Hey Firemedic, Glad to have you onboard. I have a 9 Cap Futaba and I know it's not JR but with it I have the extra elevator servo on channel 7. I amagine yours can be set up similar. BTW, I was born in Anchorage.......[X(]

AKFireMedic... I do the same as Barry on sealing the hinges.... Here's a pic hope
you can see it ok.... Or close to the same... I iron on either side first, then I quickly
wipe a lightly damp paper towel down the lenght of the slot(for me helps hole the
folded hinge cover inplace, then I do the same side hinge sides, I stick the tip of the
iron( not sure of the temp, but I test a scrap first) as far in as it'll go, but I do it quickly..
Then the other hinge side and then the other end... It's been working great so far..
I have been just using the cheap Tower clear.. Only because I won a roll in a raffle
but it has held up great... The hinge seal that's up a bit by the hinge... Well[:@] thats
a re-do, because of a re-shrink and also going over the hinge see... a no no
Ohh if you ever need to re-shrink you covering... stay away
from the hinge seal.. It tends to destroy the fit..... Don't ask[8D]
A great morning the "Do" did well, made another hole in the wing tip though.. Man with
all the holes I putting init, I should have waited instead of cutting holes to check on
my Vibration
.... Guess that's what happens when you try to sqeeze another flight
in when you know the wind is coming up and you forget to put the pressure line back
in before taking off[:@]... Yep, I just lifted off rolled her as I normally do and the
engine went sour.. so I bank back up the runway, but it was just a bit too fast into the
wind(not really).. So I come up with the bright idea... yeah.. I can bank again going with
the wind which was up pretty good... well she made the turn but, "with the tail wind-
deadstick-little speed" means the plane wants down even for a great floater...
But it still came out pretty good

Makes sense. It can't be that hard so I'm sure I figure it out once I get started on it. What part number sulivan tail wheel are you all using? I piced the s860 as the most likely choice but I wasn't sure. Also, are most of you using the Du-Bro Long control arms for your servos? And finally, is anyone at or near sea level running a 15x4 on the Saito 82 and if so, is the main gear long enough to clear the prop? Thanks again.

I almost forgot to ask. What style 6v pack are you guys using?? I was thinking about using a 5 cell 2/3a flat pack like this one to save weight but I would go with a full size 5 cell AA pack if it will fit better somewhere.

Yes, I use the Dubro long arms... They work great. A little spendy but work great.
For the prop. I fly at about 200 ft and use the 14x4w prop on the 82 and use a 15x4 on my 91.

Hey!! Good news! [8D] Our club is re-opening on Sunday! It was shut down 3 months ago after a flyer got into a confrontation with an ajacent land owner. We managed to get the state park to allow us to become an AMA club so now it's just a matter of days. Yippie! [X(] I think the forecast is for rain though....[>:]

Good news about the flying field! I got all of the odds and ends ordered for the DODO this evening, should all be here shortly and maybe I can get started on the build before I have to go to Vegas the first part of November. I have to say..Tower Hobbies ROCKS!! Holy cow, after I filled up the cart, joined the savings club at half price, used a $20 coupon, got 3 free magazines, and got free shipping to ALASKA!! I was about in heaven. We have a LHS here that orders from Tower and they give discounts to club members at Tower + 10% prices which is usually a pretty decent deal since shipping is so costly here it just about works out. But if Tower is going to have awesome deals like this then I'll just order my stuff from the comfort of my warm bed when I need parts. Plus....I can be naked when I'm ordering[X(] oops, wrong forum. Anyway have a good one, I got some stick time today with my Pulse and I'll get some more tomorrow. Happy flying and thanks for the warm welcome to the thread!

The first one is is probably for Gary since I know he flies JR stuff. How did you reverse your other Elevator servo? Did you buy a reversed one, reverse it yourself, mix it with the radio, or use a reversing Y
sorry it took me so long to get back to the house but ive been in Vegas also(or was that in Ogden) or inbetween?
but any ways this is the reversing "Y" i use.... (this is a very good site also
) check around it[8D]

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to try to reverse one of the servos myself. It is apparently pretty easy once you take the servo apart from what I have read. If it looks like a pain I'll just use the reversing Y. I got the flight pac and the last of my odds and ends ordered today. Man...this plane is eating my alive in odds and ends. A $35 spinner setup?? Ouch. Oh well...pay to play I guess and I imagine that the extras should outlive the plane by some time so hopefully it'll be worth it. Oh, while I'm ranting, why is a 14x4w $12 when a 13x6 is only $4??? It's 4 stroke prejudice I say!!

