I may be able to fix it, but this one might be too much to bother.
I was thinking about getting a new plane for my Magnum 91. Right now my choices are...
Another UCD 46 of Course!
or
a New Twist 60
People seem to like the Twist 40, and it sounds like Twist 60 is almost completely built for you. I need to get a good 3der back up in the sky quick. I am asking a biased bunch here, but what do you guys think. WIll the Mag 91 pull the Twist 60 well enough, or should I get another UCD, i will have plenty of spare parts if I do.

sctcrash...Sorry about your opps. Ya never know...might even happen to me someday.
I had a Twist 40. I like the UCD46 better. So I sold it. Both were powered by the Saito 82. I just felt the UCD was easier to hover and was more precise than the Twist (not that the UCD is that precise)
The Twist 60 looks interesting to me and I may very well get one. But....I never see myself without a UCD. So, in answer to your question...Get a new UCD.
Thanks

Update -- Well the Slimeline Inverted Muffler finally got here and my new servo longer servo arms are in so I may be able to get this thing in the air on Sunday. Well, maybe just break it in but we'll see. I wrapped the receiver last night and will be drilling the hole for the throttle linkage tonight now that I have the new muffler.
BTW, the LHS was out of the Cool Power Heli 30% fuel and Omega 15%, it should be in stock in another week or so. My question is that I have plenty of the Hobbytown 2-stroke 15% fuel... is it possible to use this to break in the new Saito? or should I wait until I get the correct fuel?
Also, does anyone have any experience with a Slimeline muffler?
Thanks,
Mark

I would use the recomended Fuel by Saito for break in. I think its especially important to have the right amount of Oil. I am by no means an engine expert and am still on my first 4 stroke, but I think that half the engine problems people have are because they didnt break in the engine correctly.
I have to get a new UCD or fix mine so my membership to the thread doesnt get revoked.
Also I saw the posts about the glow plug starter, i just cut a big U out of the bottom of the cowl so there is nothing down there. Makes it easy to get to the glow plug, look up at the engine when I need too, gives more cooling, and goes on pretty easy that way.

I agree with sctcrash...use the regular Saito fuel for break in and running. Tell you LHS to get in gear and get the stuff you need.Also...all the mods to the cowl save weight. Just another benefit to not using the remote glow starter.
thanks

sctcrash...Oh...we don't usually revoke your membership if you've lost a UCD. We give you 60-90 days grace. But, my experience is you'll miss your UCD and want another.
thanks

Hey Hero, a friend of mine lives in Erie, actually may move back to your neighborhood sometime in the next year. Anyway he said Hobbytown in Longmont usually has 30%. He said if not there, Phils RC playground in Boulder, he said to call them cause they usually have a good price on it. Also said RC Hobbies in North Glen.
I was out flying at the Club over behind IBM this past December, I used to work in the big IBM complex, hmm, like 8 years ago.

Duh, guess I shoudl read your post, it says you have plenty of HobbyTown 15%, probably where you got it then, Sorry, hope the other places help.
Thanks Barry, glad I can stick around. I am trying to decide how to proceed. I can buy a new fuse, but I would want a new tail section too, starts to get where I might as well buy a while ARF or I can try and repair the one I got and save my money for an Engine for my SHowtime that is collecting dust.

sctcrash...What engine you thinking for the Showtime? That new Saito 125 would do the trick. Or the mighty 110. Or Saito 150. That might even be better. Or Saito 180, better yet. I wouldn't go with the 82. Or the 72, or the YS 63. Nor would I go gas. Or diesel.
Just my thoughts.
However, that's a very nice flying plane. The Showtime.
Thanks

to tell ya what my mind is on while im out there trucking down the I-15 through Utah......... i found the flying field in Ogden out on the road (exit 344 Barry) about 10 miles off the freeway towards the great salt lake, has two fields, one on the end of a small salt flat and on the other end was a high dollar blacktop strip for the high end meets, pretty nice, havent had time to stop and that really hurts

just wanted to say hi and im still here (till sunday morn anyways)
cant wait to fly in the morning

Hey sctcrash,
It's a small world as I got my start in IT with IBM and worked at that facility for nearly two years but that was 10 years ago this month. Sheesh ... times flies when you’re having fun. I was part of an infrastructure team that was responsible for building and consolidating the Lucent Help Desk there in building 22. I was the grunt and the rest of the 10-man team was made up of all senior managers, directors and a couple of VP’s. It was sort of like being a Private in a room full of Generals…
but they sure taught me a lot and I ended up following them down to another company where I took over both desktop and server support. Now I manage multiple sites in four countries for my current company and actually have staff that do for me what I did for the guys at IBM. I’ll tell you its weird being in this position at only 35…. never thought I’d be a manger of anybody. ïŠ
Oh well, I belong to the Boulder Aeromodeling Society and that’s our little airfield there behind IBM, the one just north of the reservoir. If you move back to this neck of the woods you’ll have to come out and fly. As for the fuel situation, I was able to both the Cool Power and Omega @ Hobbytown and I’ll try and mix them up tonight. Seems they got their truck in today and were able to restock the shelves, so my fuel problem has been resolved.
It’s a 1:1 mix ratio right Blisster?
Thanks Again,
Mark

gjeffers...Welcome home friend. Hope your flying is good tomorrow. Don't go too low at first. Wait until your second flight and then get down there.

Foreverhero...Glad your fuel is resolved. You're mixing? That works pretty good. But I usually go 1.001/.999. Just keeps the mix a little cleaner.
Thanks
