I use a Saito 82 with a APC 14x4W prop and 30% heli. It's a GREAT combination. My most fun to fly plane. It must be....I'm on my fourth one. Thanks,
Barry

Raideron, Thanks for the info about KE coupling. I'll have to set up my radio some more. Also thanks for asking about flat spins. I was just trying some tonight (inverted) and couldn't get the nose up. It seemed to be spinning faster than I wanted it too as well. On the product review videos it seems to be spinning slower. Gotta work on that. I also have a Saito 82 with an APC 14x4 W prop. Thanks again.

DPRC, I was reading back in this thread and I think I read something about you using a lot of expo on your controls. That normally is a pretty good thing. But you can overdo it. Especially when trying to hover. I use about 10% when practicing hovering. Anything more than that tends to hurt you when you hover. I couldn't hover much until I reduced the expo. In all other things I use 30-50% expo. Just not so much when trying to hover. Try it, I think you'll agree. Thanks,
Barry

Thanks Barry.... I'll give that a try...
On the.. inverted flat spin landing, When do you flip it over? Do you just flat
spin over the runway, then roll it and land.... I thought it was a joke :-0
Maybe I shouldn't ask... Because if your tip above works for me, I'll be
trying the invert. flat spin landing.. Except I'll forget to flip it over:-( and I
know that can't be too good...

Hey Barry.. Well I tried it but I need more work on the sticks,
It almost goes into the spin, But then rolls out... But I'll get it!!
Anyway I started working on rolling harriers and got a little
fustrated so I just started doing snaps upright and inverted,
while doing the inverted snap, I kept holding it and it started
spinning to the ground, I looked at my tranny because I was
going to transition into a K.E..... and to put my finger on the
switch, then I looked at the plane and it was in an inverted flat
spin:-))))))))))) It looked really nice and flat... I held it to about
20' and pulled out... Yahooo.... But you know I could not do it
again without it rolling out... So I know it's just me... I was going
to practice longer... But was in a RUSH to get home.... A big box
should be here today:-))))))))))... Thanks for the info Barry!!

CeeGee, Yes, I use full throttle to start the flat spin. I then reduce the throttle after it has transitioned to flat. How much depends on the plane and set up and wind conditions. If you leave it full throttle and you do everything just right the plane will actually go vertical in an upside down flat spin. Now that is really cool. Raiderron, Good on ya!!! These UCDs will really flat spin if you do it right. Based on your comments of "almost go into flat spin but rolls out" I think you are still using to much aileron. Make sure you are on low rates with the ailerons. You don't need as much aileron as you think you do to do flat spins. You may even need to reduce your low rate a little. Also you may need to trasition to right aileron a little quicker if it continues to roll out. Once you do it the first time it becomes very easy. It's just getting a feel for the airplane.
Thanks,
Barry

Thanks Barry! You're Awesome!! I'll try that out. Mine have been inverted and spins but definately ain't flat. Hey, maybe I have been developing a new spin. The inverted spazztic spin! Will the wonders of 3D ever end?

Raideron, Sorry for all the posts, but I just thought of something else. After the plane transitions to flat you have to reduce the rudder a little bit to. So...sticks to the inner corners, as it starts to transition you slide the aileron stick to the right. This is a slow slide not a quick move. Generally I move it to about center, maybe a little more. Then you watch the airplane and it should be pretty flat. Then you reduce the throttle a little bit and maybe reduce the right rudder to about 3/4 (depends on expo) At that point the plane should be virtually stopped in mid air or SLOWLY decending. It will spin like a pinwheel. This spin is pretty fast and spins around the canopy. It just sorta sits there. Gives you time to chat with your neighbor or look at the pits etc. If you really get on the throttle and have the plane perfectly flat she'll even begin to rise. It's the most fun move I do, well except for "knife edge coupling".Thanks,
Barry

OOOHHHHHHH..... That's what I originally that it meant... That's why I made that
comment.... Then your post about getting good at it, Kinda threw me... Sure
glad I didn't try it on my one and only invert flat spin.... But I still think I could do
it :-0... Let me get the spin down, then I'll see what I can do
As they club
members told me again today.... " You know all planes are numbered... You just
don't know what number you have till it happens...... But.... You See...... At the
very start I did request for all my planes, number 9000000000000000000000000

And I was told no problem:-)))))

Just got back from flying. Begining to hover better, but my inverted flat spins look like I'm trying to fly into the ground. Tried this morning to Mix some elv. into the rudder for Knife edge. Messed it up, took forever to get back to being able to fly. I think I need a crash course on the JR 6102. I did get to Name the plane on my radio. Not much, but it's a good step. I've only been flying since Nov. so I have a lot to learn. Thanks for all of your help.

hey raideron, you can also enter a flat spin by doing a blender. i was amazed when i first tried it on my 60 size, so heres how to enter if your willing to try.
1. first go highhh
2. enter a straight downline and give high rates left ail to start spinning fast with the engine at idle (made sure you have a good idle to prevent deadstick).
3. then give full right rudder and full down elevator at the same time.
4. now start moving ail slowly right leaving all other controls at there same position(this will flaten it out a little more but dont go to far or it will flop out)
5.now if this isnt flat enough then add engine till it does.( you need alot of elevator to make it real flat)
6. let me know if it works because it works great with mine and it is impressive!
good luck

CeeGee, No I start from normal. I put throttle on idle and slowly pull full up elevator until it stalls or nearly stalls and at the moment the front end drops is when I go to the inner corners with the sticks and then do as described above.gjeffers is doing it exactly like I do only he's beginning with a dive spin to create speed without using the throttle. I do it that way too sometimes, but you lose alitude FAST so you have to be careful and make sure you get the flat spin going soon enough. This way is a "Blender" which is a cool looking move. The UCD do this stuff great.
Thanks,
Barry

I'll be working on it gjeffers.... What you do get another UCD??? I thought
you did that invert flat spin landing thing
Thanks... But I may have to
try on Sun.... No truck came today:-(
Your way is how I have been trying it... Guess I'm giving to much oppsite
Ail... And the ground comes up quick... A few days ago I was trying it, but
nada.. So I kept at it to about 15' of so then I stopped the spining to pull
out... Then I had a Brain fart... and was wondering why the plane was not
moving, and it started stalling... Then I remembered... Oh Throttle:-)

i did more of a 10 ft stall turn Ron at takeoff when the engine died because i screwed up the idle screw by mistake and ended up with a flat landing that broke the fuse in half and cracked the wing up pretty good but i have it all rebuilt and recovered now and it actually looks better than it did and flys great. my first real rebuilding test was successful. im on your guys thread because im doing some reading on the 46 because my son just ordered one and he hasnt a computer yet and he is gonna bring it from vegas on the 19th and im gonna help him build it. so if you guys have any quick tips it would be appriciated.later!

Had a great time flyng the u can do today. I tried to do a loop today but did not enter with enough speed and it stalled at the top of the loop. Just let fall out of the loop and it looked kinda cool. I did get in about 7 flight with it today. I think that I am ready to start increasing the throws alittle bit at a time. It should be a lot of fun. With all of the help in this fourm, I think that I might try the flat spin. I did it once on accident and it scared the bejeezus out of me. Next time I will mean to do it.

I have a question about the stock push rods on the tail of the u can do. Has any one else had problems with them bending? They don't bend much, but enough that I think that I will up grade them to the carbon fiber or the 4-40 size. My next project is going to be a Great planes Super Chipmunk!