Someone was asking about how to mount the cowl better. I can't seem to find the post. Maybe not even this thread, but it's good info anyways.http://www.pspmfg.com/CowlBinders.html
Thanks

AKFireMedic...Here's my answer to the $35 spinner. I use them on all my smaller planes. I kinda like the way they look.

Yeah, I know that's an option but on planes with cowls I really prefer the smooth look of the correct sized spinner. I actually would prefer a white one on the DODO but I I wasn't going to pay Tru-Turn any more for the anodized version even if they did make it in white![&:] I have never had a nice aluminum spinner before and I just scarred up my fancy white one on the Pulse today with the starter so maybe I'll grow to like the $35 spinners!

one thing about tru turn spinners AK is that they last forever......well maybe not forever-forever but i still have all 5 i have bought and two of them have bit the dirt pretty hard

I spent the bucks and bought a Tru Turn for my Funtana. They sure look sweet. I'm glad I bought it.
Here's some alternatives...... [link=http://www.cermark.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=C&Category_Cod e=SRS]Cermark spinners[/link] I've heard the Cermark spinners are nice and at a good price.... Or this one......[link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBMY0&P=7]great planes spinner[/link] Since it has an aluminum back plate it's a little easier to carve it up some to get the wide blade props to fit.

I am new to 3D flying and wanted to know if this is a good plane to learn with. I mainly fly an Ultra Stick 60 and am pretty comfortable with it. What do you think? Any bad habits?
Thanks,
Alan

the only bad habits this plane has is if you lose it youll buy another
this is a great plane to start with, great fun plane and will do most 3D well, some manuevers are a little difficult like harriers and knife takes a little practice, but hovering, inverted flatspins, knifeedge spins, and landing are fairly easy, with a little beefing of the landing gear this plane is a great 3D starter
and this is the best support thread on rcu, everyone here is more than willing to help!!
good luck and welcome!

I second or third that opinion...Man you got to get in line to praise this plane. I love all of mine...well except the Giant. And I think I'd like it if I could get enough power on it. I really haven't flown it enough. It's on the back burner, maybe even off the stove, for now.
But the 46 and 60 are my favorite planes. I'm back and forth but I think my favorite is the 60 with the mighty 110. That is an awesome combo, but the 46 with the 82 is stunning. Both will do a rising flat spin and there are few planes that will do that. Few. The flat spins, the waterfalls, the hovering, the rolling circles, are among the best of any planes I've flown. The weaknesses are the KE and the Harriers.
But, I think the fun factor of these planes and the ability to land like a feather and the ease with which they fly make them some of the best choices out there.
And like gjeffers (I think I got the name right that time) said, you'll always want to buy another.
THanks
Barry

Oh...Also like gjeffers said...This is the best support forum you can find. I think there is better support here than anywhere. We even tolerate discussion on other planes and support them as we are able.
Thanks

Double Ditto on the above
...
Great Morning... Only got one flt. on the "Do"... and it was fun.... The rest was on the
S.T. Still need to do something on the tailwheel bracket... But it's working....
Had one problem at the field... To bad... But the only X100 may be history
First
time he tried his SFG's, but his slow flight did it in, it snapped after doing a low K.E.
pass down the runway, he started to bank back up the field, then it started and never
recovered....[:@]... He said he likes the F90 better.....

Finally ready to maiden the UCD. It's been about 6 or 8 months since I took it out of the box. Just ran 4 tanks thru her and it is starting to sound good. I will run another tank at the field before flying and then go easy and rich for a few more in flight.
I've been slowly building the Do forever. I put a 35" 3D Dragon together last weekend and have flown it 6 times. This morning was so fun with that little plane it got me motivated to get the Do going. Now I just have to get through a week of work before flying on Friday.
